Chapter 340 Am I That Dull?
"It's no big deal. You forget, the Turner family isn't short on heirs." Aaron's expression was cool and distant.
Nora blinked, recalling the effeminate features of that certain individual in the Turner clan.
"So, Jackson has managed to charm the head of the Turner family while you're planning to team up with the younger Turner master?"
That's why Aaron hadn't given the head of the Turner family the time of day. A confrontation between them was inevitable.
"Exactly, as clever as you are," Aaron said, his eyes filled with fondness, almost as if he would kiss her right there.
Nora noticed old Mr. Gordon's looking their way and she quickly straightened up, pulling away from Aaron's grip and subtly sidestepping closer to the crowd.
Aaron raised an eyebrow, about to speak, when a child interrupted the moment by hugging his leg. "Daddy… hug," she said.
Aaron's gaze lowered to meet Samantha's big, dark eyes, and something softened inside him. He bent down and scooped her up in his arms.
"Were you scared just now?" he asked.
Samantha clung to his neck, her voice childishly sweet as she replied, "A little."
Aaron's toned voice soothed her, "Don't worry, Daddy's here."
"Mhm." Samantha tightened her hold on his neck, clearly reliant on him.
"What were you talking about earlier? Who was being mean to whom?" Aaron wasn't entirely sure what had happened and asked for clarification.
"Daddy, let me tell you, my brothers were sooo… impressive..." Samantha began to recount the recent events with vivid enthusiasm.
Nora stood to the side, smiling as she watched the tender moment between father and daughter. She sat down to wait for the math competition to finish.
Right then, a message popped up on her phone. The message was from Evella Remington.
Evella: [Nora, are you free tonight? Let's go see B.Love perform.]
Nora blinked, reading the name and guessing that it must be a band's name.
Truth be told, before having children, she used to enjoy indulging in music to cultivate her senses.
However, since becoming a mother and being preoccupied with work and childcare, she hasn't had the time for such hobbies.
Now that her children were more independent, she realized it was time for her to take care of herself again, and not let herself become a frumpy matron. Nora asked.
Nora: [Evella, is this a band?]
Evella replied to the message enthusiastically.
Evella: [Yeah, yeah, this band has been super popular overseas these past few years. You won't believe how handsome one of the guitar players is. Nora, let's go!]
Nora's lips curved into an amused smile, teasingly.
Nora: [You wouldn't happen to have a crush on this musician, would you?]
Evella: [Aw, Nora, don't expose me like that.]
Nora chuckled softly. No wonder Evella Remington wasn't interested in Howard anymore; she had her heart set elsewhere!
However, it seemed there were still marriage plans being considered by both families. She felt a moment of sympathy for the younger Remington. Nora messaged back.
Nora: [Okay, I'll come out and play tonight.]
Evella: [Yay! It's a plan then! The show starts at 8:30, I'll pick you up at 7:30!]
Nora: [Sounds good.]
Aaron, listening to Samantha chatter away, casually glanced over to see Nora smiling at her phone, his dark eyes narrowing slightly.
He asked, "Who are you chatting with?"
"Evella." Nora replied nonchalantly, "She's invited me to go see that B.Love band performance tonight."
At this, Aaron felt a flicker of interest, "You mean the B.Love band?"
"Yeah. Have you heard of them?" she asked.
"Mm," Aaron hummed in acknowledgement.
A flicker of surprise crossed Nora's eyes. "You've heard of this band? I didn't peg you for keeping up with that sort of thing," she remarked.
Aaron's dark eyes narrowed, "Do I seem that boring to you?"
Nora laughed. "Not at all. Aren't you always busy, though? A man juggling a thousand tasks doesn't usually have time for trivial things such as music," she teased.
Indeed, Aaron didn't have much leisure to follow bands or the like. The only reason he knew about B.Love wasn't out of any personal interest, instead...
"Are you and Evella Remington going to the concert tonight?" Aaron pushed his thoughts aside and asked.
"Mm." Nora nodded, recalling Evella Remington's words, and chuckled, "Evella said one of the guitarists is really handsome. I'm curious to see what her definition of 'handsome' is."
So, were they going to the show under the pretense of checking out guys? A flash of displeasure passed through Aaron's eyes.
"Nora, the kids are rarely in Lindwood City, and you're just going to leave them to their own devices?" he questioned.
Nora blinked, then replied, "They can entertain themselves pretty well."
Aaron laughed softly, "So kids don't need their mother's company anymore?"
That was true. She had already been apart from them for a whole month.
Nora suddenly felt a wave of guilt at his words and said, "Then I guess I won't go."
‘’At least she was compliant!’ he thought. A pleased smirk shaped Aaron's lips.
At that moment, Samantha, who was in his arms, piped up, "Mommy, go on, take me with you. I want to see the show too."
The little girl had a passion for singing and a keen interest in music. Nora glanced at Aaron, feeling hesitant to respond. Suddenly, she realized that she was almost acting like a submissive wife, overly influenced by her husband's opinions.
Aaron suddenly declared, "Let's all go. I'll come with you."
"You're going too?" Nora's surprise was evident.
"Mm." Aaron let out a terse response, "I might as well see for myself just how handsome that guitarist really is."
Watching him, Nora fought back a laugh. ‘He was just like a teenager with a jealous soul! He didn't want her to attend the concert alone. Was he that worried she might fall for someone else?’ she mused.
Nora said, "I'll text Evella to let her know."
"Mm." Aaron seemed completely comfortable, utterly oblivious to any childishness in his actions.
Just then, his phone rang. It was a call from Noe.
Aaron set Samantha down, "Samantha, I need to take this call."
"Okay," Samantha said, obediently.
Aaron stepped outside to take Noe's call. "Speak," he initiated.
"Mr. Gordon, I've found the information you asked me to look up," Noe reported to him. The information was about Hollis.
"Send it to my phone," Aaron replied.
Noe replied, "Okay."
Moments later, Noe sent over the documents. Aaron's expression grew tense as he opened the file. The woman his father abandoned years ago was Hollis. She had been pregnant with his father's child! Tragically, the child had died, and she had been involved in a car accident.
Aaron continued to scroll through the information, his thin lips pursed. So, Hollis was seeking revenge against his father by targeting him? Because her son died, she wanted his father to lose a son as well? What a disaster, and it wasn not even his fault.
Thinking back to the time he had lived under the same roof as Hollis in Lindwood City, a chill ran down his spine. He had walked right into the lion’s den. Why hadn't Hollis taken the opportunity to strike at him?
An idea crossed his mind, and his dark eyes narrowed. That bowl of sweet soup... She must have made her move! But then Quinn interfered in her scheme.
Aaron's handsome face was unreadable as he dialed Quinn's number. He needed to confirm his suspicions.
The call was quickly answered. "Aaron, what's up?" Quinn asked.
"I want to know for certain, did you know about Hollis all along?" Aaron inquired.
