Chapter 1052 Suffering a Loss in Front of You

Billy choked, his eyes landing on Millie's graceful figure nearby, a determined look in his brown eyes. "Millie and I get each other, no need for cheesy confessions."

Billy was as cocky as ever. Samantha grinned. "Billy, you're great, but there are lots of great guys out there! Just because Millie said she'd marry you when she was little doesn't mean she will now. No girl wants a guy who isn't romantic!"

Billy felt uneasy but still scoffed. "Cheesy."

"Yeah, I'm cheesy, super cheesy," Samantha laughed. "But seriously, if you don't listen to me, you'll regret it. I'll be waiting."

Billy's face darkened. "Can't you wish me well for once?"

Samantha stuck her tongue out at him and made a face.

"What are you guys talking about?" Millie asked, walking over after her phone call.

Millie had a bright smile, her mixed-race features stunningly beautiful.

Samantha's eyes sparkled as she teased, "Talking about an unromantic guy."

Millie looked suspicious.

"Nothing," Billy said, clearing his throat and glaring at Samantha. "You still haven't said, who is that guy?"

Samantha was speechless. Billy was hard to distract.

Just then, Samantha got a call. "It's my mentor. I'll take this, you two chat."

Billy squinted, watching Samantha run off, deep in thought. 'Does Samantha really like someone? Who is it? Who's trying to steal her away?'

"Billy, what were you guys talking about?" Millie asked curiously.

"Samantha likes someone," Billy said.

"Really, who? Do we know him?" Millie's eyes lit up, eager for gossip.

Billy shook his head. "Couldn't get it out of her, she's tight-lipped."

Millie laughed. "I bet the guy Samantha likes is handsome and romantic."

'A romantic guy?' Billy thought of Samantha's earlier talk about romance and glanced at Millie. "Why do you think that?"

Millie explained, "Because Samantha studies music. She's romantic, so the guy she likes must be too."

Billy stared at her. "Do you like romantic guys too?"

Millie looked at Billy's handsome face, her eyes twinkling. "What girl doesn't like romance?"

Billy was speechless. He wasn't romantic at all.

Billy had always focused on studying. Now, Aaron was grooming him to be the heir of the Gordon Group, handing over many company affairs to him. He had no time for romance.

Billy felt strange. "So, do you think I'm boring?"

Millie glanced at Billy, suppressing a smile. "A little bit."

'A little bit! Millie really thinks I'm not romantic,' Billy thought, frustrated. 'Does that mean she doesn't like me anymore?'

Looking at the beautiful Millie, Billy wanted to ask if she liked him, but his pride stopped him.

Billy and Millie stared at each other, suddenly at a loss for words.

Billy realized that a subtle distance had grown between them. They weren't as close as they used to be.

Millie didn't chatter about everything anymore, and Billy didn't have time for small talk with her.

'Is this growing up? No, it's my arrogance!' Billy thought. Millie had always seen herself as his bride, but he forgot that feelings are unpredictable.

People change as they grow. A childhood joke stays a joke. Millie wasn't his bride anymore, and that made Billy uncomfortable.

"What's wrong? Mad because I said you're boring?" Millie asked, seeing Billy's tense face. She smiled sweetly. "Don't be mad. No matter how boring you are, you're still my good brother!"

'Good brother! Millie only sees me as a brother!' Billy got more frustrated, his face darkening.

Looking at Millie's smiling face, he took a deep breath and nodded. "You're eighteen now. When you go to college and get a not-boring boyfriend, don't forget to let your boring good brother check him out!"

Billy's pride wouldn't let him lose his cool in front of Millie. He gritted his teeth, said his piece, and walked off to join some friends.

Watching Billy's tall, handsome back, a sly glint flashed in Millie's eyes. 'Billy's angry! Is it because I called him boring or brother? Probably the latter. If he doesn't want to just be my brother, he should do something! Look at how Alex treats Erin. I want that kind of love!'

In the estate's back garden, Samantha answered her mentor's call.

"Samantha, the TV station invited Wesley Knight for a variety show next month. Our music department got a spot to perform with him. I recommended you. Come to school tomorrow to meet him."

Samantha felt a surge of joy. She was going to perform with Wesley. Best news all year.

"Okay, see you tomorrow, professor!" Hanging up, Samantha looked at her phone, smiling.

She pulled up a contact on WeChat and sent a message. [Why didn't you tell me the good news?]

Samantha had known Wesley for years. Now, he was a popular singer. And he got into music because she saw his talent.

Five years ago, Wesley was eighteen and didn't continue school due to his poor background.

He played guitar in bars and night markets. Samantha, fresh out of middle school, heard him perform while shopping with Aaron and Nora.

Wesley's voice moved her. It was pleasant, with a hint of melancholy, and he was handsome. Samantha suggested to Aaron and Nora that their media company sign him.

They agreed. When they got back, Aaron had someone find Wesley and sign him to the Gordon Group's media company.
