Chapter 234 Confusion
Quinn was a mess at this moment.
Her black dress was soaked and had become transparent, revealing the contours of her body underneath.
Nora frowned, thinking about finding some clothes to cover Quinn, when Baldwin, standing nearby, took off his jacket and draped it over Quinn.
'He's was quite considerate.' Nora thought with a blink of her eye and a mental quip.
Quinn wrapped herself in the jacket and looked up at Baldwin in a silent acknowledgment of his gesture.
Baldwin stood silent with a mask on his face, simply helping her with her jacket before stepping back.
Quinn untangled her hair that got stuck to the inside of her clothing and heard the woman across from her wailing loudly.
"Boris, this wench hit me so hard, it's killing me! Did you see that? And you still sleep with her, aren't you disgusted?" she cried.
The middle-aged man, Boris, frowned at her and was about to speak when Quinn raised her voice, "Watch your mouth! Do you think you haven't been taught a lesson yet?"
Ariana, feeling emboldened by her husband's presence, shouted, "Try hitting me again. See what happens!"
Boris quickly held onto her, his face showing irritation, "Enough already, can't you stop being jealous for once? I told you, there's nothing between her and me!"
Ariana pushed his hand away angrily, "You're still denying it? If you didn't sleep with her, why would you give a project worth a hundred million to her? Samantha and I saw you two spending the night at the clubhouse!"
Boris became furious at this accusation, "Nonsense! It's just because I didn't give the project to your brother-in-law that they're spreading rumors!"
"You're trying to turn the tables now?" Ariana continued, "Do you think I don't know how bad her reputation is? Without giving you something in exchange, would you give her such a big project?"
Boris was both angry and speechless, "How can I make it clear to you?"
Quinn tightened her coat and scoffed, "Yeah, with a wife like her holding you back, your career is likely going to struggle!"
Hearing this, Ariana was furious to the point of almost jumping with anger. "You! You dare create discord?"
"Am I not allowed to fight back?" Quinn retorted coldly.
"Quinn, everyone knows what kind of woman you are!" Ariana spat out venomously, her gaze poisonous.
The bystanders all looked at Quinn with interest, and men who recognized her watched her unabashedly, their gazes filled with lecherous desire.
Quinn's gaze was cold, but her smile became more radiant. "You're so flustered, what's it? Jealousy or envy?"
"Let me tell you, I would only choose men like him, young and fresh. You can have Boris," she sneered. Quinn suddenly pulled Baldwin, who was behind her, taking his arm and said warmly, "Let's go, darling."
Baldwin, who had been enjoying the drama, didn't expect to become part of the scene so suddnely. He felt like an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire.
"Quinn, let go," Baldwin said.
But Quinn only held onto his arm tighter, pressing herself against him, "I'll repay you for playing the good guy!"
Speechless, Baldwin replied, "I don't need it."
"But I do!" Quinn insisted.
Quinn flashed a flirtatious smile at him and then reached out with her delicate hand to his strong waist. Baldwin, ticklish as he was, felt his tense body relax the moment her hand touched him.
Consequently, he had no choice but to be half-dragged by her as they walked outside. Nora watched, utterly dumbfounded, and hurried after them without another thought.
When they got outside, Baldwin finally managed to shake off Quinn's hand. It honestly is tough to be a good guy these days, she thought.
Quinn looked at Baldwin, who was now masked in black; and said with a grin, "I recognize you. You're the hot celebrity, Baldwin, aren't you? I'll remember that." Beneath his mask, Baldwin's expression was far from pleased.
"Save it. You don't need to worry about me," he retorted. His gut told him that any involvement with Quinn was sure to bring him trouble!
Baldwin turned to Nora, who had followed them outside, and softened his voice, "Nora, did you come here to dine?"
"Yeah," Nora responded.
"Have you eaten yet?" Baldwin asked again.
"She hasn't," Quinn interjected. "We were about to go to my place for dinner. Would you like to join us?" Quinn linked arms with Nora and asked Baldwin in a flirtatious tone.
Even in her state of disarray, the allure of the charming woman was not diminished. On the contrary, her bedraggled appearance had a certain chaotic allure that made her seem tempting in a rebellious way.
"No, thanks. I have another dinner engagement," said Baldwin, frowning. How did Nora end up friends with this kind of woman? He worried she might be a bad influence!
"All right then, let's meet up another time," Quinn said without pressing the issue and turned to Nora affectionately, "Let's go, Nora."
Nora was utterly confused. How had plans for dinner suddenly shifted to Quinn's place? "Baldwin, we'll be leaving first," Nora said, waving goodbye to Baldwin as Quinn pulled her away.
Frederick hurried to catch up. "Quinn, where are you taking Nora?" he asked.
Quinn paused in her tracks and gave Frederick a once-over. "You're Ron's bodyguard, right? What, you're only looking after Nora now? Fine, you may drive us to my place." She knew Frederick well since she often mingled in the same social circles as Aaron, with him tagging along.
Frederick looked to Nora for guidance.
Nora smiled and said, "Frederick, would you mind?"
Since Nora had spoken, Frederick had no further objections. He drove the two women to Quinn's apartment.
Quinn lived in a luxury high-rise condo on the 26th floor. Upon entering, she handed Nora a pair of slippers. "Nora, feel free to look around. I'm going to take a shower and change into some clean clothes."
"Sure." Nora slipped into some slippers and casually perused the house.
The three-bedroom, two-living room layout was meticulously designed. The furnishings and decorations reflected the careful thought of a woman with refined taste. You could tell she was a woman of sophistication. On a table lay a family portrait. The mother's picture must have been added afterward. It was obvious that Quinn missed her family dearly. She must be a woman with a heavy heart.
As Nora thought of Quinn's life story, which Aaron had shared with her, a wave of compassion flickered in her eyes. Her stomach, not in the mood to be discreet, growled. Nora touched her belly and swallowed her saliva as she tried to suppress her hunger.
Quinn had invited her over for dinner, but what was she planning to prepar? Nora headed to the kitchen and opened the fridge to inspect the ingredients, only to find beverages and fruit. A bit perplexed, Nora wondered what Quinn had intended to serve.
She searched again and finally spotted some pasta and a few eggs. After a moment's consideration, she decided to whip up two bowls of pasta to stave off her hunger.
By the time Quinn had finished her shower, Nora had managed to finish preparing the pasta perfectly.
"That smells delicious! Nora, what have you cooked up?" Quinn asked, wearing a pink silk robe that accented her sexy, alluring figure. She was drying her damp hair, inhaling the aroma of the food.
