Chapter 803 Finally Realized the Mistake
Fiona felt like she had been living like a queen ever since she married into the Bishop family.
Edward doted on her.
Edric was excellent and obedient.
So Fiona felt particularly superior and lived a very comfortable life.
But one day, Edric suddenly got married.
And he didn't even consult Fiona before marrying Jenny, a woman whose status and background didn't match the Bishop family.
This made Fiona both surprised and angry.
She felt as if Jenny had taken Edric away from her.
That was why she hated Jenny so much and kept causing trouble, hoping Edric and Jenny would divorce.
But now, with Betsy suddenly appearing by Edward's side, Fiona had an epiphany.
Fiona forgot that she was also a woman and had once experienced the distress of Edward having an affair.
She had been foolish, always trying to arrange women towards Edric, neglecting Jenny's feelings as a fellow woman.
'Jenny was also a daughter from a good family. How heartbroken her parents would be if they knew Jenny was being mistreated by her in-laws!'
Thinking of this, Fiona held Jenny's hand. "Jenny, forgive me. I was foolish before and made you sad."
Hearing this, Jenny's nose inexplicably tingled.
She felt a sense of relief and hope.
Jenny reached out and hugged Fiona, calling out, "Mom!"
Fiona finally realized her mistake and would definitely not arrange women towards Edric anymore.
She was so happy.
She wanted to share this joy with Nora immediately.
Outside.
Edric found Edward in the smoking area.
Thinking of Betsy, Edric scratched his brow and called out, "Dad."
Edward flicked his cigarette ash and turned to look at him. "You met Betsy. Did you do anything to her?"
He had just called Betsy, but she didn't answer.
He didn't know if she was busy or if there was another reason.
"I said, if she didn't ruin your marriage with Mom, I wouldn't hurt her," Edric said.
"That's good."
Edward took a couple of deep drags on his cigarette.
"But why isn't Betsy answering the phone? Did you go over and scare her?"
Hearing this, Edric's brown eyes narrowed. "Dad, emotional betrayal is still betrayal. You don't really have feelings for her, do you?"
Edward frowned. "I told you, we're just friends difference."
'Friends? That was just Betsy's act,' Edric thought.
Edric asked, "Dad, do you know about Betsy's past?"
Edward looked at him. "What past?"
Edric said, "She used to be a small-time actress in the entertainment industry, but she was blacklisted because of her messy personal life. Now she's reduced to singing in small shows."
Hearing this, Edward frowned. "You investigated her?"
Edric scoffed, "I don't have to. I run an entertainment company. I'm very familiar with people and things in the industry!"
Edward was silent for a moment. "Betsy told me she had done something wrong before. So the wrong thing she mentioned was being blacklisted in the entertainment industry?"
Edric reminded him, "She wasn't blacklisted for no reason."
Edward glanced at him, displeased. "Edric, don't slander her. I know the entertainment industry well enough. Without strong backing, a small star is just a pawn for capital."
Edward kept speaking up for Betsy, showing how good Betsy was at manipulating him.
Look how obsessed Edward was.
Edric was frustrated. "Dad, you're right that the entertainment industry is a battleground for capital, but that doesn't mean Betsy is a well-behaved woman."
"Not to mention the reason why she was blacklisted, just look how her presence has caused you and Mom to argue. Don't you think she's a scheming woman?"
"Maybe, as Mom said, Betsy is using her youth and beauty to charm you, aiming to replace Mom and become the mistress of the Bishop family."
He had to tarnish Betsy's reputation a bit to prevent Edward from falling for her completely.
Edward glared at Edric. "What nonsense are you talking about? You said it yourself; it's just a misunderstanding."
"I did say that, but I don't know Betsy well. I can't know what she's really thinking."
Edric said, "Besides, Betsy isn't stupid. She wouldn't openly tell me she's deliberately seducing you to make you divorce Mom and marry her."
Edward glared at him again. "Can you stop slandering her? I'm not stupid. I've lived long enough to tell if someone is seducing me or not."
Seeing Edward's stubbornness, Edric knew there was no use arguing with him, fearing it would backfire.
"Fine, just consider it my nonsense. Dad, you haven't thought about divorcing Mom and marrying someone else, right?"
Edward frowned. "I told you, Betsy and I are just friends. I know my limits!"
Edric smiled. "I'm just worried you might be getting senile."
Edward glared at him. "Are you asking for a beating?"
Edric touched his face. "Dad, you want to slap me again? Go ahead, hit me."
Thinking of the previous slap, Edward's face showed some embarrassment.
Edric smiled and changed the subject. "Alright, I don't think you'll divorce Mom. Look, you even hit me for her."
Edward said, "Of course, your mom's just overthinking."
Edric thought to himself that Fiona wasn't overthinking.
'If this continued, his soul might really be taken by Betsy,' He thought.
But Edric wouldn't say that now.
Thinking of Jenny, he said, "But Dad, think about it. Isn't Jenny very innocent? Doesn't your situation now feel a bit similar to mine?"
Edward was stunned. "How is it similar?"
"Look, we both have a woman appearing around us," Edric said.
Edward glanced at him but didn't say anything.
Edric continued, "Don't you think Jenny is living a very stifled life? Mom can rely on her family to trouble Betsy, but Jenny can't. The women around me are arranged by Mom, and Jenny can't do anything about it. Luckily, Jenny is broad-minded. If she had a personality like Mom's, our family would have been in chaos long ago."
Hearing this, Edward's eyes showed a trace of discomfort.
He coughed lightly. "You should talk to your mom about this. I don't agree with her actions either. Your mom is just unreasonable."
Edric sensed the dissatisfaction in Edward's tone and thought he had made things worse.
His words seemed to have deepened Edward's dissatisfaction with Fiona.
Edric's eyes flickered, and he quickly tried to smooth things over. "Mom is so strong-willed because you've spoiled her, Dad. You're my role model. How you treat Mom is how I'll treat my wife in the future."
