Chapter 235 What Is My True Nature

Nora brought the two bowls of pasta to the dining table. "I didn't find much in the fridge, so I just made us a couple of bowls of pasta," she said,

Quinn sat down at the table, enticed by the delicious aroma wafting through the air. "Nora, you're both beautiful and a skillful cook," she complimented, leaning in to give Nora a peck on the cheek.

Nora was taken aback but then chuckled. Sometimes, earning the affection of the same sex sometimes felt more rewarding than that of the opposite sex.

They ate in silence, the clinking of utensils against plates the only sound in the room, As they neared the end of their meal, Quinn grabbed some napkins to wipe her mouth and then stood up to get some drinks from the fridge for them both.

"Nora, you saw everything today, didn't you? Do you think I'm truly the social butterfly that outsiders claim me to be?" Quinn asked, her tone casual yet tinged with a hint of curiosity.

Hearing that, Nora glanced at her. Quinn’s demeanor seemed carefree, but she must care, right? After all, nobody lives in a vacuum.

“Of course not. We doctors have a keen eye, capable of seeing beyond appearances to the essence," Nora replied playfully, her words carrying a hint of reassurance

Quinn's eyebrows raised, seemingly intrigued. "And what, pray tell, is my essence?"

"You are a bold and passionate woman." Nora declared, "If you're good to me, I'll treat you even better. But if you dare to betray my trust, expect retribution tenfold. That's just who I am."

At Nora's words, Quinn's eyes lit up with admiration, and she gave Nora a thumbs-up.

"Nora, appears you indeed possess some remarkable skills! After all, in the business world, displaying any hint of vulnerability can prove fatal," Quinn remarked, her delicate features belying the steeliness in her words

Despite Nora's lack of firsthand experience in the cutthroat business world, she trusted in what she said.

Quinn's appearance was deceiving—undoubtedly, many had been ensnared by her looks and suffered the consequences.

Meanwhile, Frederick, after much hesitation, decided to call Aaron and inform him about the incident Nora had encountered at lunch that day.

Amidst the chatter and clinking of glasses at the networking event, Aaron noticed Frederick's call and excused himself from the table to answer in a quieter spot.

"What's up?"

"Mr. Gordon, Nora had encountered some trouble at lunch today." Frederick recounting the day's events at the club in meticulous detail.

Aaron's expression turned increasingly serious as he listened attentively.

"Someone's targeting her? Do you know who the two individuals are?"

"I'm not sure, but I've got it on video. I'll send it to you right away," Frederick assured him.

"Okay." After confirming, Aaron asked, "Is she at Quinn's place now?"

"Yes, I've just dropped them off," Frederick replied.

Aaron grunted a response and then hung up. Afterwards, he received the video from Frederick. Watching the conversation between Frank and Raymond in the video, a chilling smirk formed at the corner of his mouth.

He forwarded the video to Noe with a brief message.

Aaron: [Look into these two jerks!]

‘Who dared to make a move on his woman? It seemed they were taking their lives for granted.’

After sending the message to Noe, he paused for a moment and then proceeded to dial Nora's number.

‘It was an uncanny coincidence that she ran into Quinn. He hoped Nora wouldn't be tricked by Quinn.’

Meanwhile, Nora and Quinn were still chatting away. Noticing Aaron's call coming through, Nora answered it.

"Hello?"

"Are you at Quinn's place?" came Aaron's deep, resonant voice through the line.

Nora mentally rolled her eyes at his uncanny timing. "Yeah."

"What are you doing there?" Aaron inquired.

Nora glanced at Quinn, "Just talking with Quinn."

"Have you eaten?" Ethan asking about every little detail.

"Yeah, we have."

"What did you have?"

Nora hesitated for a moment, thrown off by the level of detail he sought to know.

Nearby, Quinn leaned in, her voice coquettish as she asked, "Is that Ron calling?"

Nora nodded and responded briefly.

"Let me have it."

Quinn elegantly opened the palm of her hand as she charmingly demanded the phone, leaving no room for Nora to refuse..

Nora dutifully handed her the phone, and Quinn activated the speakerphone, speaking sweetly, "What's up, Ron? I just brought Nora back for a meal. Don't worry about anything."

Nora was silent, thinking the conversation had taken a rather sudden turn!

"Don't you bully her," came Aaron's stern voice, warning her not to tease Nora too much.

Quinn's eyebrows arched as she looped her arm with Nora's, and without missing a beat, she planted a kiss on her cheek. It gave a soft smack sound coming from the kiss.

"What counts as bullying, huh? Surely, this doesn't!" Her kiss was loud, probably meant to provoke Aaron on purpose.

Nora could hardly contain her amusement as she heard the man's ominous voice come through the speaker.

"Quinn!"

Just two syllables, yet they made one's heart skip a beat.

Quinn, taking advantage of Aaron's absence, continued in her sweet tone, "Didn't I tell you before to hurry up and introduce me to a nice guy?"

She wanted Aaron to set her up with a good man. That caught Nora's attention, and she blinked as she pondered the thought. Quickly realizing that she didn't know too many eligible bachelors. And even those she knew seemed ill-equipped to handle a woman like Quinn.

Suddenly, the image of Baldwin flashed through Nora’s mind.

"What a short-tempered guy, just hangs up like that." Quinn pouted, handing the phone back to Nora. "Nora, is he always this intense with you?" she asked.

Nora was pulled back from her reverie and smiled, "It's not too bad."

Quinn hummed dismissively, still linked arm in arm with Nora, the affection between them evident, "He must be gruff. Otherwise, you would have dumped him, long ago."

"Quinn, I like guys," Nora felt compelled to clarify quickly, cutting off Quinn's train of thought.

Quinn burst into giggles. "Nora, look how scared you got! You really can't take a joke!" she teased.

Nora offered a dry laugh, eyeing Quinn's beautiful face, and ventured to ask, "Are you looking for a boyfriend?"

Quinn's laughter simmered down, and she nodded, "Yeah! I've been so busy with work that I haven't had chance to have a taste of romance. I don't plan on becoming an old maid."

Nora thought to herself for a moment, "With your status, can't you find a boyfriend? It can't be that, can it? Maybe your standards are just too high?"

Quinn smiled seductively, "Yes, I'm hoping to find someone with a solid background who's also relatively faithful. Like Aaron, a scion of a distinguished family. Unfortunately, men like that are rare—they're not easy to find."

Hearing this, Nora couldn't help asking, "Do you like Aaron?"

Quinn glanced at her, pinching her cheek with her slender fingers. "If I liked him, would you let me have him?"

Nora replied, "Even if I would, he wouldn't listen to me."

Quinn smirked and teased, "So you're saying he can't live without you! Look at you, showing off!"

Nora pressed her lips together in a smile, indeed feeling a bit smug.

"But you know, with three kids of your own, it probably won't be easy to marry Aaron and get his family's blessing, right?"
