Chapter 193 A Sinister Pursuit of the Three Children
After covering approximately a mile, the pair of jet skis pivoted and began their return journey. By the time they sliced through the water to cross the finish line, Aaron and Edric were evenly matched, resulting in a draw.
Nora, removing her helmet, assisted Aaron in regaining his footing. Edric, now onshore, proposed a new challenge with a shout, "A tie! How about Nora and Jenny take the next round?"
Nora glanced at Jenny, who returned her look with an excited wink. "Nora, are you game for a race?" she asked.
Nora responded with a casual shrug, "Sure, why not."
Edric chimed in, "Come on, let's see who taught their student better, me or Aaron?"
Aaron, raising an eyebrow, silently communicated his confidence in Nora's impending victory. Nora replaced her helmet, helped Aaron to the side, and then mounted the jet ski.
"Don't be nervous. You saw how I handled it, right?" Aaron asked.
"Yes," Nora responded, replaying Aaron's maneuvers in her mind.
The instructor, now acting as a referee, signaled the start of the race. The two jet skis roared to life and sped off.
Nora gripped the handlebars of the jet ski, her hands trembling slightly. 'Some maneuvers look easy, but executing them yourself is another story.'
"Don't be stiff. Keep it steady," Aaron's calm, composed voice instructed from the side. Nora took a deep breath, her driving becoming increasingly steady. The lake water sprayed white blossoms as the two vehicles raced through it.
Despite the challenging twists and turns, Nora maintained her stability with confident handling. Ultimately, she reached the finish line ahead of Jenny. Aaron's lips curved into a smile as he admired her bright eyes and high-fived her.
Jenny arrived onshore moments later, turning off the engine and removing her helmet. Edric, hopping out of the vehicle, chided, "What's with the shaking? Didn't I tell you to take it easy on the turns and not to rush? You almost crashed."
His expression darkened as he thought about how the jet ski nearly stalled in the water. Jenny shot him a glare, "It's all your fault for nattering in my ear non-stop. You distracted me. It figures with your frivolous demeanor. No wonder I lost compared to her composure."
Edric fell silent. 'So she's blaming him for her loss? Well, if the trainee fails, it must be the trainer's fault.'
"Then how about a rematch? I promise I won't say a word this time," Edric suggested, unfazed, with a smile. Jenny pursed her lips and glanced at her hands, which were sticky with something. "You guys go ahead. I need to wash my hands."
As she walked away, Edric said to Nora, "Couldn't you have taken it easy?" Nora's almond-shaped eyes flickered, "You mean let Jenny win?"
"Yeah, then it would prove my coaching skills, boosting my image. If I became this impressive figure, wouldn't she start admiring me? Once she admires me, then she might, you know, completely fall for me?" Nora just shook her head, internally scoffing at the typical male ego.
Meanwhile, Jenny made her way to the restroom. This restroom was beside a wooded area, quite secluded, and no one else was coming to use it at that time. As dusk settled and a gentle wind stirred the leaves with a rustling sound, Jenny felt someone approaching. She assumed it was someone coming to the restroom. Glancing up at the mirror, she saw it was Paul.
'Is that really him?' 'Didn't she mistake him for someone else during dinner?' Hatred burned in the man's eyes. Jenny's heart skipped a beat as she turned to say something, but the man stepped forward, pressing a cloth over her nose and mouth. She whimpered, trying to push him away. However, the pungent odor assaulted her senses, slowly robbing her of consciousness.
Elsewhere, three children were engaged in play, their bodies slick with sweat. "I need to go to the bathroom," Samantha announced in a childish voice, running up to Noe.
"Okay, I'll take you," Noe responded, glancing at Alex and Billy, who were engaged in a game of soccer.
"Alex, Billy, stay right here and don't wander off. I'm taking Samantha to the restroom."
"Got it," they both panted in unison. Noe took Samantha's hand and led her to the nearby restrooms. Outside the ladies' room, he asked, "Can you go in by yourself? I'll wait for you out here." As a man, it wasn't appropriate for him to accompany her into the girls' restroom.
"I can," Samantha replied, pulling away from Noe's grip and running into the women's restroom. A middle-aged woman also entered after her. Noe glanced over casually, not thinking much of it, and waited outside for Samantha while watching the boys play soccer.
Suddenly, a man in black approached the brothers, scooped up Billy, and bolted. Noe's pupils dilated, and he instinctively dashed toward them. But before he could take two steps, he saw Alex throw the soccer ball, causing the man to stumble and nearly fall.
The man slowed down, and Alex lunged at him, raining punches and kicks at vital spots. The man was handicapped, holding Billy, and struggled to fight back. Billy wasn't idle either. He reached back, trying to claw the man's face.
With attacks coming from both sides, the man had to let Billy go. Once Billy hit the ground, Alex immediately pulled him close, watching the man in black warily and readying himself to defend. Noe was on edge but relieved the brothers had learned a thing or two from Aaron, or today could have been disastrous.
'Who is this man in black?' Noe squinted, a sudden realization prompting him to rush into the women's restroom. There, he found the middle-aged woman clutching an unconscious Samantha near the door as if waiting for a chance to leave.
Caught off guard by Noe's sudden entry, she looked at him frantically and in bewilderment. "Who are you?" Noe's expression was icy as he closed the distance in a bound, snatching Samantha from her arms, and then landed a fierce kick on the woman. The middle-aged woman screamed and fell to the ground.
She quickly scrambled to her feet and ran off. Noe wanted to grab her, but he was holding an unconscious Samantha with the boys outside, so he didn't pursue her. "Who the heck is messing with us?"
Luckily, he kept his cool. When the figure in black appeared, he didn't abandon Samantha and run. Otherwise, she would have been taken by now.
Noe couldn't delay. He carried Samantha out of the restroom. At that moment, Alex and Billy ran up, "Noe." Seeing the brothers unharmed, Noe breathed a sigh of relief, "Are you guys okay?"
"We're fine, what's wrong with Samantha?" Alex's face tensed up, seeing Samantha unconscious.
Noe checked Samantha's breathing and said, "She's been knocked out. I'll call Mr. Gordon right away."
Someone was after the kids. He had to tell Mr. Gordon immediately.
