Chapter 911 Should We Make a Bet
Zephyr stared at Jane's luscious red lips, feeling a tightness in his throat.
Ever since graduation, he had become a doctor.
Apart from being in the operating room, Zephyr had never worked in a big company like Medicovita Pharmaceuticals, nor did he have any experience as a general manager.
Right now, Zephyr felt like a CEO having a flirty moment with his secretary in the office.
The curtains were drawn, blocking the outside view, but not the faint rustling sounds from outside.
Zephyr's Adam's apple bobbed as he stared at Jane's red lips.
Getting intimate with Jane in the office—just the thought of it was thrilling!
Unconsciously, Zephyr reached out, pulling Jane into his arms, ready to act on his impulse.
A spark of intrigue flickered in Jane's eyes, and she didn't dodge, instinctively closing her eyes.
Zephyr leaned in slightly, ready to kiss her.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
"Mr. Wright."
Zephyr's eyes snapped open, and he quickly pushed Jane away.
The ambiguous atmosphere dissipated instantly.
Jane opened her eyes, somewhat speechless.
She had finally coaxed Zephyr into getting intimate with her, only to be interrupted repeatedly.
It seemed so difficult to get Zephyr to take advantage of her.
"Come in," Zephyr said, straightening his clothes and trying to stay calm.
The door opened, and Oskar walked in.
"Mr. Wright, Ms. Harvey, the ordered sofa has arrived."
It turned out the workers were here to replace the soft furnishings.
Zephyr nodded, signaling them to come in and make the changes.
The workers moved quickly, soon replacing the old furnishings with new ones.
Oskar led them out.
The room fell silent again.
Jane moved closer and asked, "Shall we continue?"
Zephyr cleared his throat. "Let's focus on tonight's business deal."
He felt that maybe even God thought he was being unprofessional, which was why they kept getting interrupted.
If they continued, something else might interrupt them again.
Interruptions were fine, but Zephyr feared that the constant surprises might give him a psychological issue!
"Then let's continue after the deal tonight."
Jane teased him.
Zephyr glanced at her and said, "If the deal doesn't go through, will you still be in the mood to continue?"
Jane raised an eyebrow and asked, "Why are you so unconfident?"
Zephyr said, "I've never done business, and neither have you. Isn't it normal to lack confidence?"
Jane looked at him and said, "How about we make a bet?"
Zephyr was taken aback. "Bet on what?"
"Bet on whether I can close this deal. If I succeed, you have to agree to one condition of mine."
Zephyr was puzzled. "What condition do you want me to agree to?"
Jane chuckled. "Mr. Wright, are you subconsciously confident that I can close the deal?"
Zephyr was at a loss for words.
Jane said, "I haven't decided yet. Do you agree to the bet or not?"
"Yes."
Jane snapped her fingers and then took out her phone to text Emilio.
Jane: [Help me look into someone.]
Seeing her fiddling with her phone, Zephyr had a vague idea of what she was up to.
"Who are you texting?"
"Emilio."
Just as he thought.
Zephyr's face darkened. "Jane, are you planning to have Emilio dig up dirt on Finnegan again and use it against him?"
Jane didn't deny it. "If it works, why not?"
Zephyr didn't respond.
She wasn't wrong, but asking help from a man who liked Jane made Zephyr uncomfortable.
"I actually know some computer experts too. We don't always have to ask Emilio."
Jane always turned to Emilio for help, as if Emilio was the only capable one.
And he felt useless.
Very frustrated.
Jane was busy texting Emilio and didn't have time to pay attention to Zephyr.
Emilio: [You need me to look into someone again? Who?]
Jane: [Finnegan from Vitalis Pharmaceuticals.]
Emilio: [Is this for Zephyr again? Am I your free labor now?]
Jane: [If you don't want to help, I'll find someone else.]
Emilio: [Did I say I won't help?]
Jane: [I knew you were reliable. No rush, just get the information to me by 7 PM tonight.]
Emilio: [Why by 7 PM?]
Jane: [Because we're going to confront Finnegan at a party tonight.]
Emilio didn't reply.
Jane put away her phone and looked up at Zephyr.
"What did you just say?"
Zephyr glanced at her and said, "Nothing."
Jane raised an eyebrow and said, "You said we don't always have to ask Emilio, right?"
Zephyr looked away. "You heard it, so why ask?"
A hint of amusement flashed in Jane's eyes as she leaned closer. "Zephyr, do you dislike Emilio because you know he likes me? Are you jealous?"
A trace of discomfort flickered in Zephyr's eyes.
He pushed her away, saying seriously, "Focus on work during office hours. Don't think about these romantic matters."
Jane laughed. "Yes, Mr. Wright."
Hearing Jane's teasing tone, Zephyr's mood seemed to lighten.
Glancing at the pile of documents on the desk, Zephyr wondered if he should brush up on his management knowledge.
He couldn't just be a puppet who only gave orders.
"I'm going out for a bit."
Jane was surprised and asked, "Where are you going?"
"The bookstore."
"What are you going to the bookstore for?"
"To buy books and study."
Jane quickly understood and laughed. "I'll go with you."
Zephyr glanced at her but didn't refuse. The two of them left the office together.
As they left, the employees started whispering again.
"Seeing them always together, they must be a couple, right?"
"Latest news, Mr. Taylor just said that when he entered the office, they were about to kiss."
"I heard Ms. Harvey used to be a cop. She gave up her job to become Mr. Wright's assistant."
"Do you think they make a good match?"
"They look pretty good together."
Zephyr and Jane couldn't hear the gossip. They were driving to the nearest bookstore.
Medicovita Pharmaceuticals was in the old district of Lindwood City.
The nearest bookstore was in the bustling area of the old district.
Zephyr was driving, and as they approached a corner near their destination, waiting at a red light, he saw an elderly man crossing the street suddenly clutch his chest and collapse.
The person accompanying him cried out in alarm and rushed to help, but the old man had already closed his eyes and passed out.
The companion was frantically searching the old man's pockets, probably looking for medication.
Witnessing this scene, Zephyr became more serious.
"I'll go check it out."
Zephyr was a doctor, and his instinct wouldn't let him ignore someone in need.
Jane followed him out of the car, and they quickly reached the sidewalk.
By then, a crowd had gathered, the traffic lights were flashing, car horns were blaring, and the scene was chaotic.
