Chapter 992 Making Up Stories
Gabriella: [How come I don't remember the Gordon Group having a secretary like you?]
Johnnie: [ I just started recently.]
Gabriella: [Not long and you already like him? What do you like about him, his restlessness?]
Her words dripped with sarcasm.
Johnnie's fingers swiped across the screen, and he replied: [Restless? I fell for Mr. Perez at first sight. Heard from colleagues he's super dedicated. Since joining, he's all about work and hasn't had a girlfriend.]
Gabriella: [Don't be fooled by his looks. He's a douchebag. While dating me, he was cozying up with his childhood friend.]
Johnnie knew she'd say that.He replied : [Really? Could it be a misunderstanding?]
Gabriella: [No way, I saw them hugging and being all lovey-dovey behind my back.]
Johnnie: [Sometimes, seeing isn't believing.]
Gabriella: [You've been completely influenced by him.]
Johnnie: [No, I'm just telling the truth because I've had a similar experience.]
He felt the need to make up a story to get Gabriella to reflect.
Johnnie: [I once had a boyfriend who seemed like a playboy to everyone. But only I knew he just hadn't found the right woman yet.]
Playboy referred to Gabriella.
Gabriella: [You're really a love-struck fool! Do you think you understand him the most?]
Johnnie: [Not love-struck, but I do understand him well.]
Gabriella: [Then why did he become your ex-boyfriend?]
Johnnie: [Because of a misunderstanding. Just like Mr. Perez was misunderstood by you, he misunderstood my relationship with a childhood friend and broke up with me. No matter how I explained, it was useless.]
Johnnie: [So as someone who's been through it, I advise you not to be too hasty in your relationship. You need to feel it with your heart.]
Johnnie sent the message and stared at the screen, waiting for Gabriella's reply.
After a while, Gabriella replied: [Aren't you infatuated with him? I broke up with him, you should be happy. But why do you sound like you're trying to reconcile us?]
Johnnie: [Because I like him, but he only sees me as a colleague. Since that's the case, I can only wish him well.]
Gabriella: [You sure are open-minded.]
Johnnie: [Yes, I'm very broad-minded.]
Gabriella didn't reply.
Johnnie: [I heard you went back to the country. If he comes to Hchilia to find you now, would you give him another chance?]
The message went unanswered; Gabriella didn't reply.
Johnnie unbuttoned a shirt button and exhaled. He said so much, but he didn't know if Gabriella took any of it to heart.
Meanwhile, Gabriella scrolled through their chat history, squinting her eyes.
This Marlowe was a bit strange. After a moment, she dialed the Gordon Group's secretary office.
"Hello, Secretary Office." A sweet female voice came through the line.
"Hello, I'd like to speak with Ms. Patel," Gabriella said.
"Sorry, we don't have anyone by that name in our company."
Just as Gabriella suspected, there was no such person. Hanging up, she glanced at the chat history again and sneered. 'Pretending to tell me a story? Johnnie hopes I'll repent and reconcile with him? Dream on! He wants to play mind games with me. Fine, let's see who outplays whom!'
Johnnie, unaware he'd been exposed, booked a flight to Hchilia that day. He found out where the Seafarer Enterprises folks were staying and checked into the same hotel.
The next day, he waited in the lobby. Around 5 PM, a group of people appeared, left the hotel, and got into a car. Johnnie called a car and followed them.
The car stopped in front of a high-end restaurant owned by Chrisland. Johnnie followed them into the elevator to a private room on the third floor. Watching the group enter, he waited outside for a bit.
Soon, a waiter went in to serve dishes, and through the open door, Johnnie saw Gabriella inside, chatting and laughing. He realized she had arrived early.
"Sir, are you looking for someone?" The waiter asked politely when he saw Johnnie standing at the door. Everyone in the private room looked over.
Gabriella raised her eyebrows when she saw Johnnie, a smile tugging at her lips. It seemed mocking, yet happy. She thought, "Johnnie, aren't you good at lecturing? Why are you here now? Did you come to find me?"
Johnnie met her half-smiling eyes and walked in.
"Who are you looking for?" someone asked.
"I'm looking for Gabriella," Johnnie replied.
"Ms. Costa, someone's here for you. This guy looks pretty sharp, who is he to you?" someone asked.
"Oh, let me introduce him. His name is Johnnie, my manservant," Gabriella said, eyes shifting, deliberately calling Johnnie a manservant.
Among the seven or eight people present, there were both Chrisland and Hchilia natives. Everyone was stunned by the term "manservant" and looked at Johnnie with interest.
Johnnie's face showed no anger; he nodded slightly to everyone and reintroduced himself. "Hello everyone, I'm Johnnie, Gabriella's personal manservant."
The implication was very suggestive. Everyone present was a seasoned businessperson, well-versed in the ways of the world. They all smiled knowingly. 'A personal manservant? Isn't that like a male escort? A man for Gabriella's pleasure. Are male escorts this bold and thick-skinned now? Not a hint of embarrassment on his face.'
"Ms. Costa sure knows how to have fun," The young man sitting next to Gabriella teased.
"Life is short, it's only fun if you enjoy it," Gabriella played with the wine glass in her hand and glanced at Johnnie. She couldn't figure out what Johnnie was thinking now. But Johnnie's self-deprecation in front of everyone put her in a good mood.
"True. Let me toast you," The man raised his glass to toast Gabriella.
Gabriella glanced at Johnnie, "Why are you still standing there? Since you're here, why not toast them for me?"
She provocatively smiled, and Johnnie knew she was ready to make things difficult for him. "Alright. I'll drink this toast for her."
