Chapter 332 An Audio Message
"Mom, I won't be a burden at home, I'll just get married!" Suzy, in tears, compromised. Her gaze swept past Nora and Aaron, filled with resentment, before she ran upstairs crying.
From now on, she would no longer have feelings for Aaron! She silently declared to herself. Since, they were determined to have her marry Jackson, she in turn would help Jackson snatch the position of power from the Gordon family and make him regret it.
And as for Nora, she better be prepared for what’s to come! Nora wouldn't be left unscathed! Suzy vowed to herself.
Downstairs, Emma watched Suzy run upstairs, her expression incredibly sour. "Are you all satisfied now?" she blamed.
Ebenezer glanced at her and said sternly, "Satisfied with what? Is this outcome caused by someone else? If she were virtuous, she would be blessed, but what about her? She makes mistakes and doesn't seek to correct them, instead blaming everyone and everything. She's like this because you spoiled her!"
Emma was already full of resentment, and at these words, her face filled with even more grievance. She said, "Yes! I spoiled her! She and Kenneth Howard are both children I raised with great effort. So, what if I choose to spoil them!"
After a pause, she turned to Howard, "Howard, you don't need to worry about the arranged marriage. With Mom spoiling you, you don't have to marry that Evella Remington if you don't want to."
"Last time I met with Mrs. Romero, I found out that her younger daughter is returning to the country after graduating abroad this year. You've seen that girl when you were little, and she's quite beautiful. Meet with her first; if there's a good feeling, then you can get engaged!" Emma added.
Ebenezer’s brow furrowed in frustration at her words, "You..." He wanted his son to marry into the Remington family, but she insisted on opposing him!
"You what? If you're so capable, have your son sever ties with the Hamilton family!" Emma challenged him.
Ebenezer's face was steely, and the conflict between the two was about to erupt.
Howard had a headache and quickly interjected, "Dad, Mom, I'm still young. I don't want to be tied down by marriage so soon. Let's deal with Suzy's wedding first, and then we can consider my situation, okay? I have to catch a flight at ten-thirty this morning; I need to leave right away."
Emma said, "I'll have Miss Romero meet you in Houston. You two can talk there."
Howard rubbed his forehead, "Mom, really, it's not necessary. I'm swamped with work and have no time for romance. Dad, brother, sister-in-law, Aaron, I have to go." With that, he grabbed his luggage, which was prepared earlier in the morning, and quickly left the house.
Seeing that matters were settled, Aaron didn't wish to stay any longer either. "Uncle, Nora and I will take our leave now," he said.
When Ebenezer looked at him and Nora, his expression softened slightly, "All right."
Nora and Sandy shared a laugh. "See you at the lab later, Sandy," Nora said.
"Sure," Sandy responded.
Aaron wrapped an arm around Nora as they left the Hamilton family home. Nora got into the car, gazing at the bright sunshine outside, her mood lifted.
"Mr. Gordon, Dr. Smith, where to now?" Frederic asked.
"Let's drop Dr. Smith off at the lab," Aaron decided.
"Okay." Frederic started the car and drove toward the lab.
While riding, Nora pulled out her phone to check the news online.
Suzy was trending heavily online.
The fact that she had spent the night with Jackson and was caught by journalists had tarnished her previously innocent public persona, leading to a massive fan backlash.
At the same time, fans of Sunny seized the opportunity to criticize her harshly. They accused Suzy of unscrupulously attempting to snatch Sunny's endorsements and labeled her as a deceitful person.
There were also leaks from fans about Suzy acting like a diva on set, behaving in an entitled manner.
The crowd feasted on the drama, with verbal attacks against Suzy everywhere.
But the most explosive leak was an audio recording.
"These fans are idiots. With just a little guidance, they become my blades. They'll do whatever I tell them..." Suzy's disdainful, arrogant voice was unmistakable.
The Suzy fans expressed their shock in the comment section, flooding it with their posts.
[Seriously? When Suzy needs her fans, she's all 'my dears, I love you all', but behind their backs, she's this arrogant and rude?]
[I must be blind. How could I have idolized such a fake person?]
[This woman is despicable! I'm done with her for life!]
Suzy's original die-hard fans were dropping like flies, with some even revealing more negative stories about their once-admired idol. The public outcry was overwhelming, nearly crashing the servers.
Nora looked at the trending topics, her smile lingering. The success of a popular star really is truly dependent on the fans, she thought.
She was curious—who had leaked the audio clip? Was it a disgruntled fan or someone with a grudge against Suzy?
Whomever it was seemed to have timed their strike perfectly as if they had been waiting for just this moment.
Ding, her phone pinged with a new message, from Becky.
Becky: [Nora, have you seen the news about Suzy?]
Nora raised an eyebrow, a bit surprised that Becky would reach out to her.
Nora: [I'm looking at it right now.]
Becky: [Looks like fate finally caught up with Suzy; she took a fall!].
Nora: [Indeed, her fans are really something; they can dig up anything. Especially that person who leaked the audio, that was pretty impressive.]
Becky: [Who do you think did it?]
As Nora read the message, her eyes twinkled, and she typed a response.
Nora: [You don't think it was you, do you?]
Becky rarely contacted her, so the sudden message made Nora suspicious.
Becky confessed.
Becky: [Yeah, it was me! Suzy had driven me to madness, enough to commit murder; I couldn't just act like nothing happened.]
Just as Nora suspected, her eyebrow raised as she replied.
Nora: [So you've been collecting dirt on Suzy this whole time?]
Becky: [Yeah, it wasn't hard. Suzy never was likable, bribing her assistant was easy!]
Becky's message oozed with pride.
Nora smiled and sent a thumbs-up emoji.
Nora: [How's it going on set? Are you keeping up with the acting veterans? I'm waiting for you to take over Suzy's spot and become the next Best Actress!]
Becky snorted through her response.
Becky: [Just watch me, you’ll see!]
Same old feisty tone.
Nora chuckled and didn't reply.
Although they weren't related by blood, their relationship had warmed up recently.
Suddenly, Nora thought of Charles Manson; not bringing him to justice was a real pity!
"What's got you down all of a sudden?" Aaron asked, busy on the computer, glanced at Nora. She had been vibrant just moments ago, but her mood had swiftly dampened, prompting his curiosity.
"It's nothing, just thinking about Charles Manson," Nora said, looking out the window.
Aaron closed his laptop and pulled her in by the waist, "Don't worry, I haven't forgotten. I won't let Charles Manson get off scot-free."
He wouldn't let anyone who hurt his beloved woman get away with it!
Nora felt a warm comfort inside, resting her head in his chest, listening to the strong beat of his heart, and felt completely at peace.
