Chapter 549 Finding Sandy
A white cloth covered Matthew's face. Erin stared at it and finally burst into loud sobs. "Daddy!" she cried out. Her cry caused everyone around to weep bitterly.
Nora held Erin tightly, constantly comforting her, though her own tears flowed uncontrollably.
Aaron held them both, silently offering his support. Because Matthew's body carried a virus, it was cremated the same day.
Nora and Aaron stayed at the Jones Manor for two nights. As a future relative by marriage to the Jones family, Nora helped them complete Matthew's funeral.
When they left the Jones Manor, Aaron left Noe behind to take care of Alex's daily needs and assist him in learning the business, alongside the people Ebenezer had sent.
Noe, though reluctant to leave Aaron, understood that Aaron trusted him the most, which is why he was left to stay with Alex. His responsibility was significant.
Despite her sadness and reluctance, Nora had to accept this reality. At least she could video call Alex every day and visit him and Erin whenever she missed them. As Alex said, he was just studying in a different place.
Her main concern was Alex's safety. However, since Matthew had been poisoned, security at the Jones Manor had been heightened. The manor was now very secure. With Noe by Alex's side and the protection from Ebenezer's men, Nora felt somewhat reassured.
With the Jones family matters settled, Nora found herself thinking about Sandy. She quickly utilized the Jones family's intelligence network to start searching for Sandy's whereabouts.
The Jones family's network was formidable, and soon Nora received news.
In the photos, a pregnant woman wearing a veil was seen helping Zephyr treat elderly and disabled people in a fishing village.
Nora's fingers curled slightly as she looked at the image. Was this veiled pregnant woman really Sandy? Why was Sandy wearing a veil? Was it to hide her true face, or was there another reason?
Regardless, Nora was relieved to have found Sandy. She decided to meet Sandy immediately.
In a remote fishing village north of the Nim River, the area was isolated, and the village had few residents, mostly fishermen.
Many young people had left to work elsewhere, leaving behind elderly fishermen and some children.
On a piece of open ground near the sea, a large white umbrella provided shade over two tables. Zephyr sat in front of one, wearing a stethoscope and examining an elderly man. The veiled pregnant woman was dispensing medication to those who had been examined.
"Remember, take this bottle twice a day, two pills each time. And this one, three times a day, two pills each time," the pregnant woman patiently explained to the elderly man.
This woman was indeed Sandy, who had been missing for days.
"Dr. Hernandez, I can't read," the elderly man said sheepishly, squinting at the bottles.
"No problem, I marked the bottles for you," Sandy said gently.
She added, "The red-marked bottle is for twice a day, and the green-marked one is for three times a day."
The elderly man nodded repeatedly, understanding.
The elderly man said, "I got it. Thank you, Dr. Hernandez. My appetite has improved a lot thanks to your treatment. You and Dr. Wright are our saviors."
Somebody praised, "Exactly! Thank God you came here."
"Yes, Dr. Hernandez and Dr. Wright are the best doctors I've ever met," several elderly people waiting in line praised them.
Sandy smiled but said nothing, continuing to gently instruct the elderly man before calling the next patient.
Zephyr glanced at Sandy, a smile flickering in his eyes. He finished examining the elderly man and began explaining the medication patiently.
"Saviors!" He liked that title. He never imagined he would one day work and live with her. He hoped this life could last forever.
His mind flashed back to the moment he found Cora, and his smile faded slightly. After learning that Cora had left, he began searching for her frantically.
Initially, his search was aimless, yielding no results. After a day, he forced himself to calm down and recall Cora's words.
She had mentioned that if she ever retired, she would find a remote place to provide free medical care to the elderly and children who couldn't afford it. She believed that would make her life truly meaningful.
With this in mind, he felt he had found a clue and began searching for places fitting her description. Combining this with her route, he found the village after two days.
By then, Cora had rented a fisherman's house and was indeed providing free medical care to the elderly. He was elated but nearly broke down when he saw her face.
"Dr. Hernandez, come with me quickly!" A seven or eight-year-old boy ran up, shouting for Sandy, interrupting Zephyr's thoughts.
"Landon, slow down. What's wrong?" Sandy asked quickly.
"My mom fell. She might be going into labor!" Landon panted.
"All right, don't worry. I'll come check on her right away," Sandy said, pausing her work to grab her medical kit.
"I'll go with you," Zephyr offered, stopping his work as well. With limited medical resources, handling childbirth alone would be challenging for Sandy.
Sandy glanced at Zephyr and, without refusing, nodded. They hurried to the villager's home together.
The medical kit was heavy, and Sandy, with her large belly, struggled to walk quickly. In her haste, she nearly tripped.
"Careful," Zephyr said, catching her and taking the kit from her.
"I can walk on my own," Sandy tried to pull away, but Zephyr didn't let go.
Zephyr insisted, "Now's not the time to worry about such things. You're pregnant. If something happens to you, what will happen to Landon's mother?"
He had a point. Sandy said nothing more, allowing Zephyr to support her as they walked.
They soon arrived at the home of the laboring woman. As they entered, they heard the woman's cries of pain.
"Dr. Hernandez, will my mom die?" Landon asked, his face tense and eyes red with worry.
"No, she will safely deliver the baby," Sandy reassured him, bending slightly to stroke his head before quickly entering the room with Zephyr.
