Chapter 427 Accomplishing an Anticipated Event
Archer glanced at her, and remarked, "You really like children, don't you?"
Harper nodded, saying, "Yes, I love children. Children are the purest and most adorable beings in the world. My childhood dream was to be a kindergarten teacher."
Archer looked deeply into her eyes, and said, nonchalantly, "Isn't it simple to like children? Marry me early, and we can have a whole football team."
The sudden statement slightly took aback Harper, her face blushed.
"Archer, if you say that, I will take it as a proposal," she replied.
Archer chuckled lightly and didn't respond. Instead, he said to Aaron and Nora, "Take your time eating; we'll go ahead."
The smile on Harper's face faltered slightly, a faint disappointment hiding within.
Why wouldn't he admit it?
Was it just a casual comment, or did he really plan on marrying her?
Harper naturally had no idea what Archer was thinking at this moment.
As a prestigious CEO, how could he propose to a woman so casually?
Shouldn't he prepare properly?
After the two of them left, Aaron said, "It seems like Archer is dating this young lady."
"Yes," Nora replied.
Nora thought of something, and the smile disappeared from her face.
Aaron, noticing her sudden change in expression, probed, "What's wrong? Are you unhappy?"
Nora fell silent for a moment and asked, "Thomas, you know that Suzy wants to divorce Jackson, right?"
Aaron was taken aback and disagreed, "I didn't know."
He didn't have the time to bother with their private matters, did he?
Nora explained, "I heard from Mrs. Woodhouse that Mrs. Hamilton wants to marry Suzy to the Remington Family's eldest brother. Because the Remington Family's matriarch has always wanted to marry Evella to Howard, Mrs. Hamilton made it clear that if she wants Evella to accept it, the Remington Family's eldest brother must marry Suzy."
Upon hearing this, Aaron narrowed his blue eyes and sarcastically remarked, "Isn't this just like forced marriage? She can really come up with such ideas."
Nora sighed softly and said, "Mrs. Hamilton genuinely cares for Suzy."
There was a hint of envy in her tone.
Aaron glanced at her. " Envious?" he asked.
Nora took a sip of her coffee and remained noncommittal.
She was indeed envious, but she didn't lack love now.
So, it was wistfulness.
"Archer probably won't agree," Aaron said.
Nora hesitated for a moment, and said, "You never know. The Remington Family's eldest brother values loyalty and righteousness. I remember the last time he agreed to marry Suzy; it was because Evella didn't want to marry Howard. That's why he was willing to marry Suzy."
She added, "Although Suzy later caused a scandal and the engagement between the two families was canceled, Mrs. Remington Senior has always had a soft spot for Howard, still believing that he is the right match for Evella. I am just afraid that the eldest brother of the Remington Family will consider Mrs. Remington Senior's feelings and accept her arrangement."
This statement seems reasonable.
Aaron took a sip of coffee, furrowing his brow.
He looked toward the private room where Archer was located, his eyes flickering.
"Nora, what do you think? If the two people in that private room end up together, can Archer avoid taking responsibility for Harper?" Aaron asked.
Upon hearing this, Nora blinked her eyes in surprise and analyzed. "Considering the Remington Family's eldest brother's loyal and sentimental character, he should take responsibility for Harper," she answered.
"Then let them sleep together!" Aaron suggested.
Nora was at a loss for words.
In the private room, Archer ordered several dishes, as well as juice and alcohol.
Harper sat quietly across from him, drinking her coffee.
After ordering the food, Archer received a call from home.
Archer greeted, "Grandma."
"Are you coming home for dinner?" Mrs. Remington Senior inquired.
Archer replied, "I already ate out."
"Well, come home early after dinner. I have something to discuss with you," Mrs. Remington Senior informed.
"Okay," Archer responded and hung up.
Harper asked, "A call from home?"
"Yeah." Archer glanced at her and said, "Wait for a while. I'll arrange for you to meet my family."
He wants to introduce her to his family.
Harper's heart skipped a beat, and she blurted out, "Meet the parents?"
Archer took a sip of coffee and asked, "Don't you want to?"
"Of course I do!" Harper said and quickly shook her head. "I just feel that my background doesn't match yours. Will your family approve?"
Archer raised an eyebrow, picked up the nearby water jug to refill his cup, and casually said, "There's a possibility they won't."
Harper choked a little. Looking at his nonchalant expression, a hint of gloom flashed in her eyes, and then she lowered her eyelids and remained silent.
Archer glanced at her and smiled. "What does silence mean? If my family doesn't approve, don't you plan to fight for it?" he remarked.
Harper raised her eyes and quickly said, "Of course I will fight for it. I'm just worried that my status will hold you back instead of helping you."
Prominent families value matching backgrounds.
As the leader of Remington's Group, his partner must come from a prestigious family to assist him in furthering his career.
Although her family background is decent, it is far from comparable to the Remington Family.
Even though she liked him, she was afraid that she couldn't become his wife.
Archer looked at her, and asked, "Harper, do you really like me?"
This question was quite straightforward.
Harper tucked her hair behind her ear.
"Yeah," Harper said resolutely.
"Is it because I saved you and you feel grateful, so you want to marry me?" Archer asked.
"Of course not," Harper quickly denied. Certainly, you saved me, and I am grateful to you. I did consider marrying you, but that doesn't mean I really want to marry you. There are many ways to repay a life-saving favor, right?"
She was quite eloquent.
A smile flashed in Archer's eyes as he asked again, "What do you like about me?"
Harper blinked and said, "It was love at first sight."
Ever since he saved her at the scene of the accident, his figure had been deeply imprinted in her mind.
"Is that so?" Archer questioned, playing with the coffee in his hand, "Love at first sight is the least reliable."
"Perhaps," Harper nodded and then shifted the topic, "So as I got to know you better, I found myself not only falling in love at first sight but also unable to extricate myself from loving you. Because you are responsible, dependable, and have a strong sense of duty and loyalty, you make me feel secure. You are the man I want to spend my life with."
A loving gaze filled her eyes, with a touch of admiration gracing her delicate features.
Archer sensed the affection radiating from her, causing a stir in his heart.
Having held a prominent position, he had encountered numerous women who feigned interest and were drawn to his power and status.
These women sought to wed him for his influence alone.
Without his Remington's Group leadership role, those who desired to marry him might have scorned him as a mere cripple.
Thus, he remained unmoved by any woman's advances.
In his interactions with Harper, it was her pursuit, her acknowledgment of him as her savior, that prompted him to consider reciprocation.
He had entertained thoughts of marriage in the future, hence the casual meals with her.
Little did he anticipate the depth of her emotions.
Intriguing.
"Am I really that captivating?" he asked.
