Chapter 503 Unless You Promise to Marry Me
"Because I want to accompany my wife." Matthew's face was filled with pain and guilt, saying, "It's my fault. She's gone, and I can't live alone in this world."
So, that's the reason? He's too devoted!
Nora furrowed her brows slightly. While she admired his devotion, she couldn't fully agree with his idea.
"Mr. Jones, I understand how you feel. But have you thought about what would happen to Erin if you were gone? She's still so young. Without her parents' care, what will become of her in the future?"
Matthew glanced at her, and gradually, his expression calmed.
"That's why I've been living in agony. Once I've settled things for her, then I'll go."
Nora was still pondering about the poison, not noticing the meaningful look on his face.
"Mr. Jones, even though I'm just an onlooker, I feel compelled to advise you. If your wife knew about your thoughts, she wouldn't approve. Before she passed, she left your love child, hoping that you would be there for Erin as she grows up."
She paused and continued, "You said you would settle things for Erin and then go. How do you plan to settle it? Are you thinking of handing her over to your parents for upbringing?"
"You should know that no matter what, grandparents can never replace the love of biological parents. Moreover, Erin already has autism. If she loses you too, do you think she won't be deeply traumatized?"
Matthew gazed at her intently and opened his mouth, "So..."
At that moment, his phone rang.
Matthew swallowed his words, saying, "Please wait; I need to take this call."
Nora nodded, then picked up her juice and took a sip. She was still contemplating Matthew's words.
From his words, she could infer that this man probably came from a good family.
But did that mean he could find a cure?
As long as he could find a cure, she could detoxify him. He could live.
But how could she persuaded him not to think about dying?
On the other side, Matthew answered the call.
"What's the matter?" he asked.
"Mr. Jones, there were a lot of reporters outside just now. They wanted to disturb you, but we managed to drive them away."
After hearing this, Matthew narrowed his brown eyes. Then he got up and walked to the window.
"Who brought the reporters here?" he added.
"It was a woman named Suzy who seemed to be causing trouble for Dr. Smith inside."
Suzy?
Matthew sneered. "Go and give her a warning!"
"Yes."
Soon, in a private room on the third floor of the Seaton Club, Suzy had just finished socializing with a group of people and was starting to wait to see Nora make a fool of herself when several black-suited bodyguards burst in.
One of the bodyguards grabbed Suzy and headed straight for the restroom.
Suzy was bewildered, and she shouted, "Who are you? What do you want? Let go of me!"
The others watched in shock. When they realized what was happening, they tried to intervene, but several burly bodyguards blocked them.
These people had witnessed significant events before and knew that these bodyguards were not to be messed with.
So they dared not help and could only watch helplessly as Suzy was dragged into the restroom.
Suzy screamed and cursed, but the bodyguards ignored her. One of them filled the sink with water and then pressed Suzy's head into it.
Suzy struggled and choked on the water. It wasn't until she was almost suffocating that the bodyguard pulled her head up by her hair, allowing her to breathe.
After she took a few breaths, the bodyguard pressed her head back into the water.
This torture went on several times, leaving Suzy on the brink of death. Only then did the bodyguard release her. He threw the now-weak Suzy to the ground.
"Ms. Hamilton, don't provoke my master and his esteemed guests. Otherwise, next time, it won't be as simple as drinking water for you!"
Suzy's face was pale with fear, her mind in chaos.
As she watched the bodyguard leave, she finally sighed in relief. She got up from the ground, her body trembling uncontrollably.
This man was terrifying.
His master?
Who is his master?
Could it be Matthew?
She had intended to have her assistant anonymously leak the information, exposing Nora dating Aaron and other men behind his back. After Aaron lost face, he would surely not marry her.
But she didn't expect that the news hadn't been leaked yet, and she almost got herself killed.
How did Matthew find out so quickly that it was her doing?
Was his power that strong?
Nora, that despicable woman, already had Aaron. How did she manage to get involved with such a powerful person?
After finishing the call in the presidential suite, Matthew was sitting elegantly on the sofa, sipping his coffee, and returning his expression to calm.
Nora looked at him and thought about the unfinished topic. She spoke, "Mr. Jones, you must come from a good family, right? You sent someone to find a cure. Once you find it, I can detoxify you, and you can live."
Matthew glanced at her and then set down his coffee.
"If you promise to marry me, I will go find the cure," he promised.
Nora was surprised by his words and instantly furrowed her brows.
"Mr. Jones, this is not a joking matter." she insisted.
"I'm not joking."
Matthew replied and smiled slightly. "Dr. Smith, Erin really likes you and wants you to be her Mommy."
Nora was speechless.
She suddenly thought of Aaron, who must have sensed Matthew's intentions toward her, so he didn't want her to contact Matthew again.
"Mr. Jones, your life and death are your own decisions. If you can leave Erin alone in this world without feeling any pain, then it's up to you." Nora refused because she would never agree to such an absurd request.
Matthew was neither her relative nor her friend. As a doctor, she had given her advice, which was already more than enough.
It's just a pity that Erin had an unreliable father.
Nora didn't want to stay any longer, so she stood up and said, "I've said everything I needed to. I'll be leaving now. Alex, let's go!"
Nora turned and walked toward the inner room to call Alex to go home together.
"Dr. Smith, please have a meal before you leave," Matthew called out.
"No, thank you," Nora refused decisively.
Matthew smiled and said, "Dr. Smith, for Erin's sake, please stay and have a meal."
Nora's footsteps paused, and she turned to look at him, suggesting, "Mr. Jones, if you truly care about Erin, then take my advice and go find the cure."
After speaking, she walked toward the inner room where Alex and Erin had already played with the Rubik's Cube several times.
Alex expected Erin's skills to improve only a little overnight.
During their competition, they tied once, and she won twice!
He only won against her once!
He felt quite embarrassed!
Alex had a stiff expression, feeling a bit awkward.
When he heard Nora calling him, he said tensely, "I'll let you win today. We can play again next time."
Erin smiled but remained silent for a moment, then said, "Okay."
She actually spoke again!
When Alex saw Erin's lovely smile and bright eyes, his face inexplicably warmed.
He didn't know if it was because he had embarrassed himself today or for some other reason.
