Chapter 157 The Time for Vengeance Draws Near

Aaron was a man besieged by unease. Despite his impassioned pleas, both logical and emotional, Suzy remained steadfast in her resolve.

"Suzy," he implored, his voice filled with a desperate sincerity, "you are a good woman, and there are countless talented young men who would be overjoyed to court you. Do not squander your time on me. I will say it once more, I cannot marry you. Please, I beg you, leave."

His patience had long since abandoned him, and he lowered his gaze to the documents spread out before him, the silence that filled the room heavy and awkward.

Suzy's face was a mask of embarrassment and frustration, her complexion as pale as a ghost. Biting her lip to suppress the bitterness welling up within her, she turned on her heel and strode out of the room, her fingers already dialing Mary's number.

"Suzy, have you finished speaking with Aaron?" Mary's voice, filled with anticipation, echoed from the other end of the line.

"Yes," Suzy responded, her voice barely above a whisper.

"And? What did you discuss? Did you set a date for the wedding?" Mary's voice was brimming with hope.

Tears welled up in Suzy's eyes, her voice choked with emotion. "Aaron...he said he won't marry me. He's going to marry Nora!"

"What! After all this time, he's still saying that?" Mary's voice was filled with indignation.

Tears streamed down Suzy's cheeks as she sobbed, "Yes, it seems Aaron has made up his mind. I'm afraid I won't be your daughter-in-law after all."

"Don't worry, Suzy. Just take a deep breath. Aaron is a good son, and even if he doesn't listen to me, he will surely heed his grandfather's words. I'll go talk to him right now," Mary hurried to console her.

Suzy responded with a soft murmur. After hanging up the phone, the vulnerability on her face instantly vanished. With the pressure from the Gordon elders, she was keen to see if Aaron would persist in his obstinate ways!

Meanwhile, at Mont International Kindergarten, children were scattered all around during playtime, their laughter filling the air. Tucked away in a corner, three children sat huddled together. Alex sneakily peeked at his phone while Billy scanned the playground for him. Samantha sat close by, swinging her little legs back and forth, a forlorn look on her face.

She missed Mr. Gordon, but how could he let those two mean ladies bully her mom?

"When are you going to stand up to them for Mom?" Samantha whispered to Alex, seeing no action from him yet.

"Don't rush, Suzy. When the time is right, Alex will stand up for our mom," Billy assured her.

After fiddling with his phone a bit more, Alex pocketed it and stood up. "Just wait, I'm going to find Teacher Monica." It was time to fight back for his mom!

Alex toddled over to a young woman. "Teacher Monica, may I use the computer in your office?"

The young teacher, who had recently transferred to the school, glanced down at him. "You need to use a computer? Do you even know how?"

She had heard the previous teacher was fired, apparently due to the triplets. Rumors were flying around that the triplets were the children of Aaron, Houston's wealthiest mogul, though she wasn't sure if the gossip was true. Nevertheless, she certainly wouldn't take any chances with them. Besides, they were not only cute but also well-behaved, and she found them quite endearing.

"A little bit," Alex nodded confidently.

"Alright, you can use it. Do you need me to accompany you?" Teacher Monica asked.

"No, that's okay. Thank you, Teacher Monica."

Alex scampered off to the office and began working intently on the computer.

Meanwhile, at Jack's lab, Nora had a busy morning. Around noon, she received a call from Jenny.

"Nora, let's have lunch together. Bring Jack along. I want to take you guys out," Jenny proposed.

Nora's curiosity piqued. "Come, and you'll see."

After the call, Nora went to fetch Jack for lunch. Driven by curiosity, the two made their way to The Garfield Mall.

"Jack, Nora, over here." Jenny was waving at them from the entrance of the mall. They huddled together and headed inside.

At that moment, the central area of the mall's first floor was cordoned off. Several cameras and a flurry of activity buzzed within the area, surrounded by a crowd of onlookers. It turned out a film crew was shooting there.

"Nora, do you see who that is?" Jenny tugged at Nora, nudging her to look towards where they were filming.

Nora focused and to her surprise, spotted Sunny amongst the actors. She remembered Sunny's Facebook announcement about landing a role in a new urban rom-com as the leading lady. So there she was, in the middle of a scene.

A thought popped into Nora's head. "Jenny, did you call us here just to gawk, or does this have something to do with Sunny?"

Jenny chuckled with a mischievous grin. "You guessed it."

Jack looked baffled. "Jenny, what are you up to?"

"Patience," Jenny said with a twinkle in her eyes. "We'll talk over food."

Their plan was to dine at the upscale restaurant on the mall's top floor. Jenny led them towards the express elevator.

"Jenny, you’re quite the sprinter, aren't you?" A man's voice came from behind.

Jenny halted, turning to see who it was, her brows furrowing. "Edric, what brings you here?"

Edric greeted Nora and Jack with a nod and a wicked smile. "Ah, you finally noticed me. I'm touched."

Jenny rolled her eyes dramatically and pulled Nora into the elevator. "After you, Doctor Parker," Edric gestured, letting Jack board first.

Despite his reservations about Edric, Jack, ever the gentleman, didn't comment further.

The four of them arrived at the restaurant on the top floor together. They were met with waitstaff who cordially welcomed the guests. Swaying music filled the air, and the restaurant's ambiance from the outside looked refined.

Just as Jenny and Nora were about to enter, a server stopped them. "Sorry, we're full at the moment. You'll need to wait for a table."

Jenny was taken aback. "How long is the wait?"

"There's a queue of guests ahead of you. You might want to come back after an hour."

What? Wander around for an hour, then come back for a meal? A slight frown appeared on Jenny's face. "Isn't it Monday? How is the restaurant so busy?"

Nora gently patted her hand. "Let's not worry about it. We'll just grab something quick." "You wouldn't believe it, Nora, but the window seats in this restaurant have the best view. I was thinking it'd be fun to sit here and watch all the action," Jenny pouted.

Nora chuckled, soothing her with a few words before getting ready to leave.

Just then, Edric's voice chimed in, "Getting a seat for dinner is easy."

Jenny was taken aback, "You have a way?"

"Be my girlfriend, and I'll take you in," Edric said with a charming smile.

Jenny rolled her eyes at him without a word, her reply caught in her throat.

Edric pulled out a VIP card from his pocket and handed it to the waiter. He was a VIP customer at this restaurant. As long as it was open, they always had a private room reserved for him.

"What are you waiting for? Come on in," Edric urged, addressing the three still standing outside.

Jenny blinked, hesitating, "Edric, you invited us in of your own accord. I didn't agree to your terms."

Edric laughed softly, said nothing more, and followed the waiter inside. Whether she agreed or not was irrelevant to him. The woman he liked would inevitably become his girlfriend.
