Chapter 267 You Can't Marry Aaron
"Samantha, what happened? Did you get hurt?"
Samantha clung to Nora's neck, her body shaking with sobs.
"Mommy," she whimpered, "the Professor Lee praised my singing and the TV station chose me for their next performance. He became envious, labeled me a wild child, and shoved me."
Nora gently stroked her daughter's hair, carefully setting her down on her feet. Her eyes darted to a Professor Lee standing awkwardly nearby.
The Professor Lee offered an apologetic smile, seemingly at a loss for words.
Indeed, the representatives from the TV station had been impressed by Samantha's talent. Her singing was captivating, her appearance photogenic, and she had been selected to perform on television. Yet, who could have predicted that this achievement would incite the wrath of a young boy?
The Professor Lee was caught in a dilemma. She didn't want to offend either child—one from a prosperous family, the other evidently backed by a wealthy patron. Showing favoritism would inevitably lead to alienation.
She was merely a minor character in this drama, unable to risk making enemies.
Nora's gaze hardened as she turned to the young boy, "Why would you insult and push someone? You owe Samantha an apology!"
Her expression was stern, her tone authoritative. Perhaps she had adopted some of Aaron's commanding demeanor after spending so much time in his company.
The little boy visibly recoiled under her icy stare.
Within moments, he was shouting defiantly, "You can't bully me! I'm going to fetch my grandma!"
Just then, Lily and Mary emerged from the crowd.
Hearing her grandson's distressed cry, Lily hastened to his side.
"My little treasure, I'm here. What's the matter?"
"Grandma, that mean lady is frightening me!"
Emboldened by his grandmother's presence, the boy pointed an accusing finger at Nora.
Upon this, Lily's gaze snapped to Nora, her eyes blazing with fury. "What are you doing, terrifying my grandson? What do you want?"
Her gaze was fierce, and upon spotting Samantha standing beside Nora, she let out a scornful laugh.
"So, it's you, the audacious divorcee? Do you think you can behave as you please since you've ensnared my nephew? You're nothing more than a lowly commoner, unfit even to serve as a maid, and yet you dare to dream of marrying into the Gordon family? My sister will never approve. You won't get to marry Aaron!"
Mary stood silently beside her, her gaze dark as she studied Nora.
Nora's eyes swept over the two women, and she understood—the woman spewing venom must be Mary's sister, Aaron's aunt.
Her words were as biting and malicious as her lineage suggested.
"Your audacity is laughable. Who do you think you are to meddle in my personal affairs? Whether anyone else approves or not is none of your concern. If I choose to marry, I could marry Aaron tomorrow!"
She was indifferent to the concept of marriage, but she refused to be belittled.
Her pride demanded she maintain her composure.
"You!"
Lily was incensed by Nora's audaLindwood Citynd was about to retort when Nora cut her off.
"No wonder your grandson behaves so arrogantly. It seems he has an unreasonable elder like you to spoil him. He pushed my daughter earlier, and I demanded an apology. What's wrong with that? He must apologize today!"
Lily's face turned a myriad of colors with rage, "Who are you to demand an apology from my grandson? What if he refuses? Are you going to strike him, is that it?"
Nora sneered coldly, her voice icy, "If no one else will teach him manners, I might just have to do it myself."
A flash of fury crossed Lily's face as the young boy beside her shouted, "Grandma, I didn't do anything wrong. Samantha's lying. She claims she has a Daddy when she doesn't. I was just teaching her to tell the truth."
Samantha, indignant, retorted, "I do have a Dad. I'm not lying."
Nora's heart sank slightly at her daughter's words, her lips tightening into a thin line.
Lily, a smirk playing on her lips, first directed her gaze at Samantha, then at Nora. "Oh really? You have a Dad?" she taunted, her voice dripping with mockery. "Then enlighten us, who is your Dad and why isn't he here with your Mom?"
Samantha, her small hands clutching at Nora's sleeve, looked up at her mother. "He's here. Mommy, where’s Dad?" she asked, her voice laced with desperation. She was eager to dispel the notion that she had lied.
Nora's brow furrowed subtly, her gaze unintentionally shifting towards Mary. The older woman met her glance with a stern expression, her eyes hard.
"Nora," Mary began, her voice a harsh whisper. "Don't tell me you're letting the child call Aaron 'Dad'?"
Nora opened her mouth to respond, but words seemed to elude her. She wanted to defend herself, to explain that she hadn’t instructed her child to call Aaron 'Dad.' Yet, she also hadn’t dissuaded her from doing so.
Nora's silence seemed to fuel Mary's anger. Her face reddened as she spat out her words. "Nora, I've never seen someone as shameless as you. Not satisfied with seducing my son, you’re now manipulating your child too?"
Her voice rose in pitch as she continued, "What's your game? Hoping your daughter will charm my son into picking up the pieces? Nora, don’t you think I could have your three kids expelled from daycare this instant?"
Nora's face hardened, her voice icy. "You have no right to do that."
"No right? Watch me!" Mary retorted, her fury palpable. She reached out, grabbing Samantha roughly. "Come on, I'm taking you to see your principal!"
Her grip was firm, causing Samantha to stumble. "Ouch! Mommy!" the little girl cried out.
Nora was caught off guard by Mary's sudden action. She watched, a mixture of anger and anxiety coursing through her, as her daughter was dragged away.
"Let her go, you're hurting her," she demanded, her voice laced with concern.
"Get out of my way! Shameless woman, I won't believe I can't get your three brats expelled!" Mary retorted, clutching Samantha tightly. With a forceful shove, she pushed Nora aside.
Nora, careful not to harm her daughter, didn't dare to pull back. When Mary pushed, she let go.
Just then, Aaron entered the room, Alex and Billy trailing behind him. Seeing Mary manhandling their mother and sister, Billy's face hardened. He charged at Mary, landing two solid punches.
"Ow!" Mary cried out, releasing Samantha as she recoiled from the pain.
Alex rushed forward, catching his sister just in time. Nora quickly squatted down, pulling Samantha into her arms.
"Samantha, are you okay?" she asked, her voice filled with concern.
"Mommy, my hand really hurts." Samantha's eyes welled up with tears.
Nora examined her daughter's hand, noting the red ring forming around her delicate wrist.
Billy, still seething, landed a few more punches and kicks on Mary. His taekwondo training was evident in the strength of his strikes.
Mary's face paled, and she crumpled to the ground. The sudden turn of events left everyone in the room stunned.
After a moment, Lily broke the silence. "Sis!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with concern.
Mary's face was ashen, her hand clutching her chest as she groaned in pain.
Lily turned to Aaron, her voice rising in panic. "Aaron, this is terrible! Your mom got beaten by this wild child, and you just stand there doing nothing?"
Aaron's expression darkened. "Watch your language, and stop calling them wild children," he warned, his voice cold.
Lily was taken aback by his intimidating presence. She found herself staring at him, momentarily speechless.
Nora had already called Billy over. Aaron surveyed the family of four, his brows furrowing even more. He approached Mary, helping her to her feet.
Mary was pale, her hand still clutching her chest. She pointed at Nora and her children, but no words came out. After a long pause, her eyelids fluttered, and she fainted.
