Chapter 85 Hoping Mr. Gordon Could Be Their Father
After finishing Aaron's acupuncture session, Nora went upstairs.
As usual, she checked on her three children in the nursery before bedtime.
Then she retreated to her room to sleep.
The next morning, Nora woke up earlier than usual with thoughts of Paul on her mind.
After preparing breakfast, she also made a medicinal soup for Aaron. Seeing it was about time, she went to wake up the kids.
"Mom, did you perform surgery at the hospital again yesterday?" Alex asked.
"Yes," Nora replied with a smile.
"Are you tired, Mom?" Billy asked with concern.
"I'm good."
"Mom and Mr. Gordon didn't fight; she even calmed him!" Samantha chimed in, seeking praise.
Nora couldn't help but laugh and told Billy and her daughter to go freshen up.
Then she turned to Alex. "Alex, I need your help again."
A spark of excitement flickered in Alex's eyes, eager to be of assistance to his mom.
"What do you need me to do, Mom?"
"I want you to pull up last night's hospital entrance security footage around 9:30."
Nora spoke with a serious tone.
Alex nodded, pulled out his laptop, and his fingers got to work.
Shortly, the hospital's surveillance footage came up.
"Mom, it's ready."
Nora acknowledged and, pointing to Paul's figure on the video, said, "I need to see where he went after this."
She wanted to know where Paul had gone.
"Okay."
Alex's face was serious as he continued to navigate the screens. "Mom, he went into the hospital building and ended up on the 15th floor."
That was the orthopedic floor, where Kim's room was.
A slight heaviness settled in Nora's heart, the suspicion she harbored becoming clearer.
"Alright, Alex, go freshen up, and I'll take another look."
She needed to see how long Paul had stayed on the 15th floor.
Maybe he just swung by to visit a friend and left right after.
As Alex noticed the subtle change in Nora's expression, he asked, "Mom, who is he, and why are you checking up on him?"
"He's connected to your godmother. I'll tell you about it later."
"Okay."
He nodded, then suddenly remembered something, "Mom, did you and Mr. Parker go house-hunting yesterday?"
Nora paused, surprised. "How did you know?"
"Uh-huh, Noe told me."
Alex thought for a moment before asking, "Mom, why are you looking at houses? Are you planning to marry Mr. Parker?"
There was a moment of silence.
"No, honey. I just thought it might be nice for us to move to a better place, that's all."
Alex let out an inexplicable sigh of relief.
While he quite liked Mr. Parker, for some reason, between him and Mr. Gordon, he found himself secretly wishing Mr. Gordon would be their father!
It must be his siblings' influence rubbing off on him.
Nora didn't pick up on her son's internal dilemma; her focus was fixed on the surveillance footage.
She scrolled through the video feed, but Paul didn't appear to leave the 15th floor.
So, had he spent the night in Kim's room?
If he and Kim were just friends, was there any reason to spend the night in the hospital room?
No! There had to be something deeper between Paul and Kim!
Thinking of Paul's gently sculpted face, Nora bit her lip.
She didn't want to think the worst of people, but knowing her best friend's happiness might be at stake, she had to figure out the nature of Paul and Kim's relationship.
Taking a deep breath, Nora shut down the computer.
Downstairs, Noe had come over early and entered the room on the first floor.
In the room, Aaron was busy braiding Samantha's hair.
Watching the little one's soft locks being fashioned into two neat pigtails filled his heart with pride.
From those initially clumsy attempts to his now practiced hands, he was truly getting the hang of it.
"All done," Aaron handed her a mirror so Samantha could check herself out.
The little girl inspected her reflection in the mirror, happily touching her pigtails.
Suddenly curious, she snuggled up to Aaron and asked, "Mr. Gordon, how did Mom calm you down last night?"
The kid's eyes were wide with curiosity, but Aaron's smile faltered momentarily.
Was he still trying to cajole her? Not only was Nora not appeasing him, but she was also packing up to leave, to leave him!
"Nora tried a different approach with me," Aaron explained, unable to voice his complaints to the little one, offering a half-hearted response.
"That's it?" Samantha blinked her large eyes.
"That's it," confirmed Aaron.
"Mom's got her special way of doing things!" Samantha was quick to defend her mother's methods.
Noe, observing from the side, caught the subtle changes in Aaron's expression, sensing his displeasure.
Could it be that Aaron and Nora were still at odds?
This was not good—if the two were squabbling, he would be the one to suffer, as usual!
Just then, Nora came downstairs.
After greeting Noe at the door, she called out to her daughter, "Samantha, stop dragging your feet. Time for breakfast."
"Okay."
With a soft reply, Samantha scampered out to eat breakfast with delight.
Seeing Nora about to leave, Noe's eyes lit up with an idea.
"Nora, let me take the kids to school today."
By giving her this favor, she could spend more time with the company's CEO.
The CEO would certainly appreciate that.
Nora paused, "Wouldn't that be a bother for you?"
"Not at all."
"Alright, then. I have to run some errands, so the kids are all yours."
She was planning to head to the hospital early to check on Kim.
Noe hadn't anticipated that his offer would mean Nora leaving earlier than expected.
He glanced at the CEO sitting in his wheelchair, his expression as cold as ice, and involuntarily swallowed hard.
Had he messed things up again?
"By the way, Mr. Wilson, there's some herbal tonic I whipped up in the kitchen. Make sure the CEO gets it," Nora reminded, grabbing her things to go.
Noe quickly replied, "You prepared the tonic so early? Thanks for your hard work."
Aaron, whose demeanor was icy cold, seemed to soften a touch when he heard that Nora had personally prepared the tonic for him.
Noe sneakily looked at him and let out a relieved sigh.
Nora smiled, bidding farewell to the kids before turning to Aaron, "Thomas, I've got to go. Make sure you finish all the medicinal soup and don't leave any behind. And don't overwork yourself, okay?"
Aaron nodded, his expression softening further.
"Where are you rushing off to?"
"To the hospital. I'm off now!"
Without elaborating, Nora drove off to the hospital.
Arriving at the hospital tower, she took the elevator up to the fifteenth floor.
As soon as the elevator doors opened, she saw Paul walking toward her.
When he saw Nora, he was momentarily taken aback; a flicker of panic darted through his eyes before he regained his composure.
"Ah, it's you, Nora.”
Nora didn't miss the brief moment of panic in his eyes.
"What are you doing here, Paul?" she inquired.
"Just visiting a friend," Paul replied.
Glancing around, Nora asked, "Your friend wouldn't happen to be Kim, would they?"
With a calm demeanor, Paul said, "Yeah, we met at the gym through the same personal trainer. We've kept in touch since then."
