Chapter 1059 Just Want to Quietly Protect the Little Princess
"King Mateo, please keep this a secret!" Alfred said, a bit embarrassed.
Mateo raised an eyebrow. "Alfred, you can't hide love. Do you think you're doing a good job? Ask Samantha's siblings; they probably know about your crush."
Alfred hoped that wasn't true. He just wanted to quietly protect Samantha without complicating things with his feelings.
Meanwhile, Wesley's car arrived at Gourmet Restaurant. It wasn't in the city center, but it was still famous.
The place was big, with gardens front and back. The serene and elegant vibe made it a top spot for celebs and high-end clients to dine and discuss business.
Naturally, it was pricey and membership-based. Even rich folks couldn't just walk in.
Wesley parked, got out, and opened the door for Samantha. She thanked him and they walked in together.
Elijah couldn't book a private room, so they had to sit in the main hall.
Samantha actually knew the owner, Ryan. When Ryan was a kid, a dog bit his tendons, and Nora's medical skills saved him.
Samantha and Ryan were close since childhood. Ryan often wished they weren't related so he could pursue her.
Samantha didn't tell Wesley she knew Ryan. She wasn't sure if Ryan would be there and just wanted a quiet meal with Wesley.
Luckily, the hall had privacy screens. The waiter led them to their spot.
Elijah was envious but knew Wesley wouldn't want her tagging along, so she stayed out.
After sitting down, Samantha took off her coat and said, "Wesley, I'm going to the restroom."
"Okay," Wesley replied. "I'll order. Any dietary restrictions?"
"No, I'm not picky," Samantha said with a playful smile.
Wesley watched her leave, eyes full of tenderness, then started ordering.
After ordering, Wesley felt a bit uncomfortable and decided to go to the restroom.
As he stood up, he bumped into someone.
"Sorry," Wesley apologized.
He looked up and saw Dennis Barnes, a veteran in the music industry with over twenty years of experience.
Dennis didn't like Wesley. When Wesley first debuted, he was on a music show where Dennis was a mentor. Wesley ended up competing against Dennis's chosen student in a knockout round.
Dennis's student was a music school grad but lost to Wesley, who had no formal training. Wesley won the show, and Dennis probably felt insulted, leading to lingering resentment.
At a music awards ceremony, Wesley won the most influential singer award. Dennis criticized Wesley, calling his music frivolous and saying his fans had no taste. He claimed singers like Wesley lowered industry standards.
Dennis came from a musical family and was a prodigy, so he was proud and outspoken. Despite fan backlash, Dennis remained respected in the industry and had many supporters.
Wesley, though he disliked Dennis, stayed polite out of respect. But Dennis showed no such decorum.
Dennis looked Wesley up and down, full of sarcasm. "Oh, it's you! As expected, your behavior screams lowly."
Wesley couldn't help but respond, "Mr. Gardner, I respect you as a senior, but that doesn't give you the right to insult me. I come from a humble background, but I love music. You shouldn't be biased against me."
Dennis sneered, "Bias? I just look down on you, plain and simple."
Dennis's words got harsher. Wesley wanted to retort but held back, fearing unnecessary trouble. He knew his success wasn't easy and didn't want to risk losing it all.
Just then, Samantha's clear voice came from behind. "Music has many forms. If people like it, it has a reason to exist. Mr. Gardner, it's a shame you'd say something so one-sided. You're the one disgracing the music industry."
Wesley saw Samantha walking towards them, her usually gentle face now cold and proud.
'Is Samantha standing up to Dennis? He's known for his harsh words. Isn't she afraid of retaliation?' Wesley straightened up, fingers clenched, worried for her.
Dennis, used to flattery, darkened at Samantha's confrontation. He looked her up and down and said coldly, "You must be Wesley's fan. So young and already sharp-tongued. Didn't your parents teach you to respect your elders?"
