Chapter 898 Felt Pressured Under her Gaze

Jane paused deliberately.

Zephyr, standing nearby, felt his heart skip a beat. He stared at Jane and grabbed her hand, silently pleading for her help.

"Ms. Harvey, how are you guys doing?" Delilah's voice came through the phone.

A hint of a smile flashed in Jane's eyes. "Actually, we just started dating."

"Oh, I see." Delilah began to sing Zephyr's praises. "Ms. Harvey, Zephyr is a great guy. If you marry him, he'll definitely spoil you."

Jane raised an eyebrow and glanced at Zephyr. "He's indeed a well-behaved man."

"Great, great. Ms. Harvey, when you have time, why don't you and Zephyr come over to my place?" Delilah said happily.

"Sure, I'll have Zephyr bring me over to visit you someday," Jane replied graciously.

"Alright then, I won't disturb you two any longer. I'll hang up now."

"Good night, Delilah."

Jane hung up and looked at Zephyr. Seeing him visibly relieved, she smiled.

"Zephyr, you're not being very manly. You use me when you need me and discard me when you don't?"

Zephyr asked, "When did I ever use you?"

Jane said, "You were the one who wanted to end things with me. So what was that just now?"

Zephyr was at a loss for words. His gaze fell on his hand, still holding Jane's. He quickly let go.

Trying to save face, he said, "You're the one who wanted to stay at my place. I've never had a young woman stay over, so what's wrong with pretending you're my girlfriend?"

Jane raised an eyebrow. "Zephyr, you are being foolish again. If you don't want me to say too much in front of Delilah, you'd better know your role."

"What role?"

"My boyfriend!"

Jane said, "I've already told you, I'll give you six months. During this time, you have plenty of time to consider whether we're suitable. But remember one thing: I am your girlfriend."

Jane's eyes were determined, her tone leaving no room for argument.

Zephyr felt pressured under her gaze. He had no choice but to listen to Jane.

It was frustrating.

"Who's making breakfast tomorrow morning?" Zephyr couldn't help but ask.

Zephyr changed the topic so quickly that Jane was momentarily stunned. Zephyr wanted to slap himself. After being injured a few times, perhaps the anesthesia had affected his nerves, causing fluctuations in his cognitive abilities. Was he showing off his cooking skills by asking such a foolish question?

Zephyr felt annoyed but tried to stay calm. "If you want to be my girlfriend, you need to learn to cook. I'll make breakfast tomorrow, and you can do it next time."

With that, Zephyr hurriedly left. As the door closed with a bang, Jane couldn't help but laugh.

She thought, 'Zephyr is really awkward. It's just cooking, not that hard. I'll learn!'

Jane immediately took out her phone and started watching cooking videos.

Zephyr returned to his bedroom and slapped his mouth. He was so stupid! He even asked Jane to learn to cook. He was really taking himself too seriously.

Zephyr glanced at his hand, and the light in his eyes gradually dimmed. He needed to focus on more important things.

The next day.

Zephyr got up and habitually opened his bedroom door to let in some fresh air. The aroma of food filled the house. Someone was making breakfast!

Zephyr was slightly surprised and looked towards the kitchen.

Jane was busy in the kitchen, still wearing Zephyr's shirt with an apron tied around her waist. A ray of morning sunlight shone through the window, casting a halo around her. It made Zephyr's heart feel warm too.

So it was Jane making breakfast! He had clearly said he would make breakfast today.

"You're awake?" Jane brought the fried eggs into the dining room. "Have you washed up? If so, come and have breakfast."

Zephyr snapped out of it. "I said I would make breakfast today. Why did you do it?"

Jane placed the plate on the table and teased, "I wanted to be your girlfriend early."

Zephyr felt a warm sensation in his heart. He watched Jane bring the rest of the breakfast to the table and said, "Is your cooking edible?"

Jane wasn't annoyed. "I don't know. If it's bad, you'll just have to redo it."

Zephyr glanced at her. "I'll go wash up first."

At home, he usually had milk and a sandwich. But it was nice to have someone else make breakfast for a change. The atmosphere was different. He wondered how good Jane's cooking was. Even if it was bad, he would reluctantly accept it because of her effort.

Zephyr finished washing up and sat at the table. Jane pushed a glass of milk in front of him. "Eat up."

Zephyr nodded and took a bite of the fried egg. Jane watched him and tentatively asked, "How does it taste?"

Zephyr frowned and didn't say anything. His expression told her that it must be bad. Jane frowned too, feeling a bit helpless. She had tried her best, but it seemed she had no talent for cooking.

"Is it too salty again? If it's bad, then..."

"It's not bad," Zephyr suddenly said.

Jane was stunned. She saw the teasing look in Zephyr's eyes and realized. "You're messing with me?"

Zephyr smiled. "Did I say anything?"

"You didn't say anything, but your expression did."

Jane paused and chuckled. "Zephyr, you got me."

Zephyr ate his breakfast slowly. "You can tease me, and I can retaliate.

Jane laughed. "Is the fried egg really good?"

Zephyr swallowed his food and nodded. "It's alright."

Jane said, "You just said it was good, now it's just alright?"

Zephyr took a sip of milk. "Didn't want you to get cocky."

Jane laughed again. "Look at me, working so hard to get your admit. Don't you think I deserve a reward?"

Zephyr handed her a piece of bread. "Good job."

Jane raised an eyebrow. "Thanks."

They exchanged a glance but didn't joke around further. Instead, they quietly ate their breakfast. The aroma of food and a warm atmosphere filled the air.

After eating, Zephyr started to clean up the dishes. Jane said, "Let me do it. Don't worry, I won't break your bowls this time."

Zephyr raised an eyebrow. "Officer Harvey, don't make promises you can't keep."

Jane took the dishes to the kitchen, saying as she walked, "If I break your bowls again, I'll take you home with me and feed you there!"

Zephyr was speechless and thought, 'What does broken bowls have to do with me? Why would breaking a bowl mean she will take me away? Is it because there will be no bowls to eat from? I have plenty of bowls at home!'
