Chapter 881 No one Can Come Between Us
Tomas had a smile on his face, but it quickly faded as he glanced at Rafael and Miguel.
Right then, Rafael and Miguel were checking out Nora.
They still had no clue why Tomas had invited Aaron and Nora to the royal palace.
All they could think was that Nora was even more stunning in person than in her photos.
It wasn't hard to believe Mateo might be smitten with her.
"Dr. Smith, Mateo must've told you, I plan to make you my goddaughter. You'll stay here tonight, and tomorrow morning, I'll announce it publicly," Tomas said, getting straight to the point.
Hearing this, Scarlett, Rafael, and Miguel were all taken aback.
Miguel was the most upset.
"Dad, how can you just make a commoner your goddaughter? That's against the rules!"
Tomas shot him a cold look. "Then tell me, given the current situation, do you have a better way to calm the public for Mateo?"
Miguel was at a loss for words, his eyes darting to Rafael.
Rafael's face darkened; he hadn't expected Tomas to pull this move either.
It seemed Mateo and Tomas had planned this all along, catching them off guard.
"Such a big decision, why didn't you mention it to me?" Scarlett said with a smile.
Tomas replied, "You've been unwell lately, so I didn't want to bother you with trivial matters."
"Making someone a goddaughter isn't a trivial matter; I should definitely be more involved."
Scarlett smiled, but her eyes were cold.
She looked at Nora and said, "Dr. Smith, right? You look so delicate. Come closer so I can have a good look at you."
The translator, who had been translating all along, conveyed this to Nora, who then stood up and walked over to Scarlett.
Scarlett looked her up and down and said with a smile, "Dr. Smith, you look just as beautiful up close, and your skin is so nice."
Nora smiled and said, "Thank you for the compliment, Queen Scarlett."
Scarlett continued, "You cured Mateo's illness, didn't you?"
"Yes," Nora replied, lowering her eyes.
At this moment, she could only take full credit for it.
"Everyone has their youth, and Mateo is at an age full of vigor. It's normal for him to fall for a beautiful girl like Dr. Smith as soon as he regained health," Scarlett said with a smile.
After hearing the translator, Nora's face changed.
"Queen Scarlett, please be careful with your words. Prince Mateo and I are just in a doctor-patient relationship."
Scarlett laughed. "Dr. Smith, there're no outsiders here. I'm just making a comment; you don't need to take it too seriously."
Aaron, sitting beside Nora, looked livid.
"Queen Scarlett, even though there are no outsiders here, you are the queen. Your words and actions represent the royal family, and you should know the consequences of careless speech."
"Nora is my wife, and her status in Chrisland is not ordinary. I know her character well. We are a loving couple, and no one can come between us."
"I hope that your casual remark doesn't bring unnecessary trouble to King Tomas or the entire Hchilia."
Aaron's words were full of warning.
Aaron meant that if Scarlett continued to speak recklessly, he wouldn't mind stirring up conflict between the two countries.
"Mr. Gordon, please calm down. Scarlett is short-sighted; please don't take it to heart," Tomas quickly apologized to Aaron, then looked at Scarlett with a colder gaze.
"Queen Scarlett, you need to educate yourself more so you don't disgrace the royal family and tarnish the title of queen!" Aaron added.
Scarlett's face turned red with anger after being reprimanded by Aaron and then scolded by Tomas. She glanced at Aaron, whose eyes were cold, and her nails dug into her flesh.
"Dad!"
Seeing Scarlett being criticized, Miguel was furious and impulsively wanted to defend her. But Rafael pulled him back.
Miguel looked at Rafael, who shook his head slightly, signaling him to stay quiet. Miguel reluctantly suppressed his anger.
Tomas glanced at Miguel, then turned his gaze to Nora. "Dr. Smith, do you have any objections to my proposal?"
Nora replied, "No objections. It is my honor to be taken as your goddaughter."
Tomas smiled. "It is also my honor to take a divine doctor as my goddaughter. I will have Mateo show you to your quarters, and then you can join the banquet."
"Alright."
Mateo walked up to them and made a gesture of invitation. "Nora, Mr. Gordon, please."
Aaron nodded slightly, wrapped his arm around Nora's waist, and they followed Mateo.
As soon as the three of them left, Tomas's smile faded. His gaze swept over Scarlett, Rafael, and Miguel, and he warned, "Aaron and Nora are my honored guests. If you cause any trouble, don't blame me for being harsh!"
With that, Tomas turned and left the palace with a cold face. Only Scarlett, Rafael, and Miguel were left in the hall. Scarlett was so angry that her eyes turned red. Rafael and Miguel's faces were also extremely pale.
Miguel said angrily, "Dad is too much. He didn't give Mom any face in front of those two outsiders."
Rafael sneered, "Can't you see? Mateo is his favorite now."
Scarlett clenched her fists. "Is he really planning to elevate Mateo? Has he forgotten that you two are the real princes?"
Rafael glanced at her. "Mom, if Mateo ascends to the throne, there will be no place for us in the royal family."
Scarlett was both angry and helpless. "I understand that, but I am old and no longer attractive. Your father doesn't care about me at all, and I have no say in the royal family."
A trace of ruthlessness flashed in Rafael's eyes. "If that's the case, then we need to find a way to have a say."
Scarlett was stunned. "What do you mean?"
Rafael's face turned sinister. "Dad is old; it's time for him to step down."
Miguel was taken aback and tentatively asked, "Rafael, do you mean to rebel?"
Scarlett was shocked. "Rafael, he is your father."
Rafael's lips curled into a cold smile. "I hope it doesn't come to that. I don't want to turn against my father. But if he insists on passing the throne to Mateo, he's no longer my father!"
Miguel had always followed Rafael's lead. "Rafael, you are the smart one. Whatever you said, I will follow your lead. We all trust you."
Rafael nodded with a smile. "And those two from Chrisland, they are the ones who caused all this trouble!"
Scarlett thought of how Aaron had ruthlessly scolded her and was filled with resentment. "That Aaron dared to speak to me in such a tone. He doesn't respect me as the queen at all."
"Exactly, Rafael, get him!" Miguel said with a fierce look.
Rafael said, "In these critical times, I said no violence."
Miguel added, "So we just let Mom suffer in vain?"
