Chapter 1039 The New Drug Has a Problem
"Congrats, Dr. Wright! Wishing you both a lifetime of happiness," Nora said with a smile.
"Thanks, and congrats on your second pregnancy," Zephyr replied.
They exchanged pleasantries.
Seeing everyone had arrived, Jane signaled for the meal to start. Everyone began eating.
Jane brought a wine glass to Zephyr and started toasting each table.
They first toasted Nora's table. Nora noticed Zephyr's gaze towards Sandy had changed—no more deep affection, just a gentle warmth, like looking at an old friend.
This was the best outcome for everyone. All were happy.
After toasting that table, Jane and Zephyr moved on to others.
At another table were Jane's friends from the police department. They were rowdy, making Jane and Zephyr drink and sing.
The room was filled with joy and laughter.
The lively atmosphere abruptly halted when Jane got a call. "Ms. Harvey, check the news. Our new drug has issues. Many people are vomiting and fainting after taking it and are in several hospitals."
Jane's face turned serious. She quickly hung up and read the news. The drug issue was trending.
Reporters were at the hospital, covering the incident.
"What happened? Who called?" Zephyr asked, his face flushed from the drinks.
"The company is in trouble. The new drug we developed with Vitalis Pharmaceuticals has problems," Jane said, looking worried.
Zephyr was shocked. He took her phone, read the news, and his expression turned serious too.
This was a project he and Jane had worked hard on. Zephyr had overseen the development, trials, and release.
There shouldn't have been any problems. But now, many users were having issues.
Just then, his phone rang. It was their partner, Finnegan.
He quickly answered. "Mr. Foster."
"Zephyr, what's going on? How could the new drug cause problems?" Finnegan asked.
"We're not sure yet. I'll go to the hospital to find out," Zephyr replied.
"Zephyr, I partnered with you because you saved my grandfather. I trusted you despite your lack of business experience. But now there's a big issue. You'd better handle it, or we might become enemies," Finnegan said firmly.
Zephyr gripped his phone tightly. "I know. I'll give you an explanation."
He knew Finnegan was showing him respect. After hanging up, he said to Jane, "I'll go to the hospital to figure this out."
"No, you're the project leader. If you go, you'll be swarmed by reporters and patients' families. I'll go," Jane said.
Zephyr shook his head. "It's okay. I'm the project leader. I can't back down now."
Jane knew his stubbornness. Once he decided, there was no stopping him, so she didn't try.
They informed everyone and ended the dinner party early.
A few business folks like Aaron and Kenneth saw the news and realized the Wright Family's business was in trouble.
Nora, curious about the pharmaceutical issue, said, "Aaron, I want to go to the hospital to see what's going on."
Aaron frowned. "The hospital's chaotic, and you're pregnant. You shouldn't go."
"But you and Frederick are here. I'll be fine," Nora insisted, clinging to his arm. "I promise to stay away from the crowd and just check on the patients."
Aaron, unable to resist, reluctantly agreed.
"Ken, I want to go too," Sandy said to Kenneth.
Kenneth frowned. "You want to go too?"
"Yes, I'll go directly to the lab to see if I can help Zephyr," Sandy said, her eyes showing concern.
Kenneth wanted to refuse but eventually nodded. "I'll go with you."
"Thank you, honey," Sandy said with a warm smile. Kenneth smiled back and took her bag.
Kenneth and Aaron, like knights, carried their wives' bags and accompanied them to the hospital.
At the hospital, the emergency room entrance was crowded with reporters and families of those affected.
Soon, some reporters noticed Zephyr and Jane arriving.
A group of reporters quickly surrounded them. "You're Zephyr, right? We heard you're in charge of this project. Can you explain what's going on?"
Zephyr, prepared for this, calmly replied, "The specifics are still being verified. I assure you, we will give the public an explanation."
This official response didn't satisfy the reporters. One asked, "Mr. Wright, did you use substandard materials during development, causing these issues?"
"Mr. Wright, you were a doctor before and only recently returned to the Wright Family. Did you rush to achieve results and secretly use substandard materials to cut costs?"
The reporter's question was pointed. Zephyr glanced at them, recognizing they were from non-mainstream media.
His gaze turned cold. "Be careful with your words. I said we would give an explanation, but you need to give me time to find the root cause. If it's my fault, I won't shirk responsibility."
The reporters pressed on. "The Wright Family's pharmaceutical business was doing well before, but as soon as you took over, there was a big mistake. Does this mean you're not fit to manage the company?"
"Indeed! Mr. Wright, you were just a doctor before and had no experience managing a company. It seems professional matters should be handled by professionals."
"Exactly. Mr. Hubert Wright was managing before. What was Mr. Leonard Wright thinking, handing the company over to an inexperienced illegitimate son? You are not taking the patients' lives seriously."
"Right, now that the new drug has caused problems, shouldn't Mr. Leonard Wright reflect on this?"
