Chapter 226 She's a Smart Woman
Aaron glanced up at her, and seeing the glum look on her face, a glint of amusement flashed through his eyes. He took her hand, no longer teasing her.
"It's quite hard to get you to admit you're jealous, isn't it? What kind of secret could I have with her? Just that one time, I came across a tough client in business. The client could drink a lot, and she somehow found out, showed up, and drank so much for me that she nearly ended up in the hospital with an injured stomach. That's all, and since then, I've kept her in my business circle," he narrated the story of how he knew Quinn, and Nora listened intently.
"She must have taken a liking to you," Nora concluded.
Aaron raised an eyebrow, "Are you jealous?"
Nora was now speechless. They couldn't skirt around the topic anymore. "Thomas, when I say she's taken a liking to you, maybe she admires your abilities and wants to ride on your coattails to succeed in the business world. I think she's a smart woman."
Aaron inwardly agreed with her assessment, but he didn't show it on his face. "Is that so? You understand her that well?"
"Of course."
"But she just mentioned being the other woman," Aaron teased purposely.
Nora glared at him.
Aaron chuckled, "I wouldn't dare, afraid you might dump me."
Nora was dumbfounded. She thought to herself how it sounded as if they were already married. The atmosphere in the car was good as Aaron dropped Nora off at the entrance of the laboratory.
"Who's picking up the kids from school this afternoon?" Aaron asked.
After thinking for a moment, Nora replied, "I need to treat Baldwin's mother's leg today."
"All right, I'll pick up the kids later," Aaron said.
"Sounds good," Nora agreed naturally.
It wasn't until after she stepped out of the car that she realized she may have agreed too readily, as though they were an old married couple.
After a busy afternoon in the lab, she received a call from Baldwin.
"Nora, you're at the lab, right? Do you want me to pick you up?" he offered.
"No need, I'll be over there soon," Nora responded quickly as she shut down her computer.
"See you soon, then," Baldwin said with a laugh.
Nora blinked. Wasn't he supposed to be filming during that time? Maybe he was just a devoted son who didn't want to leave his mother's side during treatment.
Early in the evening, Nora left work half an hour early and had Frederick drive her to Baldwin's mansion.
Mary greeted her enthusiastically upon her arrival. "Nora, did you drink the sweet soup Baldwin brought for you this morning?"
Nora didn't drink it. With a light in her eyes and a dry laugh, she vaguely affirmed.
"I've saved some in the kitchen. Are you hungry? Would you like some now to snack on for a bit?" Mary asked.
"That's all right, let's focus on the treatment first," Nora politely declined.
"Sure, you can have the sweet soup after the treatment," Mary said with a smile as she led her upstairs.
In the room, Hollis had already bathed, was lying on the bed, and was ready for Nora's arrival.
When Hollis saw her, a spark of hope flashed in her eyes, "Nora, you're here."
After greeting Hollis, Nora began to prepare. "Mary, did you manage to get all the herbs I asked for?" Nora inquired.
"We got them all," Mary confirmed.
"Great." After asking a few more questions, Nora started the physiotherapy treatment on Hollis. As she inserted the needles, she would check on Hollis's condition, but Hollis didn't react.
"Nora, will I surely be able to stand on my legs?" Hollis asked, a touch of nervousness in her voice.
Nora put in the last needle and smiled, "Trust me, you will be able to stand."
"I believe you," Hollis responded.
Nora checked the time, "The treatment needs more time. I'll go and prepare the herbal decoction."
"All right, Nora, please come with me to the kitchen," Mary said.
Both descended the stairs, and Nora followed Mary to the kitchen. She checked all the medicines that had been purchased correctly.
"Mary, I'll tell you later how to split them into proportions, these medicines are for brewing so that you can prepare it in the morning and administer it to Hollis three times a day," Nora said.
"All right," Mary replied, watching as Nora adjusted the proportions of the medicines before brewing them.
At that moment, Baldwin returned. "Mary, Nora."
"Baldwin, you're back," Mary said with a smile, greeting him.
"Yes, are you preparing the medicine?" Baldwin asked as he took off his coat and handed it to Mary.
"That's right, Nora has been a big help," Mary commented.
Nora gave a modest smile, "It's nothing, just a small favor."
Baldwin looked at Nora, his dark eyes revealing its depth.
Nora, while brewing the medicine, glanced at the clock, "Mary, this needs to brew for half an hour. Keep an eye on it, please. Lower the heat after ten minutes. I'm going upstairs now."
"Sure thing," Mary quickly responded.
"Let's go together," Baldwin suggested, following her upstairs.
Together, they entered Hollis's room. Baldwin, seeing his mother's legs covered with silver needles, was visibly concerned, "Mom, how are you feeling?"
Hollis chuckled, "Silly boy, it's only the first day. What could I possibly feel?"
Baldwin laughed, "You're right. I'm just being impatient."
Hollis looked at them, deliberately asking, "Nora is so beautiful. She must have a boyfriend, right?"
Nora, observing Hollis's condition, just smiled at the comment.
Hollis continued, "Nora seems like such a nice girl. Whoever marries you is lucky."
Nora smiled lightly, "I'm divorced."
Hollis's expression shifted subtly, "Really? Why did you divorce?"
Nora replied, "He probably thought I wasn't good enough for him."
Hollis snorted softly, "That man must be unlucky."
Nora couldn't help but laugh, "You have a way of comforting people."
Hollis glanced at Baldwin, "Just the other day, I was nagging him to get married soon so I could hold a grandchild. Baldwin, did you hear that?"
Baldwin glanced at Nora and said, "I heard."
Hollis prodded, "Then you should find a girlfriend."
Baldwin looked down slightly, "With my career, even if I found a girlfriend, I could only have a secret marriage. I guess most regular girls wouldn't be happy with that."
Hearing this, Nora somewhat disagrees, "Baldwin, times have changed. Fans are quite accepting of their idols' relationships."
Hollis smirked, deliberately asking, "Baldwin, did you hear that? Do you have someone you like now?" Attempting to play the matchmaker.
Baldwin glanced at Nora and admitted, "Yes. I've recently taken a liking to a girl."
"What are you waiting for? Go after her!" Hollis encouraged.
Baldwin looked over at Nora again and nodded in agreement.
Spurred by her curiosity, Nora couldn't help but ask, "Baldwin, do tell me, who is this girl you like? Is she a big celebrity, too?"
