Chapter 357 The Rabid Dog
Alex and Billy stopped walking. Billy scoffed, "Who told you not to wear a jacket?"
"But it's not cold inside," Samantha retorted, her voice as sweet as honey.Alex remained silent, preparing to shed his petite suit to drape it over her.The servant tailing them interjected promptly, "Alex, Billy, and Samantha, hold on; I'll fetch a coat for Samantha.""Okay," Alex responded with a nod.By this time, Ryan had already shrugged off his suit and draped it over Samantha."You two needn't remove your coats. I'm older and less susceptible to the cold," he stated. His attire consisted of a black suit, complemented by a dark red vest and a crisp white shirt underneath. With Samantha now donning the suit, he was left in his inner layers.Alex and Billy exchanged knowing glances, their sentiments towards Ryan turning positive, and chose to remain silent."Let's proceed, we shouldn't stand here and risk catching a cold," Ryan proposed."Okay," Samantha agreed, her smile radiant, now wearing the small suit.Upon reaching the backyard, they encountered a large dog tethered to a tree."Whose dog is this? It's adorable!" Samantha exclaimed, scampering over with her tiny legs.Billy scrutinized the formidable beast before him, his brows furrowing. "Samantha, are you certain this dog is adorable?""Oh, it's more endearing than the dogs from our old village," Samantha replied, her voice bubbling with laughter.Alex's brows knitted together. "Is this a wolf?"Its massive size certainly gave the impression of a wolf."No, this is an Alaskan dog, bearing a striking resemblance to a wolf, hence the intimidating aura. However, Alaskan dogs are quite docile and possess a pleasant temperament. They don't bite without provocation, and they particularly enjoy interacting with children," Ryan clarified, his voice steady."Oh, I see!" Alex and Billy responded in unison, their confusion finally dispelled."Ryan, you're quite knowledgeable," Samantha praised."Well, I learned from magazines," Ryan admitted, a smug grin playing on his lips.He scanned the area and spotted a bowl of dog food on the ground. "There's food here; let's feed it," he suggested."Excellent, I want to feed it too!" Samantha's interest was piqued."I'll accompany you," Ryan offered. They both scooped up a handful of dog food and approached the dog.Meanwhile, Alex and Billy observed from a distance, unmoving. As Samantha neared the colossal creature, a wave of fear washed over her."Ryan, it won't bite, will it?""Don't worry; it's leashed. Let me feed it first," Ryan reassured her, extending his hand to offer the dog food. The dog cocked its head, grunted a few times, and then began eating from Ryan’s hand."See, isn't it well-behaved?" Ryan allowed the dog to eat while reaching out his other hand to pat its head.Samantha's fear dissipated, and she followed Ryan's lead, feeding the dog and then patting its head."Samantha, I'll fetch more dog food," Ryan announced."Okay," Samantha responded, continuing to stroke the dog's head. In a childish tone, she asked, "What's your name? I'm Samantha; you're so endearing."The dog's nose twitched, it sneezed, and then shook its fur, displaying signs of restlessness.Samantha blinked. "It's windy here. Are you catching a cold from the wind? Would you like to borrow my clothes?"As she spoke, she began to remove her coat."Samantha, don't undress. You might catch a cold," Billy warned, beginning to unbutton his suit. Alex glanced at him but chose not to object.
In that instant, the dog heaved a heavy sigh from its nostrils, its agitation palpable. Upon returning with more dog food, Ryan abruptly noticed the dog's bared, sharp teeth. Taken aback, he cried out, "Samantha, run!" However, Samantha remained unmoved. Alex and Billy, having heard Ryan's shout, caught sight of the dog's gaping maw, poised to strike. They sprang into action, rushing over to intervene. One of them yanked Samantha away, while the other aimed a kick at the dog. Caught off guard by Alex's forceful pull, Samantha teetered, her expression one of bewilderment. Just then, the dog released a howl reminiscent of a wolf's cry, broke free from its leash, and lunged at the closest target, Billy. "Billy, be careful!" Ryan warned. Billy, already aware of the danger, rolled out of the way, narrowly avoiding the dog's assault. The dog, teeth still bared, redirected its attack towards Alex and Samantha. "Alex, Samantha, run!" Ryan scooped up the dog food dish from the ground and hurled it at the dog before sprinting off with Alex, dragging Samantha along. Ignoring the scattered dog food, the dog gave chase, its sights set on Alex and Samantha. Seeing the dog closing in, Ryan yelled, "Go get an adult! I've had taekwondo training; I can handle this." By this point, the dog had caught up and lunged at Ryan, jaws wide open. Ryan skillfully sidestepped, evading the dog's attack. Regaining his breath, Billy instructed Alex, "Alex, take Samantha inside and find Mommy and Uncle Gordon. I'll stay here and help." Alex wanted to argue that as the elder sibling, he should be the one to stay, but Billy was already charging at the dog. Swallowing his protest, Alex led Samantha into the banquet hall in search of help. Meanwhile, in a nearby woodland, young Aiden of the Turner family watched the unfolding chaos through binoculars, his face alight with excitement. "Yesss! Bite them! Tear those little brats apart!" Indeed, he was the one who had brought the Alaskan dog. He had laced the dog food with a substance that could drive the ordinarily docile Alaskan dog into a frenzy. He had hoped the dog would act as an outlet for his anger and teach those three children a lesson. However, two of them had managed to escape almost immediately, much to his disappointment. Still, he reasoned, it would be satisfying enough if even one of them learned their lesson. A rabid dog couldn't discriminate; the children would get what they deserved if they were bitten to death! At that moment, Ryan and Billy, armed with a rope and a dog food dish respectively, were fending off the crazed dog. Suddenly, the Alaskan dog lunged at Billy, jaws agape. Ryan reacted swiftly, yanking Billy out of harm's way. The Alaskan dog, panting heavily, swiveled its head, its eyes ablaze with madness, and sank its teeth into Ryan's arm. Caught off guard, Ryan didn't have time to dodge and let out a scream. The drug coursing through the Alaskan dog's system continued to take effect, causing it to shake violently as it clamped down on Ryan's arm. "Stupid dog, you bit the wrong person! Why didn't you bite that little brat!" Aiden, observing the spectacle through his binoculars, scowled and cursed, "Who is that? He's ruining things for me!" If it hadn't been for his sudden intervention, his dog would have bitten that little brat by now! At that moment, Billy noticed the Alaskan husky biting onto Ryan and panicked. He seized a rope and began to strike the dog. The dog yelped in pain, released its grip on Ryan, and growled as it turned its attention to Billy. Billy spun around and bolted, but in his haste, he tripped and tumbled to the ground. As he watched the dog spring towards him, his heart plummeted, and he instinctively shut his eyes, crossing his arms in a futile attempt to shield himself.
