Chapter 327 She Won the Bet
As Hollis watched his movements, her fingers tightened unexpectedly.
‘If he drank it, everything would be over!’ Hollis thought.
Beside them, Quinn glanced over instinctively and noticed the odd look in her eyes, causing her to pause momentarily from sipping her soup.
Following the direction of Hollis's gaze, she looked across at Aaron and her face suddenly changed.
"Aaron!" Quinn yelled, abruptly, still trying to remain composed.
Aaron was about to sip his soup when he heard her call. He stopped and looked up. "What's up?" he asked.
Quinn glanced at the bowl of sweet soup in front of him and burst into a smile.
"Don't you not like sweet soups much? Share some with me, so it doesn’t go to waste if you can’t finish it," she suggested
Without waiting for a reply, she took Aaron's soup bowl and poured a bit of the sweet soup into her own.
Aaron looked at her with a flicker of skepticism in his eyes. Sure, he didn't really care for sweet soups, but wasn't Quinn's behavior a bit abrupt?
After pouring herself a small serving, Quinn cheerily handed the bowl back to Aaron. Then with a spoon, she stirred the soup’s surface and brought a spoonful to her lips.
Hollis's expression changed wildly as she watched this unfold. She had not expected Quinn to make such an unexpected move!
Then Quinn slapped the soup spoon from Quinn's grip, grabbed her bowl, and smashed it violently to the ground. Everyone turned to look at her, and the living room fell eerily silent, except for the sound of the shattered soup bowl.
Baldwin was bewildered, "Mom..."
"Stop! No one drinks the soup!" Hollis looked at Aaron and shouted sharply.
Aaron frowned and set the soup spoon he had raised to his mouth back down.
Hollis looked at Aaron, then at Quinn, and yelled, "Quinn, ever since he moved in, you've been flirting with him right in front of me. And now you're sharing food with him! You shameless woman, do you think I'm dead?"
Quinn pursed her lips, "I wasn't, I just think of him as a brother."
"Think of him as a brother? More like a lover, right?" Hollis snorted and then turned to Aaron.
"Aaron, ever since you moved in, I've been holding back. But now, I can’t take this anymore. Get out, get out right now!" Hollis shouted.
Kick him out now? Over a bowl of sweet soup? What was this woman thinking?
Nora was also incredulous, "Mrs. Brown..."
"Nora, don't say anything. I just really don't approve of you being with him," Hollis cut off Nora's words, speaking up abruptly.
Nora opened her mouth, but seeing the rigid expression on Hollis's face, she knew that whatever she said probably wouldn't be heard.
She glanced at Aaron and pursed her lips.
Silent for a moment, Aaron stood up, pulling Nora to her feet, "Since Mrs. Brown doesn't welcome me, Nora and I might as well leave."
Hollis stared at him, "You leave, Nora stays."
Aaron wrapped his arm around Nora's waist, "Nora is my girlfriend. Wherever I go, naturally she follows."
Nora didn't make a sound but looked over at Quinn. Quinn didn't speak either, only offering Nora a sympathetic smile.
From the side, Baldwin frowned deeply, "Mom..."
"Shut it!" Hollis scolded.
Baldwin looked at her forbidding expression, his gaze falling on the bowl of sweet soup on the ground, a flash of something in his eyes.
His mother erupting like this was...
Mary watched Nora and Aaron packing upstairs, sighing softly to herself as she bent to clean up the mess on the floor.
It had been so close!
Aaron should be thankful for Quinn.
The lady voiced her distaste for Quinn, but in her heart, she'd already accepted her. Otherwise, she wouldn't have knocked over the bowl of soup earlier and then used it as an opportunity for Aaron to leave.
If Aaron was out of her sight, she wouldn't hurt him again. As for whether others might plot against him, that was something he'd have to look out for himself.
And Quinn, she was indeed a clever woman. The way she acted earlier, she must have guessed something, deliberately probing at the lady.
Fortunately, the lady's heart had been swayed by her.
Upstairs, Nora finished packing with a sense of resignation. "I don't understand why Mrs. Brown has such animosity towards you."
Aaron wrapped his arm around her waist again, "Is it not because you're too much in demand?"
Nora blinked, "Really? The rage earlier, was it a misunderstanding about you and Quinn?"
"That's just because she's always wanted you as her daughter-in-law, so she took the chance to lash out," Aaron explained.
It seemed to make sense.
Nora was partly convinced but still felt there was something odd about Hollis today.
"Where do we go now?" she asked.
"We'll stay at a hotel for now." Aaron tugged at his suitcase, "I've got a villa in Lindwood City, but it's not often lived in. Tomorrow, I'll have Frederic arrange for someone to clean it, and we'll move in there in the evening."
Nora glanced at him, "You've got property here too?"
Aaron hummed in agreement, "My family and the Hamilton family go way back. The villa neighborhood I live in was developed by the Hamilton Group. At that time, Kenneth insisted that I keep a suite."
Hearing this, Nora nodded in understanding.
"Oh, it's like the Hamilton family’s house in Houston. Star River Bay was developed by the Gordon Group, and the Hamilton family also kept a suite there, right? All to facilitate Suzy and you getting to know each other better, isn’t it?" she stated.
Aaron raised an eyebrow, lifting her chin, "Jealous?"
Nora slapped his hand away, “I’m not that bored.”
Aaron chuckled softly, pulling his luggage, "Then let’s head out."
Nora followed behind him, eyeing his tall figure, and suddenly blurted out, "Did Suzy ever stay in that house?"
Aaron looked at her silently.
‘And yet the little lady still says she's not jealous?’ He tried to stifle his laughter, wrapping his arm around her slender waist, his face full of affection, "Don’t worry, you're the first lady of the house to move in."
Nora coughed lightly, feigning composure, "I was just asking."
Aaron struggled to hold back laughter, "Sure, in one ear and out the other. I won’t tease you."
Nora bit her red lip, playfully hitting him.
Aaron's laughter was radiant, but soon he collected himself and went downstairs with Nora.
There was no one in the living room downstairs.
The waiting Frederic took their luggage, frowning, he hadn’t expected that late at night, the two masters would be kicked out.
"Let's go," said Aaron.
"Mr. Gordon, where to?" Frederic asked.
Aaron was about to suggest a nearby hotel for the night when Nora interjected, "Let's go to the Hilton."
Aaron gave her a look, instantly catching on.
Anticipating an evening of compelling drama, they decided to stay over and witness the scene firsthand.
"Aaron, Nora." Quinn approached from a distance, "Sorry, I couldn't keep you."
Aaron replied, "No problem. Nora and I can have our own little world. But considering how she feels about you, are you sure you want to bend over backwards?"
Quinn flashed a coquettish smile. "Aaron, I've told you, it's always darkest before the break of dawn. Believe in my charm."
Aaron had no comment.
Nora looked at her, nodding her head, "Quinn, I believe it, too. You'll surely win Mrs. Brown's heart completely."
Quinn thought to herself that her future mother-in-law had already accepted her! Because she had just won a bet!
Surely, something had been slipped into Aaron's soup.
Recalling that moment, she couldn't afford to think too much; she could only gamble whether Hollis would harm her along with Aaron.
Fortunately, her efforts over the past days had not been in vain, and Hollis had shown mercy, sparing her harm.
So, she'd say that she was Aaron's lucky star. And she expects to be the maid of honor at their wedding for all the trouble she went through saving them.
