Chapter 750 Did Women Really Need to Get Married?

Zephyr glanced at Jane, reflecting on her act of playing his girlfriend, a hint of amusement flickering in his eyes.

"Why do you know I'm not interested in her? Maybe I am interested," he said.

Jane blurted out, "Because you already like someone else."

But Sandy was already someone else's wife!

The smile on Zephyr's face froze for a moment, the atmosphere becoming noticeably awkward.

Jane coughed lightly, feeling a bit embarrassed, saying, "Well, I didn't mean anything by it. I just felt that you and that girl just now weren't a good match. You deserve someone better, so I intervened."

Zephyr looked at her and smiled slightly. "Thank you for helping me out of that situation."

Jane waved her hand. "You don't need to thank us; just consider it a kind gesture."

With that, she got up to leave.

Nora watched the two of them, her eyes flickering slightly. "Dr. Wright, we haven't eaten yet. How about having a meal together?"

Zephyr hesitated for a moment. "Sure, I'll treat you this time; consider it a thank you."

It didn't matter who paid.

What was important was giving Zephyr and Jane a chance to get to know each other!

Nora smiled, and without much formality, the three of them sat down at the same table.

Nora had the waiter set another place setting and ordered a few more dishes.

She looked at the refined Zephyr and poured him a cup of coffee.

"Dr. Wright, your blind date didn't go well this time. Your father will probably introduce you to more girls," Nora said.

Zephyr sighed, "Probably."

Nora glanced at Jane and teased, "It's a coincidence; you're both on blind dates. Why not pair up!"

The two remained silent.

Could they really be a good match?

Jane smiled. "I'm not like Dr. Wright. My family isn't pressuring me to get married, and I'm not in a rush to tie the knot."

Zephyr looked at her and added, "A man shouldn't get married until he's ready. I'm not even thirty yet, so I'm not in a hurry to get married, either."

Nora looked at Jane, and then Zephyr teasingly said, "I can see that you two are quite compatible; even your thoughts align!"

"Dr. Smith!"

They both called her out.

Nora chuckled. "Alright, enough of that. Let's eat."

The three of them fell silent and began to eat.

Midway through the meal, Zephyr's phone rang.

He glanced at his phone, seeing that it was a call from his father.

It was probably time for a reckoning.

"Sorry, I need to take this call."

As Zephyr walked away, Nora continued to extol him in Jane's presence.

"Dr. Wright is truly one of the few good men I've met."

Jane looked at her and said, "Dr. Smith, you don't need to impress me. I've seen enough."

Nora smiled. "It seems my persuasion skills aren't up to par yet. Otherwise, I would have convinced you."

Jane fell silent for a moment. "Do women really need to get married?"

Nora blinked and replied, "If you meet the wrong person, staying single can be fulfilling, free from the troubles that marriage can bring."

"But if one day you meet a man you truly love and who loves you back, you'll find that marriage can be a very joyful thing."

This was Nora's true story.

After a failed marriage, Nora swore she would never marry again.

But fate had other plans, and Aaron brought endless joy into her life.

Though they hadn't married yet, she had already envisioned a lifetime of happiness with Aaron.

"It seems Mr. Gordon is a good man for you," Jane said, looking at Nora's sweet expression.

Nora didn't deny it, simply nodding.

After a pause, she added, "I believe Dr. Wright is also a man worth entrusting a lifetime to."

Jane laughed. "Dr. Smith, you don't need to sell him to me. Let me discover his goodness on my own time."

Nora chuckled. "Fair enough. His virtues will reveal themselves to you in due course."

Jane shrugged. "I hope that day never comes."

Nora looked puzzled. "Why?"

Jane replied, "Because I only uncover cases. I don't want to discover any virtues in him."

Nora chuckled at her. "Officer Jane, your mind is always on work."

"I can't help it; I'm a workaholic."

"By the way, what was your mission last night that required you to dress like that?"

"It's classified."

In a corner, Zephyr listened to Leonard's angry voice on the phone, moving away slightly.

As expected, he was being scolded by Leonard.

"You have a girlfriend now; why didn't you say so earlier? Zephyr, let me tell you, as a descendant of the Wright family, I don't want you to marry a commoner. If your marriage doesn't benefit the family in any way, then..." Leonard said angrily.

"Then you would regard me as no longer your son," Zephyr spoke expressionlessly, finishing Leonard's sentence for him.

His father responded, "As long as you understand."

Zephyr gripped his phone tightly. "Dad, I never intended to be a descendant of the Wright family in the first place. You can consider yourself as never having a son like me."

Since he was young, he had never experienced fatherly love from Leonard, and he had been doing just fine.

Now, Leonard was only bringing him back for the sale of family's interests.

He was past the age of yearning for paternal love and didn't expect any affection from him.

"Zephyr, you should know what's good for you. I'm trying to find you a woman with a good background for your own good. Do you know that if you don't have a strong family backing in the future, your brothers and sisters will look down on you!"

His father's tone softened a bit, imbued with a trace of sorrow, as though all he said was for Zephyr's own good.

Zephyr sneered. "Let them look down on me. I don't need their approval."

Zephyr had no intention of building relationships with his so-called brothers and sisters.

He didn't want to enter their circle, engage in power struggles for the family head position, and be hypocritical with them.

"You!"

"Dad, do you have anything else to say? If not, I'll hang up."

Zephyr didn't want to say more and ended the call directly.

Standing quietly in the corner, Zephyr heard the laughter of the guests but felt no joy.

He sighed softly, composed himself, and walked out of the corner.

His gaze fell on Jane and Nora sitting face to face. Seeing the smile on Jane's face, he softened a bit, his mood inexplicably brightening.

Suddenly, a thought crossed his mind.

If he had to get married, he might as well choose Jane.

Zephyr's heart skipped a beat, quickly halting that thought.

He couldn't believe he had considered asking Jane to be his girlfriend.

Jeremy and Nora were probably influencing him!
