Chapter 918 I Was the One Tempting Him

Hearing Emilio, Jane's face got serious.

"Emilio, you're wrong. I've been the one chasing him. I want to marry him."

Emilio looked shocked. "Are you serious?"

Jane nodded. "Yes. Zephyr got captured by Matteo because of me. He hurt his hand saving me and might not be able to do surgery anymore. Do you know how that made me feel?"

Emilio frowned. "So you want to marry him to repay him?"

Jane shook her head. "No, it's not like that. I genuinely fell for him. I don't know when it happened, but I don't care. Being with him makes me happy and vigorous."

"He's reserved, deep, and gentle. He doesn't talk much, but I recently found out he's funny. Maybe I bring out the best in him? This shows I can be a good wife, and I'm proud of that."

Jane looked at Zephyr with tender eyes.

Emilio's face darkened. "Jane, is this really you?"

Jane glanced at him. "Yes, it's me. A side you've never seen. Zephyr brings out my potential too. We're a perfect match."

Seeing Jane's smile, Emilio felt a mix of emotions and couldn't speak.

After a while, he said, "Fine, go ahead and be lovestruck. I'll wait for the day you regret it."

He was really frustrated.

Not just frustrated, but jealous, regretful, and disappointed.

All these emotions swirled in Emilio's heart.

He had never seen this side of Jane.

Jane's eyes sparkled when she looked at Zephyr.

At this moment, Jane wasn't the cold cop he knew but a gentle woman.

A gentle woman only for Zephyr.

Frustrated, Emilio left dejectedly.

Watching him walk away, Jane's eyes dimmed a bit, and she smiled faintly.

Emilio should understand her feelings now.

He wouldn't have unrealistic expectations anymore.

Taking a deep breath, Jane looked at Zephyr.

He was chatting with someone else, still gentle and calm.

It made her want to help him close this business deal right away.

Jane didn't walk over immediately but looked for Aaron.

She didn't see Aaron in the banquet hall.

Remembering what Nora had told her, to keep an eye on him, Jane started searching.

After a while, she still couldn't find Aaron.

Squinting, Jane walked to a corner, took out her phone, and dialed Aaron's number.

The phone rang twice before someone answered.

"Who's this?"

It was a woman's voice.

Jane's heart sank a bit. "This is Jane. I need to speak with Mr. Gordon. Please have him take the call."

"Oh, it's Ms. Harvey. Mr. Gordon is in the restroom and can't come to the phone right now."

Jane squinted her eyes. "Is it the restroom on the first floor of the banquet hall?"

"Yes."

"Okay, got it."

Jane hung up and walked towards the restroom.

Gabriella was standing outside the restroom, holding Aaron's coat.

Aaron's phone was in his coat pocket, so Gabriella answered it.

Soon, Aaron came out of the restroom and turned on the faucet to wash his hands.

Gabriella smiled. "Mr. Gordon, someone called you. I answered so they wouldn't wait too long. Hope you don't mind."

Aaron glanced at her, turned off the faucet, and dried his hands with paper towels. "Who called?"

"It was Jane, the one who greeted you earlier."

A hint of surprise flashed in Aaron's eyes. "Did she say what she wanted?"

"No."

Gabriella's eyes shifted. "But I noticed she seemed a bit cold towards me in the banquet hall. Maybe she thinks you like me and she's secretly in love with you, so she treats me that way?"

Aaron looked displeased. "What nonsense are you talking about?"

Gabriella laughed. "Are you mad? Why are you so easy to tease?"

"Let's go."

"It's chilly outside. Put on your coat before you go, or you'll catch a cold."

Gabriella was about to help him with his coat when Jane's voice rang out.

"Mr. Gordon."

From a distance, Jane saw Gabriella about to help Aaron with his coat, and her expression turned colder.

A business partner helping a married man with his coat—this behavior was too intimate.

And Aaron didn't seem to mind.

Could it be that Aaron was also a hypocrite?

"Officer Harvey, you were looking for me?"

Aaron took the coat from Gabriella and put it on.

Jane said, "Mr. Gordon, you don't need to call me Officer Harvey. Just call me by my name."

Aaron nodded. "Do you need something?"

Jane glanced at Gabriella. "Are you two about to leave?"

"Yes."

"Mr. Gordon, can I have a word with you?"

Aaron raised an eyebrow and said to Gabriella, "You go wait in the car."

Gabriella glanced at Jane and smiled. "Alright, Ms. Harvey, goodbye."

After saying goodbye, she walked away gracefully.

Jane watched Gabriella's slender figure, her expression indifferent.

"Mr. Gordon, I've always thought you were a well-behaved man. People say I'm a cop with keen insight, and I think my intuition is right."

Aaron looked at her, his brown eyes narrowing slightly.

He was also a perceptive person.

Aaron glanced in the direction Gabriella had left and said, "Jane, are you warning me not to cheat on Nora?"

Jane asked in return, "Would you?"

Aaron smiled. "Jane, don't misunderstand. Gabriella is just a business partner. There's nothing between us. Besides, Nora knows about her, and they get along well."

Aaron looked sincere, and Jane actually believed in his character.

"I hope I'm overthinking it. But I noticed Ms. Costa is very attentive to you. I'm afraid others might see it differently."

"Mr. Gordon, you're not an ordinary person. If someone deliberately took photos of you and Gabriella together and sent them to Dr. Smith, it could cause misunderstandings between you and your wife."

Aaron understood. Jane was warning him that he was getting too close to Gabriella.

"Thanks for the reminder. My relationship with Nora is strong and not easily shaken by rumors. But I'll be mindful of my words and actions to avoid misunderstandings."
