Chapter 139 Can't Rest Easy Leaving You Alone

The two drove home, where Aaron and Jack were still engrossed in a chess game.

Three kids were upstairs, getting ready for bed, shepherded by Noe.

"Jack, we're back," Nora called out, glancing at Aaron, wondering why he hadn't left yet.

Jack and Aaron paused their game.

"Nora, is something wrong? Has Jenny been crying?" Jack noticed Jenny's swollen eyes and frowned.

"Jack, Jenny's not going back tonight; she'll stay at my place," Nora informed him and then told Jenny, "Go freshen up upstairs, Jenny. You can find pajamas; there are clean ones available."

Jenny nodded and headed upstairs without a word.

Once she was out of earshot, Jack asked urgently, "Nora, what exactly happened?"

Nora did not hide it from him. "Jenny and Paul broke up."

Jack's expression briefly revealed his shock.

Suddenly, he asked, "Why did they break up? Did Paul do something unforgivable to Jenny?"

Nora's rush towards Paul's location with her sister in tow surely meant she had uncovered a secret of Paul's.

"Yes, Paul cheated," Nora confirmed, then added with emphasis, "And the person he cheated with is a man."

Jack and Aaron fell silent.

"Nora, give it to me straight; what's going on? Does Paul like men?" Jack struggled to believe it.

Aaron was also looking at Nora, waiting for her to explain it clearly.

"Paul is into men," Nora stated. "I felt something was off, so I slipped something into his coffee earlier to confirm my suspicion. He went straight to his lover. Jenny has seen his true colors now."

Aaron felt a chill listening to her words. Recalling how Paul had kissed his fingers before leaving, he quickly grabbed some tissues from the table to wipe his hands; his brows knitted together in disgust.

Nora couldn't help but want to laugh at his reaction, but thinking of her dear friend held back her amusement.

"So, Paul was planning to marry Jenny, essentially using her as a beard to cover up the fact that he's not into women?" Anger had now taken over Jack's typically calm face.
"Yes, he's been deceiving Jenny," Nora stated.

Jack's chest heaved with emotion. "Nora, who is this guy Paul's into?"

"A male artist from Jenny's company goes by the name Kim."

"Kim? Why does that name sound so familiar?"

Aaron pondered, a flicker of recognition crossing his eyes.

He remembered they'd gone out for dinner—him, Nora, and the three kids. Out of the blue, Nora had asked Edric about Kim. Had she suspected Paul even back then?

"I'm gonna confront him!" Jack's face turned grim, ready to settle the score with Paul.

Nora quickly grasped his arm. "Jack, cool it, alright? Don't do anything rash."

"That bastard, duping my sister; I'll make sure he regrets it!" Jack seethed.

Aaron glanced at Nora's hand on his, his eyes narrowing in displeasure.

"Dr. Parker, and what do you plan to do? Give him a good beating?"

That was exactly what Jack was contemplating; he wanted to give Paul a piece of his mind physically.

"Jenny is my only sister. She'd been happy all her life until Paul cheated her blind. Am I just supposed to stand by and let her suffer?"

Aaron understood. "I get where you're coming from, but we're adults, and adults shouldn't resort to violence to solve their problems."

A beating might be satisfying, but it was far from the best solution.

Jack looked into Aaron's stoic face, and his anger began to subside.

"You're right; what's the point of beating him up? Making Paul live with regret—that's the real lesson he needs."

Jack took a moment to collect himself and turned to Nora. "Nora, Jenny must be feeling terrible. Please look after her and try to comfort her. I'm going to talk to my uncle."

Paul had prospered over the years, leveraging their Parker family connections. It was time he returned what didn't belong to him.

"Jack, I've got Jenny; don't worry about her. Drive safe and keep your emotions in check."

Seeing that Jack had calmed down, Nora cautioned him with care.

"Got it. I'll be off then."

Jack bid farewell to Nora, gave a curt nod to Aaron, and strode out.

Now, only Nora and Aaron remained in the living room.

Nora glanced at him. "You should head back. I'll come over later to treat your injury."

His presence felt foreign to her, prompting Aaron's gaze to deepen. "I'll wait and go with you."

"No need, what about Noe? You two go ahead."

"Nora, it's dark. I don't like the idea of you being alone."

A soft concern lingered in Aaron's dark eyes.
Nora's gaze lingered on his face for two seconds before shifting away. She couldn't let Aaron mesmerize her anymore!

"Nothing to worry about; this neighborhood is safe."

Just then, Noe came downstairs.

Nora looked at him. "Noe, can you escort Mr. Gordon home and make sure he's settled in for the night? That way, we can get straight to his treatment when I arrive."

Noe glanced at Aaron, saw that he didn't object, and nodded.

"Alright."

Aaron's dark eyes were steady as he temporarily suppressed the irritation in his heart.

Fine, he'd wait until she arrived to treat him and then ask what was bothering her.

Nora went upstairs to check on the three kids.

They were all playing in her master bedroom at the time.

Jenny was showering, and they were waiting for her to come out.

Seeing Nora approach, Samantha asked, "Mom, is Jenny going to stay over tonight?"

"Jenny's staying with us tonight," Nora replied.

"That's great! And what about Mr. Gordon?" Samantha asked with a blink of her big eyes.

"He went back home," Nora said with a slight falter in her smile.

A flicker of disappointment crossed Samantha's eyes. "Okay, so one piece of good news and one piece of bad."

Nora patted her little head. "You all stay good at home; I'm off to treat Mr. Gordon."

"Okay!"

The three kids chorused their acknowledgment.

Nora grabbed her essentials and then headed out.

Meanwhile, Aaron had just returned to his villa, and Noe was helping him into the washroom to freshen up. Aaron, soaking in the tub, furrowed his brow in dismay at Nora's distant attitude toward him. Had he upset her somehow, perhaps by showing her that horror movie?

Setting that thought aside momentarily, he picked up his phone from the side and dialed Edric's number. He needed to update Edric on the situation with Paul and Kim.

The phone connected, and Edric's lax voice came over the line.

"Aaron, what's up?"

"There's a situation."

Aaron briefly outlined the events to Edric.

A tone of disbelief tinged Edric's voice. "Aaron, are you serious? Jenny's boyfriend is gay? And his lover is Kim?"
