Chapter 132 The Socially Clueless Mr. Gordon
The close-up of this horrific transformation made it seem all too real to the viewers.
Nora was terrified.
With a scream, she hurled herself into Aaron's embrace.
He wrapped his arms around her instinctively, comforting her with a gentle voice, "Don't be afraid; I'm here."
Buried in the warmth of his open chest, their skins lightly touching, both shuddered at the contact.
Nora snapped back to reality a beat too late, the light scent of his body washing over her heart.
She quickly sat up straight, feeling inexplicably thirsty.
As the warmth of his proximity faded, leaving a cool absence, Aaron's eyes narrowed slightly, a hint of regret flashing through them.
"Recovering so quickly? Not in the mood to lean in a little longer?" he teased.
"Thomas, did you do that on purpose?" Nora turned off the projector and accused him.
Aaron wore a face of innocence.
"No, I asked for your preference, and you said any movie would do. So, I picked one at random."
Nora was speechless.
"Nora, if you don't like horror movies, we can switch to something else," Aaron suggested, barely concealing his amusement as he reached for the remote.
"No need. Thomas, have Noe help you stretch or do it yourself. I need to get back and start prepping for dinner," she declined briskly and turned to leave.
With a slight furrow between his brows, Aaron called after her, "Nora, I can have someone else prepare dinner tonight."
"No, I'll do it myself," she answered without turning back and leaving the home theater.
Aaron watched the door, his face clouded with concern. "Did she scare herself away? That's silly. Why did I let Nora watch a horror movie? We should've watched a romance!"
Upstairs, by the window, was a sitting area where three kids were playing.
"Is mom watching a movie with Mr. Gordon?" Samantha inquired.
"Yes," Alex replied.
"Why didn't Mr. Gordon invite us to watch with them?" Samantha pouted, clearly displeased.
Alex reasoned, "Don't you want Mom and Mr. Gordon to get to know each other better?"
Billy added, "Yeah, to build a relationship, they must spend some time alone."
Samantha exclaimed, "Right, then we won't be the third wheel," feeling encouraged by this thought.
Both brothers nodded in agreement.
Just then, Nora's voice echoed faintly from the staircase. "Noe, where are the kids? I'm taking them home now."
Hearing her words, they were taken aback.
Alex wondered, "Why did mom finish watching the movie so quickly?"
"And it hasn't been that long," added Billy.
Samantha's nose crinkled as she pulled at her brothers and said, "I don't want to go back yet."
She wanted to play more at Mr. Gordon's house and not leave so soon.
"Let's find a room to nap in quickly." Billy, with a twinkle in his eye, suggested a plan.
"Let's do that," Samantha agreed, tugging Alex to follow her lead.
After picking the lock, three kids sneaked into Aaron's room and scampered onto the bed.
Outside.
Noe and the three kids were on the same page.
"Was the movie really that short? How did it end so fast?"
"They were just playing over here; they must have gone to play somewhere else. I'll go look for them."
Noe searched around and found his way to Aaron's room.
At that moment, the three kids pretended to sleep on the bed.
Seeing this, Noe quickly withdrew.
"Nora, the kids have dozed off. Maybe we should wait for them to wake up before leaving."
Nora was speechless.
"How can these three sleep in someone else's house?"
"I'll go grocery shopping then and pick them up later."
"Okay."
With that, Noe agreed and left with Nora.
Back in the room, the three kids opened their eyes once they heard the silence outside.
"Mom's gone," Samantha said.
"I heard."
Alex replied disdainfully, a glint of scorn in his big eyes.
"What's up with Mr. Gordon? He had the chance, but he let Mom leave so soon!"
Downstairs.
Aaron spoke up as Nora was about to leave, "Let Noe drive you to the grocery store."
"That's alright; I can manage it myself," Nora declined.
"It's either Noe goes with you, or I do. You choose," Aaron asserted.
Nora fell silent.
This man was as overbearing as ever.
"Then, I'll have to trouble Noe."
"No trouble at all."
Quick to respond, Noe then accompanied Nora to the store.
As their car left the villa, Mary's vehicle pulled in.
Meanwhile, Aaron was in his bedroom, being interrogated by the trio on his bed.
"Mr. Gordon, what movie were you and Mom watching in the screening room?"
"Mr. Gordon, why did Mom leave so soon?"
"Dad, we didn't disturb you and Mom's alone time, so why did she leave?"
Aaron cleared his throat at the childish voices.
"My mistake; I watched a horror movie with your mom and scared her off."
The three kids fell silent.
"Mr. Gordon, are you crazy? Why would you watch a horror movie with Mom?" Alex looked at him with disdain.
Billy nodded vigorously.
Samantha huddled closer to Billy, noticeably scared, "Horror movies are terrifying."
Aaron scratched his brow, "I'll learn from this for next time."
"Dad, I want to be able to call you that in front of Mom, too," Samantha whispered.
Aaron listened to her calls and thought she was cute.
He turned to the brothers, "Hey, Alex and Billy, you wanna call me like Samantha does?"
The brothers shot him a look of disdain.
"Mr. Gordon," Alex said with a hint of sass, "Samantha's as silly as you are, but we're not. Let's talk when you've won over our mom."
"Could a low EQ guy like Mr. Gordon win Mom over?" Alex was skeptical.
"It's not like Dad and I are clueless! Come on, Dad, come up for a nap with us!" Samantha reached out for a hug.
"Sure."
Disfavored by his stepsons, Aaron slowly got up from his wheelchair and climbed into the bed, relieved that, at the very least, he still held a place in Samantha's heart. Otherwise, he might just be forced to step out of the game.
Instead of sending him away, the boys, with bright eyes, snuggled up to him on either side, just like they had done the last time.
"I'll find us a bedtime story."
Knowing the kids loved their bedtime stories, Aaron pulled out his phone, found a children's book, and began to read aloud. Soon, all three kids were asleep.
He looked at their cherubic faces, his eyes filled with tenderness.
Then, someone knocked at the door.
"Young master, Mrs. Gordon is here."
