Chapter 824 Giving You a hand
"That makes sense."
Leonard nodded in agreement and said to Zephyr, "Zephyr, call your girlfriend over right away. We need to meet her and have a chat. If you really want to marry her, we'll help plan things out for her so she can be our tool in the future."
Zephyr knew exactly what they were thinking, and his expression turned even colder.
"No need. My girlfriend is straightforward and doesn't like the collusion between officials and businessmen."
Hearing this, Leonard looked displeased. "Zephyr, you know how the world works. It's all about who you know. Jane should be grateful for the help you're offering."
Zephyr frowned, about to speak, when a voice came from the doorway.
"Sorry, I have no intention of using underhanded means to develop myself."
It was Jane, and Nora was with her.
"Dr. Wright."
Nora smiled slightly at Zephyr.
"Dr. Smith, this is my dad and my brother."
Zephyr politely introduced Leonard and Hubert.
Nora nodded slightly to the two.
She had just overheard their conversation at the door.
Leonard and Hubert seemed very shrewd and opportunistic.
Leonard scrutinized Jane. "You're the police officer, Jane?"
Jane slightly curved her lips. "Hello, sir. I'm Jane."
Leonard said with a stern face, "Ms. Harvey, you must realize that our family values a certain level of achievement. Perhaps with a promotion, you could better align with our expectations."
Hearing this, Jane smiled and glanced at Zephyr.
"Zephyr, did you ask me to be your girlfriend because you plan to use my position to benefit your family?"
"No." Zephyr denied.
Jane nodded. "I thought so. You're not like those other people who are always chasing after wealth and status. I love your genuineness and your kind heart. If you ever changed, it wouldn't be the same between us."
Jane didn't reveal their fake relationship in front of Leonard, which made Zephyr slightly relieved.
He smiled. "I understand. I'll keep a pure heart and always be your Dr. Wright."
Zephyr's eyes were deep, his voice gentle, with a hint of tenderness.
Jane got goosebumps.
So cheesy.
But she didn't show it on her face and cooperated with Zephyr, putting on a sweet act.
Seeing the two of them so affectionate, Leonard was furious.
"Ms. Harvey, you're holding Zephyr back. Listen, if you're just a lowly police officer, I will never agree to Zephyr marrying you. Don't even think about joining the Wright family!"
Jane's eyes were cold. "Sir, you're mistaken. I'm marrying Zephyr, not your family."
Leonard was at a loss, his chest heaving with anger.
Zephyr added, "Dad, I've told you before if you think I'm embarrassing you, you can disown me."
"You!"
Leonard's blood pressure surged, and then he fainted.
"Dad!"
Hubert shouted, glaring at Zephyr. "Zephyr, Dad wants you to honor the family name, and this is how you repay him? Do you know you are driving him crazy?"
Zephyr frowned, said nothing, and quickly walked to the sofa to check on Leonard.
"Dr. Wright, let your dad lie down," Nora said, then took out an injection needle and gave Leonard a treatment.
Soon, Leonard slowly regained consciousness.
"Dad, are you okay?"
Hubert pushed Zephyr aside, asking with concern.
Leonard sat up, clutching his chest and glaring at Zephyr, looking bad.
Nora put away the needle and said, "Uncle Leonard, your children have their own lives. If you want to live longer, you should be more open-minded and stop worrying so much."
Leonard glanced at Zephyr, disappointed.
"Why don't you understand? You're my son. I'm doing it for your own good."
Zephyr's expression was indifferent. "Dad, you heard Dr. Smith. If you want to live longer, just relax."
Then he said to Hubert, "Hubert, please take Dad back to his room."
Hubert said nothing, his gaze sweeping over Jane, a cold glint in his eyes.
This Jane was tough. He'd show her no quarter.!
Hubert helped Leonard out.
The room quieted down.
Zephyr looked at Nora, apologizing, "Sorry, Dr. Smith, for letting you see this."
Nora smiled teasingly. "No, I saw your affection."
Jane quickly reacted and laughed.
She looked at Zephyr. "Zephyr, don't overthink. I just said these to annoy your dad because I didn't like his proposal."
Zephyr looked at her. "Am I overthinking? Are you saying what you just said isn't true?"
Jane said, "Which part?"
Zephyr replied, "You said you like my genuineness and kind heart. Is that false? You don't like men like me and prefer opportunistic ones?"
Jane was speechless, crossed her arms, and scoffed, "Zephyr, you're quite the debater!"
Zephyr smiled slightly. "Thanks for the compliment."
Nora couldn't help but laugh.
Jane and Zephyr together were so amusing!
They seemed like a pair of bickering lovers.
"Dr. Wright, it seems you're doing well today?" Nora asked.
"Pretty well. I can be discharged tomorrow," Zephyr said.
Jane frowned. "No way. The doctor said you need to be observed in the hospital for a few more days."
Zephyr said, "I'm really OK."
Jane was displeased. "Zephyr, you're a patient now. You need to listen to the doctor."
Zephyr stared at her. "Jane, if you want to mock me, find some new material."
Jane replied, "Sorry for my limited vocabulary."
Zephyr was speechless.
Listening to Jane and Zephyr's banter, Nora was amused.
"Dr. Wright, since you're recovering well, I'll leave now. You two continue."
Jane and Zephyr's interaction was so interesting; she didn't want to intrude.
Nora smiled, "I've seen enough fun. I'll leave you two alone to develop your relationship."
Jane was speechless.
Nora left, and the room quieted down again.
Jane looked at Zephyr and thought of Leonard, saying, "Zephyr, you didn't need to have me pretend to be your girlfriend to deceive your dad. Your dad probably wants the best for you, hoping you marry a girl from a prestigious family. It would benefit your status in the Wright family."
