Chapter 850 She Didn't Want to Leave

"Dr. Smith, Mr. Gordon, it's noon. Why don't you stay for lunch?"

Hugo needed Nora to treat him, so he naturally welcomed her and Aaron with great enthusiasm.

Nora and Aaron were more than happy to stay.

After all, Millie was here, and they still wanted to persuade Hugo to let them take Millie back.

The two agreed readily.

Hugo then looked at James, his expression turning cold.

"James, be sensible. Are you leaving on your own, or do I need to have someone throw you out?"

James had been staring at Jasmine and Millie, looking a bit dazed.

Hearing Hugo's words, he clenched his fists and said, "I'm not leaving."

"If you don't leave, I'll have someone throw you out?"

Hugo ordered the servants, "Escort him out!"

Aaron frowned slightly and said, "He's our friend, Mr. Rochet. For our sake, please don't be at odds with James."

Hugo's face darkened, saying, "Mr. Gordon, it's not that I don't respect you, but to me, he is a traitor. Asking me to get along with a traitor is impossible!"

Nora interjected, "Mr. Rochet, I understand this is a lot to process, but try to see it from this perspective: This situation, however difficult, has brought to light a health concern you were previously unaware of. Without this knowledge, seeking treatment wouldn't have been possible. Now, you have the opportunity to address it and focus on your well-being."

Nora's words left Hugo unable to argue.

Aisha also spoke up, "Dr. Smith is right. Hugo, let's listen to Dr. Smith and let Mr. Franklin stay."

Aisha's agreement seemed to soften Hugo's stance. He gave up the thought of throwing James out, but he didn't give James a friendly look either.

Nora gave Aisha a grateful smile.

Aisha was in a good mood and was very warm towards Nora, offering coffee and fruit.

After some small talk, she personally went to the kitchen to instruct the servants to prepare more dishes.

Nora watched Millie playing in the garden, her mind preoccupied.

She tentatively asked, "Mr. Rochet, Millie still needs to go to school. Are you planning to have her attend school here?"

Hugo was a smart man and understood the implications of Nora's words.

He took a sip of coffee and said, "Dr. Smith, I understand what you mean. But until my illness is cured, I won't let you take Millie back."

As expected, although Hugo was willing to compromise, he wouldn't immediately let them take Millie back to Chrisland.

Nora looked at him and asked, "Mr. Rochet, don't you trust me?"

Hugo put down his coffee cup and continued, "Dr. Smith, it's not about whether I trust you. It's about whether you trust me. Millie is my niece. If I have no heirs, everything I have will be hers. Therefore, as long as she stays here, I will never mistreat her. You have nothing to worry about, right?"

That was true.

If Hugo had no heirs, he would only treat Millie as a treasure.

But Millie's background involved Emmeline's hatred and last wishes.

Before Nora could speak, James interjected, "Emmeline's dying wish was for me to take care of Millie. Emmeline hated Stov the most. Do you think I can leave Millie here?"

Hugo glanced at him and said, "I don't care about the grudges between Stov and Emmeline. I only know that Millie has our family's blood. She should stay here."

James said, "I don't care whose blood she has. I only know that Emmeline hated Stov the most. She wouldn't want Millie to stay here."

The atmosphere became tense again.

The two couldn't stand each other.

They both wished they could get rid of each other.

At this moment, Millie ran over.

"Mommy, Daddy, come play with me."

Millie held a small ball, asking Nora and Aaron to play with her.

The two didn't refuse and got up to play with Millie.

Under the sunlight, Millie laughed happily.

Nora played with her for a while and, seeing her face covered in sweat, took out a tissue to wipe it off.

Aaron took a water cup from Jasmine and gave Millie some water.

Millie drank half a cup in one go.

Nora looked at Millie's rosy face, her eyes flickering.

"Millie, do you want to go back to Chrisland with us?"

She wanted to gauge Millie's opinion first.

Millie glanced at Jasmine, who was standing not far away and hesitated.

Nora's heart sank slightly, asking, "Millie, do you want to stay here?"

Millie looked down at the water cup in her hand and didn't say anything.

She probably wanted to stay.

Nora asked again, "Millie, don't you miss Billy and Samantha?"

Mentioning Billy and Samantha, Millie responded, "I do, but I also miss my mommy."

The "mommy" she referred to should be Emmeline.

Nora said, "But Jasmine is not your mommy. She just has a face like your mommy's."

Millie said, "But Auntie Jasmine said she was sent by Mommy to take care of me."

Nora could tell that Jasmine's words were a belief for Millie.

It was as if Emmeline was still with her.

"So, are you willing to leave Daddy, Mommy, Billy, and Samantha?" Nora asked.

Millie shook her head and replied, "No, Mommy, can I take Auntie Jasmine with me?"

Nora looked at Millie's bright eyes and sighed inwardly.

She had to admit Hugo was very shrewd.

He had Jasmine undergone plastic surgery to look like Emmeline, and it had captured Millie's heart.

Millie didn't want to stay here; she just didn't want to be separated from Jasmine, who looked like Emmeline.

But Jasmine was Hugo's mistress, and she wouldn't want to leave.

If Jasmine didn't leave, Millie naturally wouldn't leave either.

Nora patted Millie's little head and said, "I was just asking. You can stay wherever you want. I respect your wishes."

Millie's big eyes sparkled, asking, "Mommy, can't I take Auntie Jasmine with us?"

Nora said, "She probably won't want to leave because this is her hometown."

"No, Auntie Jasmine will want to go with us."

Millie pulled Nora to Jasmine to confirm.

"Auntie Jasmine, will you go with us?"

"Where to?" Jasmine asked.

"Back to Chrisland with us," Millie said.

Jasmine shook her head and replied, "My hometown is here. I won't leave."

Hearing this, Millie's lips quivered, and her eyes reddened.

"But I don't want to be separated from you, and I don't want to be separated from Daddy and Mommy."

Seeing her upset, Nora quickly said, "Millie, don't cry. Didn't I say I would respect your wishes?"

Millie looked at her with teary eyes. "But Mommy, are you leaving? I don't want to be separated from you."

Nora wiped her tears and confronted, "I am not leaving yet. I need to stay and treat Uncle Hugo."

Millie sniffled. "Is Uncle Hugo sick?"

"Yes."

"How long will he be sick?"

"That's not certain yet."

Millie lowered her head and whispered, "I want Uncle Hugo to get better soon, but I also don't want him to get better soon."
