Chapter 219 Pragmatic Man

Three pairs of bright, black eyes looked at her expectingly, making Nora unable to bear direct eye contact.

She cleared her throat, searching for another excuse. "We don't have clothes for him to wear."

Now, it was Noe's turn to speak up, "I'll go grab some, right away."

Nora was rendered speechless yet again. Could she find another reason?

"You guys go ahead. I'm going to retire to my room." Carter, with a smile, not wanting Nora to feel uncomfortable, headed to her room.

Samantha was already eagerly pulling Aaron, "Dad, let's go upstairs."

"Okay." Aaron agreed graciously and slowly got up from his wheelchair.

The brothers ran to each of his side to support him. Together, they made their way upstairs. What a warm picture! But had they forgotten about her?

Nora was at a loss for words.

Upon climbing the stairs, three kids showed Aaron their rooms.

"Mr. Gordon, you can sleep in my room tonight," Billy said as he opened his door, making the offer.

Aaron quirked an eyebrow, quite certain he wouldn't be sleeping there that night. But of course, he wouldn't say that in front of the children.

When Nora came upstairs, Aaron simply watched as she helped the three kids with their bedtime routines, as usual. Before long, Noe brought him his toiletries and a change of clothes.

Once the kids were done, Nora told him it was his turn to get ready for bed.

Aaron smiled, his eyes crinkling at the edges, "Aren't we doing this together?"

Nora glared at him, "Don't push your luck." She had reluctantly allowed him to stay the night. The last thing she needed was for him to overstep.

Aaron giggled softly but didn't protest and headed into the bathroom to get ready for bed.

Nora made up the beds for her sons and then went to her daughter's room, preparing to read her a bedtime story.

"Mom, take a break today, and let Dad tell the story tonight." Samantha spoke with a shy twist of her voice.

Aaron came out soon after, freshly groomed.

Nora gave him a look and tossed him the fairy tale book, "Go tell Samantha a story and get her to sleep, I'm going to take a shower."

Aaron sensed her jealousy and wrapped his arms around her slender waist with a smile. "Does it seem like someone is upset?"

Nora struggled a bit, "I am not."

Before Nora could say anything else, Aaron kissed her.

Nora gave him a light punch, and Aaron let go, quipping, "Wait for me."

Wait for him? Was he implying he would climb into her bed later? Nora's eyes shimmered with emotion as she watched Aaron enter her daughter's room, then she went to her bedroom to shower.

When she was done, she found Aaron sitting on the couch, reading one of her medical books. Under the light, the man was picture-perfect, reclining in a lazy yet indulgent pose.

What a handsome man, Nora privately mused, patting her damp hair with a towel. "Did Samantha fall asleep?"

"Yes," he replied.

Aaron lifted his gaze, his eyes scanning over Nora's rosy and radiant cheeks, looking at her lovingly.

Nora tossed the towel aside and reached for the hairdryer to start drying her hair, casually mentioning, "You should go to sleep now."

Aaron spoke without urgency, "Not in a hurry. I need to digest the meal."

Nora's thoughts involuntarily drifted to certain topics, her pretty face flushing with color.

"Aaron, this is my house. Don't start any trouble."

She always felt it was strange to have him stay the night while her grandmother and children were around. It wasn't like her to be so frivolous. It went against her strict nature.

Aaron was silent as Nora prepared to dry her hair. He stood up, walked over to her, and took the hair dryer from her hands to help with the task. His slender fingers weaved through her silky tresses, gently massaging her scalp and lulling her into a state of blissful drowsiness.

With half-closed eyes, Nora reveled in his acts of service, internally sighing from the comfortable sensation. Aaron had a knack for drying hair, and soon enough, her hair was dry.

He put away the hair dryer and saw Nora lounging on the couch, lazy as a kitten, with a sparkle of amusement in her eyes. Serving her like this, attending to her comfort, gave him a sense of accomplishment.

"All done? Thanks a lot," Nora said, somewhat reluctantly running her fingers through her hair.

She attempted to stand up, but Aaron gently pushed her back onto the couch. His long fingers grazed her hair as his deep eyes locked onto hers. "Did you enjoy that?"

Nora blinked, "It was pretty good."

"Want to feel even better?" His seductive tone quickened her heartbeat.

Nora was quite aware of what he meant and lightly pushed him away. "Cut it out."

But Aaron caught her hands and pressed a kiss to her fingers. "Let's keep it down," he whispered.

Nora's cheeks flushed, her gaze tender yet teasing as she looked at him. Aaron didn't waste any more time and began to undo Nora's clothes.

As her clothes fell away, Nora's fair skin was exposed to the air.

"Help me," Aaron's voice was husky, asking Nora to help him undress.

Nora, her eyes filled with affection, was about to lift her hands when a sudden cramp seized her abdomen, and a warm flow started. She gasped in pain, her brows furrowing.

"What's wrong?" Aaron asked.

"Just get up. My period just started."

Aaron watched Nora hurry into the bathroom, and piecing together the situation from a month ago, his understanding was instantaneous.

His expression was of disappointment. 'There goes my plans for the evening. Frustrating.'

In the bathroom, just as Nora had expected, she made a quick cleanup and, clutching the discomfort from her aching belly, went back out.

The room was empty — Aaron was gone.

Nora felt a wave of disappointment. 'Such a pragmatic man, to just leave knowing they couldn't do anything?'

'Disillusioned again by the nature of men.'

Feeling disheartened, Nora changed into a fresh pair of underwear and crawled into bed, trying to get some sleep.

After an indeterminable amount of time, the sound of the door unlocking echoed. Someone entered. Nora turned her head and saw Aaron in a black silk robe, carrying a bowl of hot chocolate.

Thinking of his earlier pragmatism, she couldn't help but feel sour, "What are you doing back here?"

Aaron walked to the bedside. “I heard hot chocolate is good during that ‘time of the month’, so I made you a cup. Have some before you go back to sleep."

Nora remained silent. She was moved by his gesture and sat up to look at him steadily. "Did you make it yourself?"

"Yes."

Nora blurted out, "Is it drinkable?"

Nora felt that Aaron was such a high-and-mighty CEO that he probably had never done such a thing before.

"I asked Rebecca how to make it, and I've tasted it myself. It's fine," Aaron assured her.

Nora's heart felt warm. She took the cup and sipped the hot chocolate slowly. Although it wasn't very tasty, it made her feel much better. Her stomach seemed to hurt less, too.
