Chapter 456 Afraid He'll Harass You
"Thank you for the compliment," Nora politely thanked him, embodying the role of a hacker.
"Since you're a beautiful woman, why don't you come up with a more appealing hacker name instead of this cute one?" the man asked, implying that her name was childish.
Nora glanced at Alex, who was eavesdropping nearby, smiled, and replied, "Because I'm a single mother. I have a very smart and adorable son, whose nickname is Alex. I love him very much, so I chose this name based on his nickname."
Hearing Nora's praise and confession, Alex felt happy and a bit shy.
He pondered to himself, 'Mommy is really good at complimenting people. And I love Mommy so much!'
"Are you a single mother? You don't look like one. Are you trying to deceive me?" the man expressed surprise once again.
"Why would I deceive you?" Nora asked.
The man chuckled softly, and remarked, "True. I really want to meet the clever and adorable Alex you praised."
Why did he want to meet him?
Alex paused, his face turning serious.
He thought, 'Does he have other motives? Is he trying to take advantage of Mommy because he sees how beautiful she is?'
Alex furrowed his brows. After thinking for a moment, he quietly ran to the door and intentionally called out, "Mommy, Daddy said we can have dinner now."
Nora was surprised and glanced at Alex. Seeing him wink at her, gesturing and mouthing that it was okay to end the conversation.
Nora understood and turned to the screen, saying, "All right then, that's it. I have to go have dinner now."
The man replied, "Okay, we'll be in touch later."
"Goodbye," Nora said and hung up.
She looked at Alex, who had run up to her, and smiled. "So, how did it go? Did I spill any secrets?" she asked.
"No," Alex replied.
Noticing that Alex seemed unhappy, Nora pinched his face and asked, "Then why do you look unhappy?"
Alex furrowed his brow and said, "I regret it."
"What do you regret?" Nora asked.
"I regret letting you impersonate me," Alex said.
Nora was surprised and asked, "Why?"
"I feel like he's interested in you, and I'm afraid he'll bother you," Alex explained.
Nora found it funny. "I'm not you. From now on, it'll be you who talks to him. How could he bother me?" she asked.
No wonder Alex had suddenly mentioned his dad earlier. It turned out he was worried about the other person having any thoughts about her.
Nora thought he was too sensitive.
Alex hesitated to speak.
Nora revealed her face, and the hacker was not an ordinary person. As long as he had her photo, he could quickly find her information.
Alex was afraid the other person would see how beautiful Nora was and pursue her in real life.
"All right. Don't be unhappy anymore. Let's go downstairs and have dinner," Nora said, rubbing his head and holding his hand.
Alex didn't say anything more, thinking that next time, he must silently warn the other person.
He didn't want his mistake to disturb Aaron and Nora's harmonious life.
Nora went downstairs with Alex and had dinner with Jacob and Billy.
After finishing the meal, she let the children play on their own and went to study her medicine.
Night fell. After the children fell asleep, Nora returned to her bedroom.
Looking at the big bed, she smiled and happily jumped onto it.
Thinking that she could finally sleep through the night today, she rolled around on the bed.
After a while, Nora lay back on the bed, looking at the ceiling above, unable to hold back her laughter.
If Aaron knew how happy she was, he would definitely say she had no conscience.
Nora moved her body, grabbed the pillow that Aaron usually used, and hugged it, taking a deep sniff, feeling strangely nostalgic.
People are truly contradictory.
When Nora was with Aaron every day, she felt bored.
But when she couldn't see him, she missed him.
She was beyond help.
Nora slapped her forehead and picked up her phone to check the time.
It was already past 9.00 p.m., and Aaron had yet to send her a single message.
She thought that he must be dealing with some tricky business matters.
Nora sat up, looking serious. She sent Aaron a message.
Nora: [Are you still busy? Take care of yourself. Stay safe.]
Aaron still hadn't replied, so Nora put her phone aside and went to the bathroom to shower.
After she finished washing and drying her hair, Aaron still had yet to reply to her message. Nora lifted the covers and sat on the bed, flipping through a medical book, her mind wandering.
At that moment, she received a text message. Nora was thrilled and quickly picked up her phone to read it. She thought it was a message from Aaron, but it wasn't. She felt a bit disappointed.
She thought Aaron must still be busy; otherwise, he wouldn't have ignored her. Nora stared blankly at the message on her phone for a while before regaining her spirit.
The message was from Evella. Nora opened it and found that Evella had sent her a screenshot. It was a conversation between Howard and Evella. Nora glanced at it and laughed. They were exchanging questions and answers.
Howard: [What are you doing?]
Evella: [Nothing.]
Howard: [What does 'nothing' mean?]
Evella: [Nothing means nothing!]
Were they competing in tongue twisters?
Evella: [Nora, do you think Howard is dumb?]
Nora held back her laughter and replied,
Nora: [I don't think so. I only see Howard's sincerity in wanting to chat with you.]
Evella sent a “smirk” emoji.
Evella: [You know how to end the conversation, right? Just chat with Howard.]
She amused Nora and quickly typed.
Nora: [Evella, you should think this way. Howard must not chat with girls often, so he seems dumb. This means he won't flirt with girls casually. It's a good thing for you to be with him!]
Evella: [No thanks. Whoever wants him can be with him. I will be very grateful to her!]
Nora: [Come on, darling, give him a chance.]
Evella: [Nora, don't call me darling, I'm not Mr. Gordon! ]
Nora: [Aaron isn't my darling, you are.]
Evella: [Do you dare to say that I'm your only darling?]
Nora:[Of course…]
Evella: [What does ellipsis mean?]
Nora: [It means what you guessed.]
Nora leaned against the headboard and chatted leisurely with Evella.
At that moment, she suddenly received a call. It was Aaron.
Nora was excited and quickly answered the call, saying, "Hello?"
"Are you asleep?" Aaron's gentle voice came through the phone.
"Not yet," Nora's voice also unconsciously softened.
"Were you waiting for my call?" Aaron asked.
Nora wanted to say no, but in the end, she said, "Yes."
She could hear the tiredness in Aaron's voice and tried to cheer him up.
