Chapter 899 She Looked Stunning Today
Zephyr helped Jane clean up the kitchen.
Jane was washing dishes and asked, "You're having dinner at Leonard's tonight, right?"
Zephyr's smile faded a bit. "Yeah."
"I'll go with you."
Zephyr looked surprised. "You want to come with me?"
"Yeah, I need to meet your parents eventually."
Jane kept washing dishes. "Since we're official, I should meet the Wright family."
At the mention of the Wright family, Zephyr's expression turned cold.
But he didn't argue. Instead, he said, "They probably won't be very nice to you, so be prepared."
"As long as we're on the same page, it won't bother me."
Jane paused. "So, Zephyr, drop the idea of pretending to be a couple. Our expressions will give us away, and we don't want them to notice anything."
Zephyr leaned against the cabinet, watching her. "Jane, did all you cops study psychology? You're so good with words."
Jane raised an eyebrow. "I'll take that as a compliment."
Zephyr smiled. "Not only are you good with words, but you're also shameless."
Jane smirked. "Thanks for the compliment."
Zephyr was speechless. Jane's skin was thicker than most.
"I'm going back for a bit," Jane said after cleaning up the kitchen.
Zephyr was puzzled. "Why?"
Jane replied, "It's our first time meeting your parents. I need to tidy up so I don't embarrass you."
Zephyr's expression turned indifferent. "No need, they're not important."
Jane laughed. "So it's okay if I look unkempt?"
"Yeah."
Jane chuckled. "Even so, I still need to tidy up. You'll be working at the Wright Group in the future, and as your girlfriend, I can't embarrass you. We can't lose in terms of presence."
Zephyr frowned. "I never said I was going to work at the Wright Group."
Jane said, "If you don't work there, how am I supposed to investigate him?"
Zephyr was silent for a moment, then understood. He nodded. "Okay, got it."
"Then I'll go now," Jane said.
"Need a ride?" Zephyr asked.
"No, you stay home and rest. I'll call you when I'm done, and you can pick me up."
Zephyr wanted to say he was fine and could go with her, but he stayed quiet. He was afraid Jane would tease him again.
"I'm leaving."
"Okay."
As the door closed, the house became quiet. Zephyr felt as if his heart had flown away with Jane. He smiled and shook his head, realizing that the loneliness after the bustle was the hardest to bear. He actually wished he could be with Jane every day.
Sighing, he took out his phone to call Jeremy. He had been missing for so long, Jeremy must be worried. He needed to let Jeremy know. Also, the lab affairs would rely more on Jeremy in the future.
Jane didn't go straight home; she first went to a brand store in the mall to pick out a few clothes, then went home. She hadn't been home for days, and a thick layer of dust had settled. Jane couldn't stand it, so she put on gloves and started cleaning the house.
Around four in the afternoon, she called Zephyr to come pick her up. Zephyr was waiting in his apartment for her call. When he finally got it, he unconsciously breathed a sigh of relief and hurried over.
Jane lived in a pretty average neighborhood.
When Zephyr pulled up to her building, he called her to come down.
Soon enough, Jane came down with a suitcase.
She knocked on Zephyr's car window. "Zephyr, can you pop the trunk for me?"
Zephyr was scrolling through his phone, and hearing Jane's voice, he instinctively responded.
When he got out and saw Jane's outfit, he was a bit stunned.
Jane was rocking a high-quality white shirt with light yellow suit pants.
The matching belt highlighted her slim, well-proportioned figure.
Her neat hair was pinned to one side, showing off her fair ear adorned with earrings.
She looked intellectual and elegant, more like a city lady than a cop.
Jane looked stunning today.
"What are you standing there for? Open the trunk."
Jane brought her suitcase to the back of the car and urged him again.
Zephyr snapped out of it and quickly opened the trunk for her.
Jane put the suitcase in and then hopped into the passenger seat.
Zephyr got in the driver's seat, glanced at her again, and started the car.
"So this is what you meant by tidying up?"
Jane looked down at her outfit and nodded.
She didn't ask for his opinion.
Zephyr couldn't help but grumble internally.
Then he heard Jane say, "Aren't you going to compliment me?"
Zephyr was speechless.
They really were in sync.
Zephyr couldn't help but smile, stubbornly saying, "You didn't amaze me, so what should I compliment you on?"
Jane glanced at him and asked, "Who was staring just now?"
Zephyr cleared his throat. "That was because you changed your outfit, and I didn't recognize you for a moment."
Jane raised an eyebrow. "It seems you don't love me enough or hate me enough. Otherwise, you'd recognize me even if I turned to ashes."
Zephyr couldn't help but laugh.
He suddenly realized that Jane wasn't cold at all in private.
Jane wasn't just not cold; she was quite playful.
Not only playful but also witty and humorous.
She made people laugh.
Being with her, his mood unconsciously improved a lot.
The car drove all the way to the Wright Manor.
The Wright Manor was in an upscale villa area.
It was full of standalone villas, each with a large yard surrounded by iron fences.
The gate slowly opened, and Zephyr drove in, parking in the lot on one side of the yard.
There were several luxury cars parked nearby.
Zephyr glanced at them, knowing that Hubert and Lloyd had already arrived.
His previously relaxed mood instantly became more restrained.
Zephyr turned to look at Jane, seeing her calm expression, which inexplicably reassured him.
"We're here," Zephyr said.
"Okay, let's get out."
Jane adjusted her clothes, and when Zephyr opened the door for her, she gracefully got out of the car.
Then she reached out and took his arm.
Zephyr's back unconsciously straightened a bit.
He composed himself and led Jane into the villa.
Besides Zephyr, Leonard had two sons and a daughter with the current hostess, Patricia.
Their daughter was already married, so she wasn't here today.
Present today were Hubert and Lloyd, along with their wives.
Hubert and his wife had a three-year-old daughter.
Lloyd and his wife didn't have kids yet.
The living room was lively, with everyone chatting and laughing with Patricia until Zephyr and Jane walked in, and the laughter abruptly stopped.
