Chapter 676 Unwarranted Blame

Hearing Nora's words, Howard finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"I've been saying we should have told Mom and Dad about this sooner. This way, if anyone misunderstands Richard and Evella again, I won't have to worry."

As long as the Hamilton family doesn't misunderstand Evella, nothing else matters!

"Howard, are you satisfied with the heiress I picked out for you?" Emma didn't forget to steer the conversation back to the main topic.

Howard smiled. "Yeah, very satisfied. Thanks, Mom, for making it happen!"

Emma forced a fake smile. "You're welcome. I was afraid if I didn't make it happen, you'd make me call you Mom!"

Nora couldn't hold back and burst out laughing.

Howard also chuckled, "I didn't expect you to be so humorous, Mom."

Emma, feeling proud, said, "I'm not an old relic. I used to be extreme because your dad made me that way. You know, in a marriage, women who lack love tend to have unlikable personalities."

Ebenezer, who was inexplicably blamed, was speechless.

"What does this have to do with me?"

Emma glanced at him. "What it has not to do with you?"

Ebenezer replied, "If I knew, would I be asking you?"

Emma gave a threatening smile. "You can't even guess my thoughts. After all these years of marriage, you never really paid attention to me."

Ebenezer, feeling a headache coming on, said, "Are you going to bring up old issues again?"

Emma continued, "I won't. I've figured it out. I have sons and a daughter, Sandy and Aaron. They're all so respectful to me. Why should I make myself miserable by fighting with a man who doesn't love me? Whoever you're thinking about, keep thinking about her. I can't be bothered with you!"

Ebenezer was utterly speechless. "You spend all day thinking about nonsense. When have I not paid attention to you? Who was it that comforted you for half the night when you had a nightmare last night?"

Hearing this, Emma's eyes flickered, and she argued, "Wasn't that because you were also worried about Nora and couldn't sleep?"

Ebenezer didn't explain further and continued. "And who was it that took care of you day and night when you had surgery recently, almost turning gray for you overnight?"

Hearing this, Emma's eyes flickered again.

"That was because you have a conscience, right?"

She said this, but her voice lowered.

Ebenezer didn't argue with Emma. "Fine, you're always right. Think whatever you want."

Emma looked at Ebenezer's face, which, though no longer young, exuded maturity and wisdom, and cleared her throat.

"Why can't you just let me win in front of the kids? Do you have to counter every word I said?"

Ebenezer glanced at her. "Haven't I let you win enough? Listen, I'm even softening my voice."

He deliberately softened his voice, speaking in the tone he used with Samantha.

Emma was amused and couldn't hold back her laughter.

The atmosphere instantly became relaxed.

Nora, who had been worried that the two would argue and was planning to play peacemaker, couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.

It was clear that Ebenezer and Emma's relationship had become much closer than before.

How wonderful it was for a family to be harmonious and warm!

"Mom, Dad, Kenneth, Howard, Sandy, you guys chat. I'm heading upstairs."

"You've had a hard day. Go rest," Emma said.

"Mom, Dad, we're heading upstairs, too," Kenneth said, wrapping his arm around Sandy.

"Go ahead." Emma waved her hand.

Howard immediately stood up. "Mom, Dad, then I..."

"You stay!"

Howard opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted, still half-standing.

Why was it different for him?

He wanted to go upstairs and call Evella.

"Mom, what else do you want to ask?" Howard slowly sat back down.

Emma said, "Of course, I want to ask about your life decisions."

Howard replied, "Haven't you already picked out my future wife? What else is there to ask?"

"When do you plan to get married?"

"Well, Evella and I haven't discussed that yet."

"What's there to discuss? Does Evella not like you?"

Howard thought for a moment. "She should like me."

Emma frowned. "What do you mean?"

Howard said, "It means I'm not sure."

Emma paused, giving him a disdainful look. "Howard, you're a doctor, not a language teacher. You don't need to explain the literal meaning of words to me."

Howard laughed. "Mom, the literal meaning of 'should' is not 'not sure'."

Emma was speechless.

At the top of the stairs, Nora listened to Howard and Emma's conversation and smiled.

Kenneth called out to her from behind.

"Nora, I have an emergency meeting early tomorrow morning. Sandy needs to go to a beauty clinic for a check-up. Can you accompany her?"

Nora glanced at Sandy, who was wearing a veil, and nodded cheerfully.

"No problem."

"Thanks."

"Kenneth, you don't have to say thank you to me," Nora waved her hand and said. "Kenneth, you just woke up and haven't fully recovered. You need to rest more and not overwork yourself."

Kenneth smiled and glanced at Sandy.

"I know. With Sandy taking care of me, I'm doing well."

Nora suddenly thought that when she was with Aaron, others probably looked at them with the same envious and admiring expressions.

Just like she did now!

Of course, she didn't envy Kenneth and Sandy. She only wished them well.

Nora entered her bedroom.

Her phone beeped with a new message.

It was from Noe's phone.

"Dr. Smith, now is a good time. I need to discuss something related to Alex with you."

The message was likely from Aaron.

He was subtly reminding her that it was time to call him!

Nora felt a bit like a spy, using code to communicate with her superior.

She smiled and dialed a video call.

Soon, the video connected, and Aaron's handsome face appeared on the screen.

"Are you at home?"

Aaron glanced at the background wall behind Nora and asked.

Nora sat cross-legged on the sofa, finding a comfortable position to lean back.

"Yes, you see, I'm all alone."

Meaning she wasn't with Jackson.

Aaron raised an eyebrow. "Good, not sneaking around behind my back."

Aaron's words were really unpleasant.

Nora rolled her eyes at him.

"Now that you know, I'm hanging up."

"No, I was wrong." Aaron quickly pleaded.

Nora raised her eyebrows, pretending not to understand. "What were you wrong about?"

Aaron softened his tone. "I shouldn't have said anything about sneaking around. I shouldn't even think that way!"

Nora couldn't help but laugh. "You're pretty quick-witted."

Aaron replied, "Of course."

Nora laughed. "You are just sweet-talking."

"You love me for it."

"Keep joking, and I'll hang up!"

"Okay, no more jokes!"

After a bit of playful banter, Nora shifted her position.

"I met with Richard at noon. He said he would investigate the car accident and give you an explanation."
