Chapter 596 Who Says I Don't Like Her
Howard choked and stared at Evella firmly, saying, "When we were pretending to be a couple, you said that if you liked someone else, you would break with me. Do you really like that old man, Richard?"
Howard's words were filled with anger and jealousy.
Evella widened her eyes and said, "You are simply unreasonable."
In other words, she didn't like Richard.
Howard squinted and said, "Then why did you suggest breaking up? Aren't you afraid that Mrs. Remington will arrange blind dates for you again?"
Evella replied, "My godfather said he would talk to Grandma for me so I don't have to go on blind dates anymore."
Godfather again!
Why did Evella trust that old man Richard so much?
Howard felt a surge of anger building up.
At that moment, Evella's phone rang. It was from Richard.
With a cold face, after Evella answered the call, he snatched the phone from her hand.
"Evella, where are you?" Richard's voice came through the line.
"Richard, what have you done to Evella? I warned you, if you dare to hurt her, I will give you a piece of my mind!" Howard's tone was full of anger.
Richard was taken aback, then smiled and said, "Why don't you tell me how I hurt Evella?"
Howard clenched the phone, his face dark.
So far, Richard, the old thing, had not done anything to hurt Evella except suggesting a breakup.
If there was any harm, it was to him!
Howard gritted his teeth and said, "Why did you encourage Evella to break up with me? What hidden agenda do you have?"
Richard replied, "You two were pretending to be a couple; it's fake, so there's no question of breaking up or not. I just felt there was no need to continue the act. After all, you don't like Evella, and if both of you pretend to be a couple, facing criticism from others, it's not worth it."
So, that was what Richard meant.
Howard furrowed his brows, saying, "Who says I don't like her?"
Richard paused, then said, "You like Evella, but if you like her, why not pursue her and be a real couple with her?"
Howard realized he had spoken his true feelings.
He glanced subconsciously at Evella in the passenger seat.
At that moment, Evella's big eyes stared directly at him.
Howard took a deep breath and admitted frankly, "Because Evella doesn't like me, she has been resisting the idea of being with me. I was afraid that if I confessed my feelings for her, she would avoid me even more, so I chose a subtle way, pretending to be a couple with her first."
There was no emotion in Richard's tone. "So, do you really like Evella?"
Howard said, "Yes. I like Evella, so Richard, you old man, don't try anything with her. She is my girlfriend, so don't think about making a move on her!"
Richard laughed and said, "But Evella doesn't like you; what's the use of your one-sided affection?"
Richard's words struck a nerve.
With a dark face, Howard gritted his teeth and said, "I will make Evella fall for me."
After saying that, he hung up directly.
Beside him, Evella's big eyes blinked, still a bit puzzled.
Howard said he liked her.
Her feelings were quite accurate.
Evella's heart was beating fast.
Howard composed himself and looked at Evella, saying, "Evella, you heard it, I like you. Would you like to date me officially?"
Evella came back to her senses, staring at him with wide eyes, momentarily speechless.
His confession was strikingly blunt.
She had just mentioned breaking up with Howard.
"It seems like you don't want to, right?" Howard said.
Seeing her silence, he started the car.
"Where are we going? Are you taking me home?" she asked.
"No." Howard turned the steering wheel and headed towards the outskirts.
"Where are we going?"
"You'll find out when we get there."
Seeing Howard's tense expression, Evella had a bad premonition.
Why did she feel like Howard was trying to pressure her into agreeing?
"Howard, I don't want to be in a relationship right now, not for any other reason, just purely not interested. Look, it's already dark; please take me back." Evella tried to get Howard to take her back.
Howard still had a stern face and remained silent.
"Howard, did you even hear what I said?" she asked.
"I heard," Howard replied stiffly.
Evella was getting frustrated.
He heard her, but he was still heading towards somewhere else?
"Howard, take me back now!" Evella shouted.
Howard kept his eyes on the road and said, "I didn't say I wouldn't take you back. Of course, if you want to spend the night with me, I don't mind. After all, it's not the first time we've spent the night together outside."
Evella was taken aback, recalling the night she had spent with Howard in a hotel before, her face blushing. She said, "Who said I want to spend the night with you? Where are you taking me?"
Howard paused and said, "There might be a meteor shower tonight; I'm taking you to see it."
He had no experience in dating, but since he had decided to date Evella and they were pretending to be a couple, he wanted to be romantic and win her heart first.
Nora had mentioned to him before that to win a woman over, you could watch a movie together or do something romantic like watching a meteor shower.
Howard had kept that in mind.
So, when he heard there might be a meteor shower tonight, he planned to take Evella to see it after Rachel's birthday party.
He didn't expect the chaos that unfolded at Rachel's party.
The romantic scene didn't play out. Instead, a tragic drama unfolded.
He was about to lose Evella!
This was the first time in his life that he wanted to pursue a girl; how could he not have a good start?
He had to start with a romantic date!
"Are you really taking me to see the meteor shower tonight?" Evella's eyes lit up; her resistance softened a bit.
Howard glanced at her and said, "Why would I lie to you?"
Evella blinked her pretty eyes and asked tentatively, "Is this our last date?"
The last date!
They hadn't even had a date before!
Was Evella really thinking of breaking up with him like this?
Howard remained silent with a stern face.
He didn't want to say something hurtful that would drive Evella away the moment he spoke.
He tried his best to keep his emotions under control.
Seeing him silent, Evella stopped talking as well, sitting quietly in the passenger seat, looking at the night scenery outside.
The car drove onto a mountain road. The winding road was pitch black.
Except for the car's headlights illuminating the way, there was no light in sight. On one side of the road, there were vast forests. The breeze rustled through, causing the tree shadows to sway like ghosts. It was a bit eerie to look at.
Evella clenched her fists nervously, feeling a bit scared. She wanted to ask Howard to turn back, but the words stuck in her throat. She had never seen a meteor shower before and really wanted to see it.
Howard, in the driver's seat, seemed to sense Evella's unease, so he turned on some music.
Soft music poured out, calming Evella's nerves.
She leaned back in her seat, taking a deep breath.
"Are you nervous?" Howard glanced at her and asked.
"No," Evella denied.
Howard smirked, teasingly asking, "Are you afraid I'll do something to you in the middle of the night?"
