Chapter 873 His Face Turned Pale Again
Johnnie froze for a second, then muttered, "Sorry."
Without another word, he scooped Gabriella into his arms.
"Hold the medicine."
Gabriella quickly wrapped one arm around his neck and held the medicine bottle high with the other.
Noticing Johnnie's ears turning red, she raised an eyebrow. "Mr. Perez, you don't have a girlfriend, do you?"
"No."
"No wonder you get shy easily."
Johnnie stayed silent, his ears burning even more.
On the way to the airport, Aaron called Nora.
When he found out Nora had almost had an accident and was now treating Mateo at the estate, his face turned serious.
He rescheduled the earliest flight to Hchilia, feeling anxious and wishing he could be by Nora's side immediately.
After finishing the call, Nora went to check on Mateo.
Mateo no longer had a fever and looked much better than the day before.
Nora sighed in relief. "You need to rest more these days, and you'll recover soon."
Mateo looked at her. "Nora, does a patient's mental state also greatly affect their physical health?"
Nora nodded. "Yes, so you need to stay happy; it will help you recover."
Mateo nodded. "Then don't let anyone else take care of me today. Stay here and chat with me."
Nora raised an eyebrow. "Why?"
"Because only when I'm chatting with you do I feel happy. You don't want me to heal physically but then get depressed, do you?"
Mateo's brown eyes held a hint of expectation. Nora knew he wasn't that fragile but still agreed.
Since she had nothing else to do, she might as well sit down and chat with Mateo.
Although this trouble was caused by Mateo, he had risked his life to save her.
"Alright, what do you want to talk about? Do you want to continue hearing stories about me and my husband?"
Mateo's smile froze, and he stared at her resentfully. "No."
Nora teased, "Why not? You love hearing it from Noe, but not me?"
Mateo looked aggrieved. "Nora, are you trying to upset me and make me depressed?"
Nora laughed. "Then tell me your story. I'll be a good listener."
Mateo sighed. "I don't have any romantic experiences. What story could I tell?"
Nora asked, "Then what do you want to talk about?"
"Just anything."
"Alright, let's chat about anything."
Seeing her rare compliance, Mateo's eyes lit up with a smile.
"Nora, what do you like to do in your free time?"
Nora thought for a moment. "Study pharmacology."
Mateo continued, "What else?"
"Develop medicines."
"And besides that?"
"Treat people."
Mateo was speechless.
"Nora, it's all work. Do you live such a boring life?"
Nora looked innocent. "Yes, I'm very boring."
Mateo stared into her clear eyes and laughed.
"Nora, you're saying this on purpose. I've already said, no matter what you're like, I like you."
Nora glanced at him and covered her mouth to yawn.
Mateo was speechless. "Nora, am I that boring to be with?"
Nora nodded. "Yes, isn't just sitting here boring?"
Mateo said, "Then why don't you use me as a test subject?"
Nora said, "I only study corpses."
Mateo said, "Then kill me!"
Nora rolled her eyes at him and ignored him.
Mateo laughed. "Nora, you said you'd chat with me. Don't go silent."
Nora was almost out of patience. "What do you want me to say?"
"Anything."
"I don't have experience talking about 'anything.'"
Mateo didn't really know what he wanted to talk about; he just wanted to hear her voice and spend more time with her.
"Then find a medical book and read it to me?"
Nora glanced at him. "Do you want to study medicine?"
Mateo raised an eyebrow. "Why not? I could be your student."
Nora didn't bother to respond. Since she had agreed to chat, she went to ask Seraphina for a pharmacology book.
"Should I read it to you?"
"Sure."
Listening to Nora's gentle voice and looking at her delicate face, Mateo's eyes softened.
Their time together was limited, and he wanted to cherish it.
When Aaron arrived, Nora was still in the room reading medical knowledge to Mateo.
Mateo was listening attentively and even asked a few serious medical questions.
Nora, having nothing else to do, patiently answered.
When Aaron pushed the door open, he saw Mateo and Nora huddled together discussing something.
His handsome face darkened, and he called out, "Honey."
Nora's eyes lit up. She tossed the medical book aside and walked towards Aaron.
"Honey, you're here!"
"Yes."
Aaron wrapped his arm around Nora's waist, gazing at her smiling face, and kissed her on the lips.
"Were you scared?"
Nora initially wanted to say it was fine, but the words changed as they came out. "Yes."
Aaron had a protective instinct, and she needed to show some vulnerability and be a little dependent on him.
"Don't worry, I'm here now," Aaron said gently.
"Okay."
Nora smiled sweetly, looking very obedient.
Aaron's eyes softened, and he reached up to smooth her hair, glancing at Mateo out of the corner of his eye.
Seeing Mateo's hand tighten around the book, as if he was about to tear it apart, Aaron's lips curled into a cold, mocking smile.
"Prince Mateo, are you alright?"
Mateo exhaled, his smile a bit forced. "Thanks to Nora, I survived."
Aaron said, "Once you're better, I suggest you go to church and pray."
Mateo was taken aback. "Pray?"
Aaron explained, "Yes, you might be cursed. Everyone around you seems to have bad luck. So you should pray for God's protection."
Mateo was at a loss for words, realizing Aaron was calling him a jinx!
Nora also caught on and couldn't help but smile.
She quickly changed the subject to prevent further conflict between Mateo and Aaron.
"Honey, are you hungry?"
Aaron looked down at Nora. "Yes, I rushed here to see you and didn't have breakfast."
"Then I'll see if we can eat now."
"Okay."
The two of them were about to leave hand in hand.
Suddenly, Mateo said, "Nora, I still want to drink the soup you made."
The soup she made!
Nora felt Aaron's hand tighten around her waist, and she silently cursed Mateo for being troublesome.
Mateo was definitely doing this on purpose!
Nora couldn't help but glance at Aaron, knowing he was upset.
She turned back and glared at Mateo. "No!"
