Chapter 552 She Still Cares About Kenneth
Nora stood there, staring blankly at the door where Sandy and Zephyr had disappeared. She felt a pang of sadness.
She knew Sandy's personality well. Sandy might appear gentle, but she was incredibly stubborn. Once she made up her mind, it was hard to change it. Nora realized that her efforts today might be in vain.
She thought, 'Am I really going to watch Sandy stay here and wait for the baby to be born? According to her plan, after she gives birth, I'll come and take the child away, and then the Hamilton family will have no more ties with her. I don't want that at all!'
Nora pursed her lips but didn't leave. Instead, she stood quietly outside until they came out of the room.
Seeing that Nora hadn't left, Sandy was surprised. "Nora, why are you still here?" she asked.
Nora didn't answer directly but looked around, and asked, "Sandy, do you live here?"
Sandy replied, "No, I live in a fisherman's house not far from here."
Nora said, "Since I'm here, at least you should host me before you chase me away."
Sandy smiled, and said, "Then let's go to my place."
Nora replied, "All right."
Nora deliberately moved to Sandy's other side, pushing Zephyr aside. Then she supported Sandy as they walked forward.
Zephyr paused for a moment. Watching their backs, he smiled and followed them slowly.
Nora followed Sandy to a house. Sandy opened the door.
It was just a simple apartment with basic furnishings.
Looking around, Nora frowned. "Sandy, do you live here?" she asked.
Sandy replied, "Yes, an old lady lives here alone. She was kind enough to take me in. She's probably out by the sea collecting fish and shrimp now."
Sandy gestured for Nora to sit down.
Nora sat on a chair and glanced at Zephyr, who had followed them in. She stared at him and asked, "Dr. Wright, do you live here too?"
She trusted Sandy, but she couldn't help asking. After all, Zephyr had always liked Sandy.
Nora thought, 'Would they live together in this remote place? Are they planning to start over?'
"No, I live in the fisherman's house next door," Zephyr replied.
Hearing this, Nora breathed a sigh of relief.
After a moment of silence, she continued, "Dr. Wright, I want to talk to Sandy privately. Could you leave us alone?"
Nora thought, 'This lovesick man seems to be waiting for Sandy to get divorced! How should I handle him?'
Zephyr glanced at Sandy, then nodded, saying, "Go ahead, I'll take a walk by the sea."
After he left, Sandy turned to Nora. "Nora, would you like some juice?" she asked.
"Sandy, I'm not thirsty," Nora replied.
Sandy looked at her and jokingly said, "You said I should host you well. I can't neglect my guest."
Nora was speechless. Sandy went into the kitchen and quickly returned with a glass of juice.
"The place is a bit simple, no coffee. You'll have to settle for juice," Sandy said, handing over the glass.
Nora took a sip and said, "This place is indeed simple, but the people are kind. The environment is beautiful. It reminds me of the small village where I used to live. I suddenly understand why you don't want to leave."
Nora added, "This kind of life without disputes, carefree, is what I've always pursued."
Hearing this, Sandy smiled and asked, "Really?"
Nora nodded, saying, "Yes, so I've decided to stay here with you."
The smile disappeared from Sandy's face. She scolded, "Nora, stop joking. You have several children to take care of."
Nora shrugged and said, "Sandy, ever since I returned to the Hamilton family, there are people helping me take care of them."
Nora continued, "Alex was taken by the Jones family. Billy and the other babies were taken by Adelbert and Jacob. Now I don't even see them."
Hearing this, Sandy couldn't help but laugh. She remarked, "I never thought you were the real Ms. Hamilton."
Nora nodded and replied, "Yes, it's probably destiny."
Sandy nodded in agreement. A trace of sadness flashed in her eyes.
"So, for some things, no matter how much people struggle, it's useless. It's destined."
Just like her identity. No matter how much she fought against fate, it was to no avail. Sandy felt she only brought misfortune to those she loved. She was destined to be alone.
Nora agreed, "You're right. No matter how much people fight against fate, it's useless."
Nora sighed, then said, "So whether Kenneth wakes up is his fate. I don't want to waste my energy treating him anymore. Maybe it's useless."
Hearing this, the smile disappeared from Sandy's face.
Sandy said, perplexed, "Nora, you're joking, right?"
Nora shook her head, and insisted, "I'm not joking. You know, treating him every day is exhausting. He's my brother, not my lover. I'm tired."
Nora added, "If he never wakes up, people might question my medical skills. My reputation could be ruined."
Sandy stared at her, clenching her fists. She said, "Nora, I know you're not like this. You promised me you would cure Kenneth."
Nora looked at her, and replied, "Sandy, when I promised you, you hadn't divorced Kenneth yet. But now that you're divorcing him, I don't need to keep that promise."
Sandy said nothing. She knew Nora was deliberately provoking her, trying to make her anxious. But even so, she felt a bit flustered.
Still, she remained calm.
Sandy stated, "This has nothing to do with me. Kenneth is your brother. As long as you can live with yourself."
Nora smiled and said, "I'm a doctor. I'm used to seeing life and death. So, it's decided."
She looked around. "Sandy, where's your room? I'll sleep with you tonight. Tomorrow, I'll look around and see which fisherman is willing to take me in for a long stay here."
Nora thought, 'She won't go back. Fine! I won't treat Kenneth either. Let's see who has more patience and determination!'
Nora wandered around as if she really planned to stay. Sandy clenched her fists, suppressing the urge to tell her to leave.
She was sure Nora wouldn't really stay. She thought Nora was just pretending.
However, she underestimated Nora's determination. Or perhaps she overestimated her own willpower.
As night fell, the old lady returned to prepare dinner. Nora showed no intention of leaving and chatted happily with the old lady.
Sandy knew Kenneth needed daily treatment. She didn't know if Nora had treated him today. Her mind was in turmoil.
She wanted to ask Nora several times but held back each time.
Though chatting with the old lady, Nora kept an eye on Sandy's expressions. Seeing her restless, Nora felt pleased.
Nora wanted to win this psychological battle with Sandy. She was certain Sandy hadn't given up on Kenneth.
