Chapter 128 What Did You Call Me?

Jack was silent for a moment on the other end before chuckling, "When did you go shopping yesterday? How did you manage it so quickly?"

"Last evening. Aaron went with me," Nora admitted truthfully.

Jack fell silent again. "I'm almost there. We'll talk when I arrive."

"Okay."

Nora hung up and hurried to freshen up.

After she was done, she peeked into the children's room.

The three kids were still asleep, probably exhausted from yesterday's activities.

Then Jack arrived.

Nora rushed downstairs to open the door.

In the living room, Aaron sat in his wheelchair at his desk and looked up from his computer when he heard the door open.

Was it Nora coming down the stairs?

She was definitely not heading out to greet Noe. After all, Aaron had asked Noe to come later today.

Aaron set his laptop aside and maneuvered his wheelchair toward the door, only to see Nora and Jack approaching, laughing under the sun. It was too bright to look at.

Aaron squinted, lips pressed into a thin line.

Outside, Jack spotted Aaron as well.

He nodded slightly at him and greeted, "Morning, Mr. Gordon."

"Morning."

Both men spoke coolly, but as their eyes met, an invisible spark seemed to crackle in the air.

Nora, seemingly oblivious to the tension, invited Jack to sit.

"Jack, take a seat for a moment; I'll go wake the kids up."

"No rush, it's the weekend. They can sleep in a bit before we start moving," said Jack with a gentle voice.

"They should get up for breakfast soon."

Nora smiled and then headed upstairs.

Now, it was just the two men downstairs.

Seeing Jack standing, Aaron spoke, "Dr. Parker, please have a seat. I'll get you some water."

He sounded like the host of the house.

Jack chuckled, "I can get it myself; I'm quite familiar with the place. You're the patient, Mr. Gordon, you should rest."

The implication was clear – Jack was close to Nora, while Aaron was merely her patient.

Both men were staking their claim.

Aaron's mouth curled into a smirk. "No worries, Nora's been taking great care of me. I'm already able to stand; thanks to her round-the-clock care, my recovery has been this swift."

Jack paused. "Round-the-clock?"

"Yes! Nora's spent several nights right beside me, providing close care."

Aaron's smile widened, eyes filled with determination.

Jack's hands clenched at his sides, his smile struggling to stay in place.

"Mr. Gordon, do you like Nora?"

Aaron's eyebrows shot up. "Yes!"

"Would you marry her?"

Aaron's eyes darkened. "As long as she's willing, I'd marry her at any time."

Jack stared at him for a long moment before letting out a cold laugh.

"Mr. Gordon, please don't make bold statements without thinking. You're not an average Joe. Nora is an outstanding woman, but could your family really accept her?"

Nora had a child and had been married before to Lucas!

Would the Gordons accept Nora?

"That's my business; Dr. Parker, you don't need to concern yourself with it." Aaron's gaze turned frosty.

Who he chose to marry wasn't up for others to dictate.

All that mattered was that Nora would marry him!

"Mr. Gordon, Nora has been hurt before. Are you sure your family won't cause her any trouble? I won't let her get hurt again, so I'd appreciate it if you kept your distance from her," Jack stated firmly.

Hearing this, Aaron's lips curled into a smirk. "At the end of the day, Dr. Parker, you have feelings for her too, have you? We could have a fair competition."

A fair competition?

A flicker of irritation passed through Jack's eyes. "Mr. Gordon, I'm not as selfish as you. I'll be by her side, silently protecting her."

If Nora harbored even a slight romantic interest in him, Jack would rise to the challenge.

Aaron's dark eyes narrowed. "Dr. Parker, you know that Nora doesn't fancy you. Are you afraid that confessing will mean losing her?"

Jack's heart was an open book, and, caught off guard by Aaron's insight, he said nothing.

Aaron continued, "Dr. Parker, if Nora doesn't like me, I'll back off, no questions asked. But I'm certain she has feelings for me, and I can't let her slip away."

Determination shone in his gaze.

Even seated in his wheelchair, an aura of pride and an intimidating presence that brooked no argument emanated from him.

Jack couldn't help but give a wry smile inwardly.

He always seemed a step behind. Whenever he was ready to make his move, there was always another man by her side.

Just then, footsteps echoed from the stairway.

Nora descended with three kids in tow.

Both Jack and Aaron chose this moment to let the conversation drop.

They masked their thoughts with smiles as the three kids approached.

"Good morning, Mr. Parker," the children greeted Jack in chorus.

"Up and at 'em, I see."

Jack affectionately tousled each of their heads, a warm smile on his face.

Noe arrived soon after.

A few men in dark suits followed him, there to assist Nora with moving.

Noe nodded slightly to Jack upon noticing him. What was Jack doing here so early in the morning?

"Kids, why don't you keep Mr. Parker company while I make breakfast," Nora told the children.

"Okay!" they chimed in unison.

"Nora, let me help," Jack offered with a chuckle.

"No need. Your hands are meant for surgery; don't risk injuring them," Nora laughed it off.

Jack laughed and shot Aaron a meaningful glance.

Aaron instinctively looked at his own hands. "Nora, I should be the one helping you."

Nora gave him a sideways glance and responded with a hint of exasperation, "You just stay out of it and keep put."

"Oh my, she's fierce!" Aaron mumbled to himself silently.

Jack couldn't help but chuckle, "Don't take it personally, Mr. Gordon. Nora's only tough on patients when they don't follow orders."

Aaron raised an eyebrow slightly. "Dr. Parker, you've got it all wrong. She treats me like this because I'm family!"

Jack fell silent. What a way to spin it.

Noe stood by, watching with a disinterested but slightly amused look as if catching a whiff of gossip.

It looked like Mr. Gordon's rival had just stepped into the ring!

"Mr. Gordon, can you help me do my hair, please?" cooed Samantha, leaning in close to Aaron.

He took the comb, his gaze softening.

"Samantha, when your mom isn't around, what do you call me?"

Samantha blinked, giggled awkwardly, but still affectionately called out, "Daddy!"

As Aaron braided the youngster's hair, he shot a glance at Jack.

Jack's face went through a subtle change, and he cursed inwardly.

Aaron got the kid to call him dad on the sly! Shameless!

And Samantha said it so naturally. Was she hoping Aaron would become their father?

Nora quickly whipped up breakfast.

She brought it to the table. "Jack, you should eat something, too."

Jack gathered his wits, responded with a nod, and sat down at the table.

Aaron, as usual, sat next to Samantha, attentively making sure she was well-fed.

Jack watched Aaron's practiced movements, realizing this wasn't his first time doing this, feeling a twinge of discontent.

Samantha used to be so attached to him, too!
