Chapter 906 You Were the First Man to Make My Heart Flutter
Jane raised an eyebrow. "What are you doing here, trying to eavesdrop?"
Zephyr's eyes flickered with discomfort. "Don't be ridiculous. I saw you locked in your room and wanted to check if everything's okay. Is something serious going on?"
Jane glanced at him but didn't call him out. "Go turn on the computer."
Zephyr hesitated, remembering Emilio's message about sending info to Jane's email. He straightened up and nodded. "Did Emilio send you something?"
Jane asked, "How do you know?"
Zephyr blurted out, "Didn't he message you?"
Jane smirked. "You saw it?"
Zephyr was speechless. He'd let it slip. Honest to a fault.
Feeling flustered, Zephyr headed to the study, wishing he could bang his head against the wall. Jane couldn't help but laugh at his retreating back. He must've seen all of Emilio's messages, including the last one.
Her mind flashed back to when Zephyr introduced her to Emilio as her fiancé. 'Did Zephyr sense Emilio's feelings for me?' she wondered. 'Sharp kid.'
In the study, Zephyr turned on the computer, trying to act calm. "What did Emilio send this time?"
Jane got serious. "I asked him to dig up dirt on the heads of several key departments at Medicovita Pharmaceuticals. It'll make our job easier."
Zephyr stood up, letting Jane take the chair. She opened her email, and Zephyr leaned in, his expression serious. Emilio had indeed dug up some juicy details. With this info, Zephyr could easily control them when he took office tomorrow.
"Well done," Jane said, smiling.
She stood up. "Alright, take your time. I'm going to take a shower."
Zephyr glanced at her. "Jane, does Emilio like you?"
Jane paused and shrugged. "I don't know. But I know I don't like him."
Zephyr thought about Emilio's message. "Have you ever liked anyone before?"
Jane looked him in the eye. "No, you're the first man to make my heart flutter."
Her eyes were clear, serious. Zephyr's heart skipped a beat. He remembered Emilio saying Jane's taste had changed and tried to stay calm.
"But Emilio said your taste changed. Are you sure you've never liked another man before?"
Jane said, "Zephyr, who knows my feelings better, me or someone else? I said no, so no."
She looked determined, and Zephyr averted his gaze, still trying to act calm. "Alright, go take your shower."
Jane teased, "Feeling relieved now?"
A hint of discomfort flashed in Zephyr's eyes. "What do I have to be relieved about?"
'Stubborn as ever,' Jane thought, smiling. She left the study to wash up.
Watching her leave, Zephyr tried to refocus on the information. But Jane's clear eyes and her words, 'You're the first man to make my heart flutter,' kept flashing in his mind.
Zephyr couldn't help but smile, feeling inexplicably happy.
The next morning, Zephyr woke up to the smell of food. Jane was busy in the kitchen, sunlight streaming in and lighting up the room—and his heart. Watching her, a hint of tenderness flashed in his eyes. She was really eager to practice her cooking skills and become his official girlfriend soon.
He didn't want to disturb her, so he went to wash up first. Then he carefully selected a high-quality dark suit from his wardrobe. It was his first day on the job, and he needed to look sharp. Dressed in a crisp white shirt and black trousers, he headed to the dining room just as Jane finished setting the table.
Seeing him all dressed up, Jane raised an eyebrow. "All set and ready to go?"
Zephyr pulled out a chair and sat down, nodding. "You should hurry up too."
"Yes, Mr. Wright," she teased.
Zephyr glanced at her but didn't argue. Jane took off her apron, changed her clothes, and sat across from him. She was also in a white shirt and black trousers, her short hair neat and professional. She looked like a career woman, though her demeanor was more like a bodyguard.
"I specifically wore a white shirt and black trousers. Don't we look matching?" Jane said, taking a sip of milk.
Zephyr looked at her again. "I didn't notice until you mentioned it. Did you do it on purpose?"
"Yes, I want everyone to know I'm your girlfriend," Jane teased.
Girlfriend or bodyguard, either way, Jane would be by Zephyr's side from now on, fighting alongside him. Zephyr smiled and started eating his breakfast without refuting her.
Jane noticed. Zephyr didn't argue? It seemed he had silently accepted her as his girlfriend.
After breakfast, they tidied up and set off for Medicovita Pharmaceuticals. The company was in a commercial building in the west of Lindwood City, about an hour and a half drive away. They arrived just before nine.
As they entered the building and took the elevator to the twenty-second floor, they saw a group of people gathered around the reception, talking animatedly.
"Did you see the announcement? The Wright family's illegitimate son is starting as the general manager today!"
"Our company makes a lot of profit. Why does Mr. Wright let an illegitimate son manage such an important branch? Does it mean he might inherit the company in the future?"
"It's possible. Looks like the group is in for some changes!"
"I wonder what kind of person this illegitimate son is. I heard he used to be a doctor and never managed a company. Will he mess things up?"
"I don't care if he can manage the company as long as he doesn't lower our salaries and benefits."
Hearing everyone call him an illegitimate son, Jane glanced at Zephyr. His expression remained calm, showing no significant change.
