Chapter 179 What on Earth Are They Doing Inside?
In the bustling exterior world, Howard found himself hastening towards the Golden Harvest Diner, where he was to rendezvous with Evella.
"Ah, Howard, you've arrived," Evella greeted him.
"Is Dr. Smith safe? Have they managed to extract her?" Howard inquired anxiously.
Evella swallowed with difficulty before answering, "Jackson emerged, beaten and bruised, as if he'd been in a brawl. But there was no sign of Dr. Smith. I'm uncertain if she's still confined within the private booth."
Fear had consumed her earlier. After alerting Howard, she had retreated to the dressing room to swap her tattered uniform for her own attire.
Upon her return to the vicinity of the private booth, she had witnessed Jackson being hauled away. Shortly after, bouncers took up their posts at the entrance. Yet, there was no sight of Nora.
Howard's brow creased in worry, and he swiftly navigated his way to the exterior of the booth.
Two formidable guards clad in black stood sentinel. Howard halted, "Is there anyone inside? I need to gain entry."
"Apologies, but Noe has instructed us not to permit anyone inside," one of the guards informed him.
The guards, who were part of Aaron's team, recognized Howard.
Howard's frustration escalated, "Why is entry prohibited? What's the rationale?"
"Apologies, we're merely executing orders. We're not privy to any other information," one of the guards responded.
A sense of foreboding suddenly washed over Howard.
Noe wouldn't have stationed guards at the door without a valid reason.
'Could it be that Aaron is inside, making love to Nora?'
This thought cast a shadow over Howard's features, "Step aside. I need to get in."
The towering guards obstructed his path, "Please, don't make this difficult for us."
Agitated, Howard swiftly retrieved his phone to contact Noe.
'He had to ascertain the current situation from Noe!'
Noe promptly answered the call.
Howard wasted no time in getting to the point, "Noe, I'm right outside the booth. What's transpiring inside? Are Aaron and Nora in there?"
"Yes, Mr. Gordon and Dr. Smith are in the private room," Noe didn't attempt to conceal the truth.
Howard's frown deepened. "Why station two bodyguards at the door, denying access? What exactly are they doing in there?"
"I'm uncertain," Noe responded.
"Uncertain? And yet you've placed guards at the door?" Howard's tone was laced with ire.
Noe paused before stating, "You're an intelligent man. Dr. Smith was manipulated, and now, with Mr. Gordon in there, well, I don't need to elaborate, do I?"
No, he didn't. A man and a woman, alone in a room – what else could possibly be happening?
As the unwelcome realization dawned on him, Howard's fingers clenched into a fist.
He had dispatched Aaron to save her, not to bed her!
'Had he unwittingly delivered a woman into the arms of Suzy's future husband? How was he going to justify this to Suzy?'
An hour had passed.
Aaron, reclining on the expansive bed, observed the woman sleeping peacefully beside him. He leaned over, planting a tender kiss on her forehead. Her hair, still damp from their earlier activities, clung to her flushed cheeks, and her long eyelashes glistened with residual moisture.
As he recalled the intense moments they had shared, a warmth radiated through his chest, causing a soft smile to dance on his lips. Nora was now his girlfriend, and he felt a profound sense of responsibility towards her. He decided that when she woke, he would propose. She would become his wife.
Slipping into a robe, Aaron rose from the bed and quietly exited the bedroom, ensuring the door closed gently behind him. He made his way to the couch, massaging his tired legs as he settled down. He reached for his phone and dialed Noe.
The call was answered almost instantly.
"Mr. Gordon," came the prompt reply.
"Bring up two sets of clothes," Aaron requested.
"Already prepared. May I come in now?" Noe inquired, ever attentive and seemingly always one step ahead.
Aaron's lips curled into a half-smile as he responded in the affirmative. The door swung open, and Noe entered, carrying two large bags. He was followed closely by Howard and Evella.
"Mr. Gordon," Noe greeted, setting the bags down by the couch.
Aaron nodded in acknowledgment, his gaze shifting to Howard. "Howard, thanks for today."
Howard, looking visibly upset, glanced around the room before asking, "Where's Nora?"
"She's exhausted, resting," Aaron responded.
A flash of indignation crossed Howard's eyes. "Aaron, did you sleep with her?"
Aaron's expression remained calm and measured. "She got played by Jackson. It was a dire situation. There wasn't time to call a doctor, so I had to be her antidote."
Howard's face soured. "Aaron, you slept with Nora. What about Suzy? How's that fair to her?"
Aaron met his gaze squarely. "Howard, Suzy and I aren't romantically involved."
Howard choked on his words. "Aren't our families supposed to be uniting through marriage?"
Aaron was resolute. "I've made it clear to Suzy that I'm not going to marry her."
Howard seethed with frustration and resignation. He felt like a fool for ruining Samantha's chances at a good match. His face turned an ashen hue before he stormed out of the room.
The room fell silent. Aaron turned to Evella, who had been silent and tense since entering. "Did you alert Howard? Was Nora trying to save you when she almost got into trouble?"
His tone wasn't cold, but the authority he carried naturally put people on edge.
Swallowing nervously, Evella responded timidly, "Yes."
"Relax, just walk me through what happened again," Aaron instructed.
"Okay," Evella began, gathering her thoughts. "My name is Evella. I'm a college student and write stories to make ends meet. To craft more realistic narratives, I take up jobs to broaden my horizons. That's why I was working here today."
"The Golden Harvest Diner has a high-end clientele—wealthy and respectable for the most part. Today, I was assigned to serve Jackson's private room. The manager advised me to be cautious and not to upset him."
"I remembered the manager's words and served tea and water with care, but I didn't expect that Jackson, having had too much to drink, took a liking to me and wanted to sleep with me on the spot."
The memory made Evella shudder.
She swallowed hard. "Others were there, seeking favors from him. Instead of dissuading him, they egged him on. Thankfully, Dr. Smith showed up and saved me."
Aaron's expression turned cold and stern.
'Jackson doesn't deserve to be part of the Gordon family—a total disgrace!'
"Alright, you can go now."
Evella hesitated before asking, "How's Dr. Smith doing?"
She understood that Aaron had slept with Dr. Smith.
Had she escaped the wolf's den only to fall into the tiger's lair? The thought could consume her with guilt.
"Don't worry," Aaron reassured her, "I've been pursuing her already. I'll take responsibility for her."
Aaron sensed her thoughts and softened his tone a few notches.
Evella nodded and left the private room.
Noe closed the door and, facing Aaron's sternly handsome features, remarked, "Jackson's really crossed the line this time."
A bloodthirsty smirk curled at Aaron's lips, "Where is he now?"
