Chapter 192 Always Feeling Watched
As Nora emerged into the hallway, she noticed Aaron, ensconced in his wheelchair, being guided by Noe. Trailing closely behind him were two children. Reflecting on Aaron's proposal to care for his sons, Nora voiced her concern, "Are you certain you're up to the task, given your ongoing recovery?"
Aaron raised an eyebrow in response, his retort laced with an unspoken insinuation, "Do you really need to ask?"
His words stirred a blush in Nora's cheeks, memories of their intimate intensity flooding back. She returned his comment with a playful scowl. A smile danced on Aaron's lips, his eyes sparkling with amusement.
Beside him, Alex sought to reassure her, "Don't fret, Mom. We won't overtax Mr. Gordon."
Billy chimed in, offering his support, "Mom, if Mr. Gordon struggles with mobility, Alex and I can assist in his care."
Aaron regarded the brothers with a soft gleam in his eyes, murmuring, "Such good kids."
"I can help look after Mr. Gordon too," Samantha interjected, her voice sweet and childlike as she leaned closer to Aaron.
The tenderness in Aaron's gaze deepened. "How about you come to sleep in my room tonight?" he suggested playfully.
Samantha's eyes sparkled at the prospect, her response immediate, "Sure!"
From behind them, Nora frowned.
Sensing her mother's skepticism, Samantha quickly corrected herself, "Oops, I can't sleep in your room because I have to stay with my mom, or she'll be sad."
Nora silently sighed in exasperation.
"Are Aaron and Nora all settled in?" Edric inquired, approaching with Jenny.
"Yes," Aaron confirmed.
"Let's head out to dinner then," Edric declared, leading the group towards the resort's buffet restaurant.
The manager had thoughtfully arranged for a dedicated staff member to assist them.
Once they were seated, Jenny excused herself to visit the restroom. "Do you need me to accompany you?" Edric offered, already half-rising from his seat.
"Who needs you?" Jenny retorted, rolling her eyes in feigned annoyance.
"You go ahead. I'll gather your favorite dishes," Edric promised, his smile charming. Jenny asked the server for directions and made her way to the restroom.
After washing her hands, Jenny caught a fleeting glimpse of a figure in the mirror. 'Paul?' Startled, she spun around, only to find no one there. She paused, shaking her head after a few seconds. The figure had been too distant to identify clearly.
'Probably just my imagination,' she reasoned, releasing a breath as she recalled past events. 'That unpleasant chapter is behind me, and I hope never to cross paths with that swindler again.'
Upon her return, Jenny found their table laden with a variety of mouth-watering dishes. "Here," Edric offered, pushing a perfectly cooked steak towards her.
The tantalizing aroma caused Jenny to gulp subconsciously, "You eat. Don't worry about me."
Without uttering a word, Edric simply filled her plate with all her favorite dishes. Jenny glanced at him, decided not to argue, and began to eat at a leisurely pace.
As she dined, an unsettling sensation of being watched crept over her. She furrowed her brows, scanning the room. Everyone around her was engrossed in their meals, and no familiar faces were in sight. "What's wrong?" Edric asked, noticing her wandering gaze.
"It's nothing," she replied, attempting to dismiss her unease. Jenny redirected her attention back to her meal.
Once everyone had finished eating, the group, along with the three children, set off to enjoy their preferred attractions. "Aaron, Nora, it's still early. How about we let Noe watch the kids, and we explore some other rides?" Edric suggested, glancing at his watch.
Aaron remained indifferent, turning to Nora for her opinion. He was willing to accommodate her preference. Nora didn't particularly mind either way, as she wasn't especially fond of such activities.
Only Jenny displayed genuine enthusiasm. "What shall we play?"
Edric responded with a mischievous grin, "Aside from dancing, I bet you haven't really indulged in any fun, sporty activities, have you? Stick with me tonight, and I'll show you some thrills."
Jenny pouted, "Who says I haven't? I've been rock climbing, white-water rafting... I've tried plenty of exciting sports."
Edric's eyebrows arched in a challenge, "Really? Have you ever tried jet skiing?"
Jenny hesitated, casting a glance at Nora. She hadn't tried that before, but Jenny was not one to back down. "Is jet skiing difficult? I've never done it, but I'm confident I could learn after watching once."
Edric chuckled but refrained from further teasing. "Alright, let's go jet skiing."
"Sounds good to me," Jenny agreed enthusiastically, pulling Nora along with her.
Nora protested quickly, "I don't know how. Maybe I should sit this one out." She preferred to stay behind with the three children.
"No worries if you don't know how. I'll teach you. It's really simple," Aaron offered.
He would teach her? Nora's gaze drifted unconsciously to Aaron's legs.
Aaron raised an eyebrow teasingly, "What's wrong? Worried about my leg again?"
Nora remained silent. Now that Aaron's leg was barely an issue, she had no excuse not to join.
The resort was nestled against a mountain range on one side and bordered a lake on the other. The scenery was breathtaking. The four of them entrusted Noe with the children and then headed to the lakeside for jet skiing. Despite the onset of dusk, the resort was still brightly lit, ensuring guests could continue to enjoy themselves.
Some guests were playing volleyball by the lake, while a few others were jet skiing. Watching the jet skis roar closer from a distance, the riders, clad in wetsuits and helmets, cut a dashing figure. "Nora, jet skiing should be easy, right? Just twist the throttle. That's even simpler than driving a car," Jenny remarked, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.
Nora merely smiled, keeping her thoughts to herself.
"Some sports look easy, but they're not so simple when you actually try them," Edric interjected, holding two wetsuits and handing one to Jenny.
"Come on, take a seat next to me, and I'll give you a quick tour."
Jenny accepted the wetsuit, "Sounds good."
The two of them went to select a jet ski.
"Let's go as well." Aaron rose from his wheelchair, with Nora steadying him, and they chose a jet ski together.
"Aaron, how about a race?" Edric, fully equipped, challenged Aaron.
Aaron donned his helmet and responded in a calm tone, "Loser."
Edric snorted lightly, "I've only lost to you once, right? If I win today, we'll be even."
"We'll see if you can win first."
Aaron climbed onto the jet ski and instructed Nora, "Hop on." Nora complied, taking a seat beside him. The thrill and nervousness of trying a new sport for the first time were palpable. An instructor acted as the referee for the jet skis, and at his signal, both machines surged forward simultaneously. A cool breeze, laced with moisture, brushed their faces. Nora gazed at the ripples spreading across the calm lake surface, feeling more relaxed than ever before.
Both jet skis moved almost in parallel. She wished to see Jenny's expression at that moment, but couldn't see her face. However, she could hear Jenny's laughter, ringing out like a bell, echoing across the empty sky.
