Chapter 124 She Can Call Him 'Daddy' in Private
"Alright, let's head back," Nora said, noticing her daughter holding onto several dresses with great affection.
Aaron's eyes flickered with intent. "Didn't you mention you needed to buy furniture a few days ago? I've got time now; I'll go with you."
He hadn't forgotten that Nora was moving, nor had he forgotten about Jack.
By selecting the furniture tonight, he'd leave Jack with no excuses to get close to Nora!
"Now? Aren't the furniture stores closed?" Nora glanced at the time, hesitating.
They can open a furniture store even when it's closed!
Aaron's brows lifted as he glanced at Noe.
Catching on, Noe quickly said, "Nora, I know a friend in the wholesale furniture business. He took care of all the furnishings at Mr. Gordon's place. I'll contact him right now."
Nora felt a bit embarrassed. "Wouldn't that trouble you? It's okay to look for furniture tomorrow morning."
"It’s no trouble at all. Mr. Gordon always takes your matters very seriously," Noe smoothly spoke in Aaron's favor.
As Nora glanced at Aaron, her red lips pursing slightly.
Aaron sure knew how to pick a good Special Assistant. Always ready to sing his praises.
"Thanks," she said.
Aaron looked at her. "Nora, if you want to thank me, just remember the good I've done."
His gaze was intense, softened by a touch of tenderness.
Nora felt a flutter inside and hastily averted her eyes to the three kids and changed the subject.
"Kiddos, are you hungry?" she asked.
"Mommy, are we going out for a big dinner again today?" Samantha asked with a smile before Alex and Billy could speak.
Nora opened her mouth to answer when Aaron said, "Yes, we'll go out for a big dinner before accompanying your mom to look for furniture. How's that sound?"
"Yay!" Samantha clapped her small hands in excitement.
Billy looked at Nora. "Mommy, are we moving?"
"Yes, in the next couple of days, we'll move into a bigger house," Nora answered, stroking his soft hair with a smile.
Samantha blinked her large eyes and asked, "What about daddy? Is he going to continue living with us?"
Nora was silent.
Why did Samantha keep calling Aaron ‘Daddy’?
"Samantha, 'Daddy' isn't a name you can just throw around. He's Mr. Gordon, and you shouldn't call him that again, understand?" Nora corrected her.
Samantha glanced at Aaron, her little nose wrinkling. "But Mommy, I already called Mr. Gordon 'Daddy' at preschool today!"
"That was just a temporary measure."
"Samantha, be good," Nora asserted, her expression becoming more stern.
Realizing Nora was upset, Samantha pouted and looked at Aaron. He smiled back and gave her an OK sign.
Samantha blinked, suddenly understanding.
That morning, she had asked Mr. Gordon if she could secretly call him dad.
He said it was okay.
So Mr. Gordon had allowed her to call him dad in private!
With this thought, Samantha's spirits lifted.
"Mommy, will Mr. Gordon still live with us then?" Her daughter's big, bright eyes held a glimmer of hope.
Nora sighed inwardly but firmly responded, "No, he'll be going back to his own place."
Samantha's face fell instantly. "Mr. Gordon, are you leaving?"
Aaron pulled her close and stroked her soft hair. "It's okay; I'll be living really close to your new house. It’s in the same neighborhood. You'll see me every day."
Samantha's eyes sparkled again at the words.
"Can I really see you every day, Mr. Gordon?"
"Of course," Aaron said.
"And can my brothers and I come over to your place to play?"
"Sure thing. My door is always open to you whenever you want to visit."
Watching the exchange and seeing the bright light in her daughter's eyes, Nora felt a touch of helplessness.
Why was her daughter so taken with Aaron?
"Mr. Gordon, I've lined everything up with Yankos. He said he's ready to welcome us any time," Noe reported after hanging up the phone.
"Alright, let's grab a bite first," Aaron responded.
"Mr. Gordon, what are we having for dinner?"
"What do you guys feel like having?"
"Chicken drumsticks and pizza."
In the Star Villa neighborhood.
Suzy sat on the sofa, looking perturbed.
News from Nora's maid indicated that Aaron hadn't returned home that evening.
And Nora and the three kids hadn't come back for dinner either.
Did that mean they were dining out together again?
But she had made sure Sunny dropped hints at the social event, suggesting Aaron was a playboy with many women in his life, not to mention his fiancée—herself. Shouldn't Nora back off, knowing this?
Or could it be that Nora was vying to be Aaron's wife, challenging her position?
No, she couldn't let that happen.
She needed to find a way to drive Nora out of Houston!
Just then, the front door swung open, and Howard walked in, holding a document folder.
"Suzy, why are you spacing out here alone? Haven't you eaten?"
Spurred by his voice, Suzy snapped out of her reverie, looking forlorn. "Howard, I just can't eat."
Howard set the papers on the coffee table and sat down beside her.
"Tell me, what's wrong?"
Suzy's eyes rimmed with red. "Aaron's been seduced by Nora. He even implied to me that he might break off our engagement. What should I do?"
Howard’s face darkened at the thought of Nora's behavior towards him the past few days.
After a brief silence, he consoled her, "Don't jump to conclusions, Suzy. The Hamiltons and the Gordons go way back. Even for the sake of Gordon Group, Aaron will act in the best interest of both families."
He couldn't believe that Aaron would seriously consider marrying a single mother with no notable family background but three kids!
"Do you really think he'll act in the best interest of our families?"
Suzy sniffed, her face filled with hope.
"He will."
Howard consoled, "Men are always craving for novelty. Maybe Aaron's got a thing for Nora right now, but I bet that in the end, you'll be the one he marries."
Suzy nodded silently without a word.
Howard patted her hand. "Alright, don't overthink it. Go grab some dinner. I'm going to take a shower."
With a deep breath, Suzy reached for a tissue on the coffee table but inadvertently knocked a folder to the floor.
Picking it up, she glanced at the contents and noticed that it was Howard's latest research report for a project he was working on.
Suzy wasn't initially interested, but when she saw Nora's signature on one of the pages. Her eyes sparked with curiosity, and she began to flip carefully through the pages.
The report outlined a particular focus on the efficacy of acupuncture treatments used in the study.
This was the paper Nora was planning to publish!
If someone had released this research before Nora did, she'd have been accused of fraud and plagiarism.
With her reputation tarnished, she wouldn't dare show her face in the medical community of Houston again!
A sly gleam flickered in Suzy's eyes. Swiftly, she pulled out her phone and snapped pictures of the relevant sections of the document.
