Chapter 1076 Elijah Lived Across from His House
"No need, if you explain, it'll just make things messier," Samantha said.
Alfred shot back, "So what now? Just let him think whatever?"
Samantha replied, "I'll set him straight."
'Is Samantha really gonna lower herself to explain to Wesley? He doesn't trust her and is so full of himself. What's there to explain?' Alfred wanted to tell her not to go, but he bit his tongue.
He knew Samantha too well; once she made up her mind, there was no stopping her. Might as well let it play out.
Wesley was so not right for Samantha. If he’s doubting her because of Alfred today, he'll find another reason tomorrow. Alfred decided to wait it out.
Alfred said, "Alright, I'm outta here."
"Okay." Samantha barely glanced at him. After Alfred left, she called Wesley.
Wesley hung up on her.
Samantha frowned and shot Wesley a text: [Wesley, let me explain. Last night, my power went out. I was freaked, so I asked Alfred to come fix it.
He was supposed to leave right after, but he was worried I wouldn't sleep, so he stayed until I crashed.
I thought he left ages ago, but he accidentally fell asleep till morning. Alfred and I are just friends.]
Wesley stormed into his apartment building, still fuming. Reading Samantha's message, he felt even worse.
'Why is the girl I like so chill about this?' He was shocked at his own realization.
Wesley pictured Samantha's bright smile. His gut told him she wasn't that kind of girl. Maybe he was overreacting.
He thought, 'Maybe, like Samantha said, she and Alfred are just friends. But seriously, I'm her boyfriend. Why didn't she call me first when stuff went down?'
Wesley looked pissed as he walked into his place. Elijah followed, looking smug. She hadn't expected to see what she just saw.
Seeing Wesley's sour face, Elijah tried to comfort him, "Wesley, don't be mad. You guys just started, so if you break up now, it won't hurt too much."
Wesley snapped, "Who said I wanna break up with her?"
Elijah said, "Wesley, you saw them alone in a room together. You still wanna be with Samantha? You wanna get cheated on?"
Wesley's face darkened. "What crap are you talking about? Samantha already explained. She and Alfred are just friends. Last night, her power went out, and Alfred was just helping her fix it."
Elijah sneered, "Wesley, you really buy that? Are you that naive? You're a guy too. If you were alone with a girl, would you really just fix the power and leave?"
Elijah hinted, and Wesley's mind flashed with some steamy images. His chest heaved, and his face got even darker. "Elijah, I'm warning you, stop talking crap in front of Samantha. That time I drank too much and lost control. If you bring it up, I won't forgive you."
Seeing Wesley's cold expression, Elijah felt a pang in her heart. "Wesley, I know I'm not good enough for you. Don't worry, I won't talk crap in front of Samantha."
Wesley said, "Get out." Elijah turned and left, her hand gently touching her lower abdomen, her fingers clenching. She knew she wasn't good enough for Wesley, but she had to fight for herself and the child in her womb.
Samantha felt uneasy as Wesley continued to ghost her. She hated unresolved drama. She'd already explained everything, so he should at least respond.
Even though Samantha didn't think she was in the wrong, she got why Wesley was upset. But still, he shouldn't just go radio silent. She wondered if Wesley was planning to break up with her.
Samantha paced around, deciding to call Wesley again. This time, his phone was off.
'Why's it off? Does he have work?' She quickly checked Wesley's schedule in the fan group. He had no plans this morning.
'Maybe his phone's dead? Or he's just sleeping?' Samantha tossed her phone aside and sat on the couch, lost in thought.
The silence in the house was suffocating. She wasn't one to sit around and wait. She needed to talk to Wesley face-to-face.
Thinking of Wesley's place at River View Estate, Samantha changed into casual clothes and headed over.
Wesley's apartment wasn't far. Samantha soon arrived at his door. Taking a deep breath, she rang the doorbell. No answer.
Instead, the door across the hall opened.
Elijah said, "Samantha."
"Elijah, you live across the hall?" Samantha was a bit surprised.
"Yeah, to take care of Wesley, I rented the apartment across from him," Elijah said.
"Oh, is Wesley home?" Samantha asked.
"Yeah, he should be sleeping."
'So Wesley's sleeping. No wonder his phone's off.' Samantha knew Wesley's work schedule and felt less annoyed about him not replying.
"Samantha, wanna come in and wait for him to wake up?" Elijah asked.
Samantha replied, "Sure, but his door's locked. How do I get in?"
"I'll open it." Elijah unlocked the door with her fingerprint, "Come on in."
Samantha was stunned. She didn't expect Elijah to have access to Wesley's place. But then she thought, 'Elijah is Wesley's assistant, so it makes sense.'
Samantha didn't think much and followed Elijah inside.
The apartment had a three-bedroom, two-living-room layout, similar to Samantha's place. The decor was simple yet tasteful, and she casually looked around.
Elijah's eyes flashed, and she deliberately asked, "Samantha, how do you like the decor?"
Samantha nodded. "It's pretty nice."
Elijah smiled. "Wesley and I picked out the design style together."
Samantha looked at her, a bit surprised. "You designed it together?"
"Yeah, after Wesley bought the place, we did a lot of research on the decor together and finally decided on this style." Elijah seemed to be casually mentioning it, but it sounded like a gentle complaint. "That period really wore us out."
Hearing this, Samantha smiled lightly and didn't say anything.
Doing decor research together, if Elijah weren't Wesley's assistant, it would seem like something a girlfriend would do.
Samantha knew that a celebrity's assistant was like a nanny, involved in everything related to the celebrity.
