Chapter 321 You Really Don't Like Howard?
Luna Moore, with reddened eyes, took the tissue and murmured a thanks, "Thank you."
As Suzy powdered her nose, she started a seemingly casual conversation.
"Ms. Moore, only helpless women hide away to cry. Aren't you the most cherished little princess of the Moore family, content to let those vixens snatch away your man and shed tears in secret? If it were me, I'd teach those vixens a lesson, and see if they'd dare to charm someone else's man again."
Luna paused in wiping her tears and looked up at Suzy in the mirror.
After finishing her makeup, Suzy gave Luna a sly smile and confidently left.
Luna stayed put, mulling over Suzy's words and the day's humiliations, mostly caused by Nora, which stirred up a storm in her chest.
That's right, it was time to teach Nora a lesson! It was all her fault that she had been mocked by Gary!
Luna left the restroom seething with anger.
When Sandy arrived, she noticed Luna's furious expression and recalled the triumphant sneer on Suzy's face as she left, causing her brow to furrow slightly.
Just outside the banquet hall, Suzy had overheard Luna arguing with Gary. Suzy loved to stir the pot. Had she said something to Luna?
Meanwhile, inside the banquet hall, Nora was chatting with Evella Remington.
Evella patted her cheeks and complained, "Oh, my face is going to freeze from all this smiling."
Nora took a sip of her drink, empathizing deeply.
Today was Evella's big event, and having to greet guests all evening with a smile was indeed exhausting.
"Nora, even though I'm thrilled to have found my family, there's still a bit of trouble," Evella confided to Nora.
Nora handed her a drink and asked, "What's bothering you?"
"I wish the Remington family was just an ordinary family,” she remarked. Evella Remington took a sip of her drink and sighed.
Nora arched an eyebrow. "What's up?"
Evella answered, "You know about my background, right? My mom has a mental illness, my birth father's unknown, a rapist, and to top it all off, the Remington family is like American royalty, so my presence here is pretty awkward."
Evella laughed self-deprecatingly. "Just look at how those socialites glance at me. They smile at my face, but you just know they're tearing me apart behind my back. That's why I can't sincerely make friends here."
She looked down, a bit dejected, and took another swig of her drink.
Nora patted her shoulder. "I get it. When I had my triplets, I faced all sorts of disdainful looks from people around me too.
"Evella, you don't need a ton of friends, just a couple of real ones is enough. All that fake sisterhood in high society isn't worth a dime. You see the news; lots of scandals involving celebrities have their so-called 'friends' behind them, right?"
Hearing this, Evella perked up a bit. "Nora, you are so wise. I wish you could just stay in Lindwood City forever,” she replied.
Nora chuckled playfully, "What, if I leave Lindwood City, I stop being your friend?"
"Of course not! You'll always be my Nora," Evella assured her earnestly.
Nora smiled and then glanced inadvertently at Howard in the distance.
Her eyes sparked with curiosity and asked, "Evella, do you honestly not like Howard?"
If Evella married Howard, she would become another sister-in-law of hers. That would be quite fantastic.
Evella twisted her mouth and replied, "He's too uppity for me. I don't like him."
Howard was uppity, how?
Nora's brows lifted slightly, remembering his somewhat arrogant demeanor toward her. "Does he think he's too good for you?" she asked Evella.
Evella answered, "Yep."
"A typical snob," Nora blurted out.
Evella's eyes lit up, wholeheartedly agreeing. "Exactly, a total snob."
The two shared a smile and clinked their glasses.
At that moment, Harper Long strolled over.
She gave a slight nod to Nora before turning to Evella Remington. "Ms. Remington, I'm Harper Long. Congratulations on finding your family roots."
Evella wasn't too familiar with her but nodded politely, "Hello."
"I heard your older brother Archer Remington is getting engaged to the daughter of the Hamilton family, Suzy Ebenezer, is that right?" Harper asked.
Evella Remington blinked, "Is the news traveling that fast?"
"There are hardly any secrets in high society," Harper Long said with a laugh.
Evella nodded, "Yeah, because I didn't want to get married, and my elders demanded that one of us, either my brother or me, marry into the Hamilton family, so my brother stepped forward, agreeing to a union with the Hamilton family."
Is that so?
Harper's eyes flickered with emotion, "So your brother doesn't fancy Suzy anymore?"
"I guess not, I'm not too sure," Evella stated honestly.
Nora took a sip of her drink, eyeing the gleam in Harper's beautifully made-up eyes, and raised an eyebrow slightly.
Was Ms. Long showing such interest in the Remington family's eldest because she fancied him?
"Ladies and gentlemen, please proceed to the front garden of the estate,"
An announcer took up the microphone and signaled everyone to make their way to the garden in front of the banquet hall.
The banquet was about to begin. A server came over to get Evella ready.
Feeling a bit nervous, Evella took a deep breath, greeted Nora and Harper, and then quickly followed the server away.
Nora and Harper made their way to the garden.
There were many guests that day, and Nora saw Aaron approaching her direction, but then he was entangled by another guest.
Nora curved her lips into a smile and proceeded to the front garden with Harper.
A stage had been temporarily set up in the front garden to facilitate interaction between the announcer and the guests.
"Do you know Mr. Remington?" Nora asked quietly.
Harper nodded, "Sort of. I know him, but he might have forgotten about me."
A spark of interest flashed in Nora's eyes, "Sounds like there's a story there?"
Harper smiled, recalling the past. "Mr. Remington was in a car accident once. It was a pile-up on the freeway. And I happened to be there as well, not just on the scene, but trapped in my car.
"A dozen cars crashed together, and it was on the verge of a potential explosion. Mr. Remington could have left straight away, but after he heard my cries for help, he came back and saved me from my car in the nick of time.
"I had just been rescued when the car exploded. His leg was cut by shrapnel from the blast, which is why he walks with a bit of a limp now. But he shielded me, keeping me safe without a scratch," explained Harper Long, which made Nora's heart race.
The idea of the accident and Remington's eldest brother saving someone in such a perilous situation was almost palpable to her.
If it weren't for Remington's eldest brother, Harper Long might not be alive now.
So, Remington's eldest brother was her lifesaver.
"It seems like you're truly grateful to Remington's eldest brother and you want to repay him, huh?" Nora said with a smile.
Harper nodded and joked, "I'd offer myself in marriage if I could, but unfortunately, my background isn't a match for his."
