Chapter 83 Her Influence Grew

Aaron's typically handsome face tensed up the moment Nora enter the room. But when Samantha addressed him, his expression softened as he casually replied,"Yeah."

Nora, both hungry and exhausted, hadn't noticed the shift in Aaron's mood.

"Samantha, it's time for bed. I'm really hungry, and I'm going to find something to eat in the kitchen."

When Nora mentioned her hunger, Aaron's attractive brows furrowed. Was she operating all this time? He couldn't quite tell if he was more angry or concerned.

"Mr. Gordon, I'll go to the kitchen to find Mommy," said Samantha, her big eyes fluttering before she slipped out of bed and padded to the kitchen in her slippers.

In the kitchen, Nora's appetite surged at the sight of all the leftover food prepared for her. Who could be so considerate?

"Mom, Mr. Gordon had Ember make extra food just for you," Samantha whispered as she walked in.

So it was Aaron's doing? Nora felt a warm surge of gratitude softening her features. "I'll thank him in a bit," she murmured.

Samantha looked up at her mother. "Mom, are you still mad at Mr. Gordon?"

Nora paused, then chuckled, "I'm not mad."

Her kids were too sensitive. She would have to be more careful about how she acted toward Aaron, not to give them the wrong idea.

"But Mr. Gordon seems unhappy," Samantha tilted her head in contemplation.

"Why would that be?" Nora was surprised.

"I don't know!" Samantha scratched her head, "Mom, Noe says you both care for each other. Mr. Gordon cheered you up this morning; can't you cheer him up now?"

Nora nearly spat out her soup but managed to swallow and cough twice.

Cheer up, Aaron! That seemed a bit much.

"Mom, Mr. Gordon can't walk yet. He's pretty miserable," Samantha cooed, clinging to her mother's legs.

Amused, Nora pinched her daughter's smooth cheek. "Alright, I'll ask him what's wrong."

Was Samantha really so concerned about Aaron that she expected her mother to comfort him?

"Take your time eating. I'll go find Mr. Gordon," Samantha beamed, darting back the way she had come.

"Don't disturb him; get yourself to bed," Nora laughed.

"No way, I want to spend a little more time with Mr. Gordon," Samantha scampered off, ignoring her mother's words.
Nora shook her head wordlessly.

Downstairs, Samantha bounded into the room, hopping onto Aaron's bed with gusto.

Worried she might catch a chill, Aaron quickly tucked her in.

Seeing her grinning at him, he arched an eyebrow, "What's up, Samantha?"

She flashed a toothy grin, "You owe me one, Mr. Gordon! Mom's coming to cheer you up!"

Aaron fell silent.

Nora was coming to cheer him up? Why?

"What did you tell your mom, Samantha?"

"I said you were looking a little down."

"And she's coming right over to cheer me up just like that?"

Samantha's big, beautiful eyes twirled, and she nodded.

Though it was her doing that, her mom was coming to placate him.

A smile crept onto Aaron's lips, lifting his spirits slightly.

He felt a faint sense of anticipation about how Nora would go about cajoling him.

But then he paused, wondering why he wanted Nora's consolation in the first place.

All he desired was for her to clarify why she had gone house hunting with Jack that afternoon!

After dinner, with the kitchen cleaned up,, Nora headed to Aaron's room.

The little one on the bed was already rubbing her eyes.

Despite being exhausted, she stubbornly fought off sleep.

Nora lifted her down, "Alright, Samantha, time to head upstairs to bed. I have to take care of Mr. Gordon now."

Samantha yawned, "Okay then, goodnight, Mom, goodnight, Mr. Gordon."

Nora escorted the little one upstairs and, upon her return, saw Aaron attempting to get off the bed.

She hurried over to assist him, "Mr. Wilson headed home?"

He grunted in affirmation, "There's no bed here; I can't make him miserable just because I am. I'm not that cruel."

His tone was neutral.

Nora helped him into the wheelchair, inching a bit closer.

"Thomas, what's wrong? Is there trouble at your company?"

Her delicate scent was alluring, and her clear, concerned eyes locked onto his.

Aaron's Adam's apple bobbed, and he struggled to calm his restless heart.

He didn't give a straight answer; instead, he wheeled over to a cabinet to retrieve a divorce certificate.

"You and Lucas are officially divorced."

Nora, still pondering the reasons for his upset, couldn't help but smirk at the document, "Thanks. Lucas agreed to the divorce without fuss? Didn't he ask for anything in return, like compensation for a psychic toll?"

"Is she questioning my capability?" Aaron thought to himself. "With me involved, how could Lucas possibly try to take advantage of her?"
Aaron gave her a cool glance. "If you're so loaded, by all means, go compensate him."

Nora blinked in amusement. "Why should I compensate him if I'm rolling in dough? I'd rather spend extra on some herbal remedies for you."

His face softened a little at her casual attempt to please.

"It's him who did you wrong. If you need financial reparation, I can make him pay for the emotional distress."

"No need. I'm not interested."

She wasn't short on cash.

Nor did she want any ties to her past.

As long as Lucas didn't hassle her anymore, that was enough.

Nora tucked away the divorce papers, then wheeled Aaron into the bathroom and started running a bath to prepare for his herbal soak.

Aaron sat in his wheelchair, watching her kneel down and slightly bend over to place the prepared herbs into the water.

The woman's movements revealed a sliver of her slender waist.

Her porcelain skin glowed temptingly through the steamy haze.

The curve of her waist and hips sparked the imagination.

Aaron felt his heartbeat accelerate as he shifted his gaze away, suddenly realizing his emotions had recently become more erratic.

The once composed and restrained man seemed to disappear around her.

He became impulsive and irritable, and even his libido surged.

Her influence on him was growing!

"All set."

After filling the bath, Nora swiftly helped Aaron out of his clothes and into the tub.

With his lips pressed into a thin line, Aaron clasped her delicate shoulders, feeling his emotions slightly stirring.

"Thomas, soak for a bit. I'll go prepare for the acupuncture," Nora said after wiping the sweat from her forehead. Then she left the bathroom.

Aaron sat in the tub, feeling restless amid the rising steam. Wasn't she supposed to be soothing him?

Why wasn't she doing anything?

After ten minutes, he couldn't help but call out, "Nora?"
