Chapter 568 Do We Need Help?
'He really wants to give me this ring!' Nora thought.
Her heart raced, her face flushing slightly.
"Does Mr. Gordon intend to propose to Ms. Hamilton with this ring?" Archer asked.
"Yes," Aaron smiled and admitted openly.
Harper, being a woman, was more interested in proposals.
Her eyes sparkled, asking, "When Mr. Gordon proposes, do we need to help?"
Aaron glanced at the shy Nora and said with a smile, "Thank you in advance. You will know what I am going to do later."
'Does he mean he will propose later?' Nora thought.
Her heart raced, finding it hard to think.
'He only said he would announce our engagement tonight. I didn't expect he was planning to propose!' she thought.
"Dr. Hamilton, don't accept his proposal right away, or he will think you are too easy to get. Men are cheap; they don't cherish things that come too easily." Gary, annoyed, deliberately provoked.
Aaron gave him a warning look.
Gary, undeterred, raised his eyebrows, thinking, 'Bite me.'
"Gary, stop talking nonsense." Evella patted Gary and then turned to Nora. "Nora, if Mr. Gordon proposes, make sure to say yes. Wishing you eternal happiness."
Gary glared at her and said, "Evella, whose sister are you anyway?"
Evella playfully smiled and said, "I'm Nora's good sister."
Gary sneered, "Then go with her and don't come back home."
Before Evella could respond, Howard suddenly said, "Gary, thank you for letting us be together."
Gary was puzzled, asking, "Howard, what do you mean?"
Howard replied, "Given that Nora's home is my home, too, by asking Evella to go home with Nora, you're hinting that I should marry Evella soon."
Gary was taken aback, and he said, "Howard, you have quite the imagination! The man who's on a blind date with Evella is right here!"
Kevin immediately chimed in, "Archer, Gary, I'll come to your place tomorrow to discuss Evella's marriage."
Upon hearing this, Howard looked coldly at Evella and asked, "Evella, are you really going to date him? He has quite a colorful personal life."
Evella blinked and asked, "How do you know about his colorful personal life?"
Howard glanced at Kevin and said, "We're in the same circle; I can easily find out that he has deceived many naive girls into accompanying him."
Kevin retorted, "Howard, don't slander me."
Howard asked, "Did I slander you?"
"You..." Kevin said.
"Do you have evidence?" Evella quickly interjected.
Howard raised an eyebrow, saying, "Evella, will you only feel regret after you've been deceived by him?"
Evella replied, "No. I mean, if you have evidence, I can show it to my grandmother so that she won't blame me."
Howard thought, 'So, she wants evidence to convince her grandmother.'
He chuckled and said, "I'll go gather some evidence then."
Evella said, "Sure."
Kevin was getting furious as he listened to their conversation. He said, "Howard, do you want to fight?"
Howard glanced at him, saying, "You think I would be afraid of you?"
Kevin said angrily, "If you have the guts, let's go outside and settle this!"
Howard rolled up his sleeves and said, "Whoever doesn't go is a coward!"
Tension filled the air; they were all angry.
"Wait," Evella quickly spoke up.
She looked at Kevin and said, "Mr. Swift, I'm sorry, but I really don't like you. We're not a good match; let's end our blind date."
Kevin, already irritated from the taunts, was now furious.
"Evella, are you kidding me?" he asked.
Archer glanced at him and calmly said, "Mr. Swift, Evella is just here for a blind date; there's no rule that it has to be successful, right?"
As Evella's brother, Archer's words subdued Kevin's aggression.
Howard chimed in, "Exactly, Kevin, don't get upset if it doesn't work out. You should know what kind of person you are; Evella is an innocent girl, and it's normal for her not to like you."
Kevin, who had calmed down a bit, was now irritated again.
He wanted to fight Howard, but he knew that everyone supported Howard.
Even if he clashed with Howard, he wouldn't gain anything.
So, he could only threaten Howard.
"Howard, you just wait!" Kevin said.
With that, he angrily stormed off.
"He actually gave up!" Nora said.
He watched the argument unfold and secretly gave Howard a thumbs up.
Howard raised his eyebrows, looking much happier.
They continued walking towards the banquet hall to attend the dinner.
Howard pulled Evella aside.
Evella paused, pushing his hand away, and said, "What are you doing? Let me tell you, just because I rejected Kevin doesn't mean you have a chance. I'm not ready to get married yet, so I don't think you can pursue me."
Howard said with a smile, "You don't want to get married, but your grandmother might not agree, right? If this blind date fails, your grandmother might arrange more for you. Do you really want to go on blind dates with different men every day?"
Hearing this, Evella frowned and then glanced at her current attire.
She said, "I look so bad today, and many wealthy families' sons have seen me. They value reputation; they probably wouldn't want to go on a blind date with an ugly woman."
Howard raised an eyebrow, saying, "That's not necessarily true. For example, I wouldn't mind how you're dressed."
Evella glanced at him and said, "You're already out of the running."
Howard squinted and said, "Evella, do you dislike me that much?"
After a moment of thought, Evella said, "No, I've told you, I'm still young; I don't want to get married."
Howard rolled his eyes and said, "Then I'll pretend to be your boyfriend so that your grandmother won't continue setting you up on blind dates."
Hearing his words, Evella's eyes lit up.
But as she looked at Howard, she was somewhat puzzled. "Are you really that kind?"
Howard was a bit speechless, saying, "In your eyes, am I bad?"
Evella blinked and said, "No, but you're not that young anymore. If you pretend to be my boyfriend, won't it hinder you from finding a girlfriend?"
'She's interested in my idea!' Howard thought.
Howard smiled. "Don't worry. I'm not planning to get married anytime soon. My family is also pressuring me to get married, so I need a shield, too."
After some thought, Evella said, "Let's make a deal. We'll just pretend to be a couple, and you can't be rude to me."
'She agreed!' Howard thought.
He suppressed a smile and said seriously, "Evella, please think carefully about what kind of person I am. Am I that despicable?"
Evella replied, "It's always good to make the rule in advance, right?"
