Chapter 111 Not His Fault
The next day, Nora awoke with clutching something warm in her hand, causing her eyes to snap open. The handsome face of a man, resembling a slumbering prince, stirred her heart.
Speechless, she wondered how she ended up clasping Aaron in her sleep again. Where was the pillow she had meticulously placed between them?
"Morning." Aaron's eyes opened, his voice lazy and husky, exuding an alluring charm.
He had woken up earlier, savoring the rare tranquility of the early morning while pretending to be asleep.
Nora sat up, awkwardly tucking her hair behind her ear with a sheepish smile. "Where is the pillow? Did you take it?"
Aaron raised an eyebrow as he sat up slowly. "You threw it on the floor because it wasn't as comfortable as you wanted."
"How could I?" Nora was puzzled.
"Why couldn't you? You were quite the restless sleeper, hugging and holding onto me as if I were a teddy bear." Aaron teased her with a straight face.
Nora blushed and uncomfortably swung her legs out of the bed to get up.
"Thomas, you can't blame me. I said I was fine with the couch," she protested.
But it was he who insisted she sleep on the bed!
"I'm not blaming you!" Aaron replied with a smirk, a hint of regret flickering in his eyes.
He actually wouldn't mind falling asleep in Nora's bear hug every single night!
Who knows when such a perk would come around again?
In Houston, at the Kinch Hotel, a primary actor from a production crew checked in.
Suzy approached a particular suite. She slipped off her sunglasses, and knocked on the door.
The door swung open quickly, and the woman inside showed a flicker of surprise upon seeing her.
"Miss Hamilton? What brings you here?"
Suzy glanced at her coolly and strutted in on her high heels.
The woman remained silent as she closed the door and followed Suzy inside.
"Miss Hamilton, is there something you need? Why are you showing up unannounced like this?"
As Suzy perched on the sofa, she scrutinized the woman in front of her.
The woman's petite frame was complemented by a heart-shaped face and slightly upturned foxy eyes, which added a seductive charm to her gaze.
So this was Sunny, the woman Aaron was financing?
The one he thought he had slept with four years ago?
Crossing her legs, Suzy cut to the chase. "Four years ago, Aaron got drunk and slept with a woman. That woman wasn't you, right?"
Sunny's heart skipped a beat, and her facade wavered.
"Yes, I was with Mr. Gordon that night four years ago," she claimed.
Suzy didn't miss the panic that darted across her eyes.
"Sunny, let's not play games. There's no one else here, and I wouldn't say this without evidence. It’s useless in denying it."
Sunny tried to feign composure. "Miss Hamilton, I'm telling you the truth!"
Suzy slapped the coffee table. "Stop lying, Sunny! I'll just tell Aaron that you're a fraud. The woman he slept with four years ago was the bride at the time, Nora!"
At that revelation, Sunny's face turned ashen.
Her lips trembled, and she was speechless.
Suzy watched her reaction, her chest rising and falling with barely contained emotions.
She had guessed it right!
Aaron's one-night stand four years ago was with Nora!
That meant the three children were Aaron's!
"Miss Hamilton, I'm begging you, please don't tell Mr. Gordon!"
Sunny's panic was palpable. "That night, I waited for Mr. Gordon, but he never showed up. In the middle of the night, I heard noises outside and found him leaving another suite. It was then I realized he'd gone into the wrong room. Later, when he offered to fund my education, I didn't disclose the truth out of greed."
She was focused on finishing her education with the belief that once she made a name for herself, she would definitely repay him!
Now, just breaking into showbiz, she couldn't afford to lose Aaron as her trump card!
"If you don't want me to tell Aaron about this, you'll do as I say from now on," Suzy stated with a haughty tone.
Sunny was taken aback and probed, "Miss Hamilton, what do you want me to do?"
"Don't worry, I won't make you do anything illegal."
All she had to do was make an appearance in front of Nora and Aaron!
Bescosarst.
After dropping the kids off at school, Noe picked up Nora and Aaron to go back to Houston.
After taking Nora home, Aaron went to the Gordon Group.
He called an emergency meeting regarding the collaboration with the Smith Company.
Upon seeing Caleb and Jackson arrive late, Aaron remained calm as he said, "Ladies and gentlemen, the deal with the Smith Company is signed. However, it almost slipped through our fingers to the Godric Group of Bescosarst. Gayle from Godric mentioned that someone leaked our bids to him, enabling him to snag the big contract. Caleb, do you have anything to say regarding this matter?"
Caleb glanced at Aaron. "Are you suggesting I leaked the bids to Mr. Gayle?"
"Didn't you?" Aaron asked coldly.
"Do you have proof?" Caleb retorted with arrogance.
Aaron pulled out a recording pen and played a clip.
"I paid Caleb a substantial commission; it was he who revealed the bid to me."
It was Gayle's voice.
Aaron had recorded it earlier.
Caleb's face turned pale, internally cursing Gayle for his incompetence.
He had actually admitted to their clandestine deal!
People around them began to whisper.
"Caleb, you're part of Gordon Group. How could you do this?"
"Even if you disagree with Aaron's management, you can't do something that harms the company's interests."
Aaron's gaze was icy as he looked at Caleb, "When I was in Bescosarst, someone tried to have me killed. Who do you think is behind it?"
Caleb suppressed his inner turbulence. "Are you implying I ordered the hit? If you have evidence, just show it!"
Aaron's eyes were steady. "Caleb, I'll find out eventually. For now, I declare that Caleb is stripped of all managerial rights and expelled from the board of directors!"
To be humiliated by a junior—Caleb's expression couldn't have been more unsightly.
He sprang to his feet with a swiftness that sent the chair clattering behind him. "Aaron, let's see how long your smugness lasts! Just you wait!"
Aaron remained composed, his thoughts occupied by the enigmatic adversary lurking in the shadows, threatening his life.
He had to instruct Noe to keep a close watch on Caleb around the clock.
Caleb, stripped of his powers, surely wouldn't take this lying down—he was bound to reach out to the puppet master again!
"Aaron, I’ve heard you've got yourself a new secretary who's been a huge help. When are you going to bring her to the office and introduce her to the team?"
Jackson watched his father being ousted from the board with suppressed fury, a sly smirk creeping onto his face.
Aaron's sharp gaze swept over him. "Whom I employ is none of your concern. This meeting is adjourned."
Jackson toyed with a string of beads in his hand before abruptly pocketing it.
Don't get too cocky, Aaron. Everything you have will be mine eventually.
