Chapter 812 He Was a Gentleman
Jane glanced at him teasingly and said, "Look at how nice that girl is to you. Aren't you tempted?"
Zephyr replied, "I don't deserve her."
Jane looked at Zephyr's slightly melancholic face and understood his meaning.
Zephyr had deep feelings for his first love, Sandy, so he didn't want to waste the time of Marlon.
Jane snorted lightly, "So you can only go for a tomboy like me?"
Zephyr glanced at her and laughed. "Don't keep calling yourself a tomboy. You clean up pretty well, too."
Jane squinted at him, thinking of that night at the Hilton.
"Dr. Wright, don't tell me you have feelings for me just because I kissed and touched you in a moment of urgency at the club that night?"
Zephyr's face showed a hint of discomfort when Jane suddenly brought up the incident.
He pretended to be calm. "Stop overthinking."
Jane, being a cop, had sharper instincts than most.
Seeing Zephyr's reddening ears, she raised an eyebrow and teased, "Dr. Wright, are you still a virgin?"
Because he was a virgin, he was so innocent.
But Zephyr's heart was with his first love, Sandy.
They actually didn't do anything intimate.
This showed that Zephyr was a gentleman.
Zephyr was even more embarrassed by Jane's blunt question.
He looked up and retorted, "What about you? Are you experienced?"
Jane glanced at him, took a piece of fish, and said slowly, "I'm a cop. I don't have time for relationships."
Zephyr deliberately teased, "It's not that you don't have time; it's that you're too rough, and no one dares to pursue you!"
Jane swallowed the fish and smiled.
"Exactly, so if you dare to pursue me, be careful. I might get upset one day and beat you up until you cry!"
Zephyr couldn't help but laugh. "If you dare to hit me, I'll go to your boss and report that you're abusing your power as a cop and committing domestic violence!"
Jane rolled her eyes at him, unwilling to respond, and continued eating.
The dishes they ordered were gradually brought to the table.
But it wasn't Marlon serving them anymore; it was another waiter from the restaurant.
Jane deliberately said, "Dr. Wright, look, Marlon is so hurt by you that she doesn't even want to serve you anymore."
Zephyr glanced at Marlon, who was taking orders at another table and laughed. "Isn't that thanks to you?"
Jane raised an eyebrow. "Should I go clarify our real relationship to her now?"
Zephyr laughed again and handed her some food. "Officer Jane, just eat."
Jane asked, "Is this a bribe?"
Zephyr replied, "Whatever you say."
As they ate and joked, a sudden exclamation came from not far away.
Zephyr instinctively looked up and saw a man at the table where Marlon was taking orders, grabbing her hand and arguing with her.
Alvin Weaver was about thirty, with a fat face and tattoos on his thick arms, looking quite intimidating.
The TV in the restaurant was loud, so Zephyr couldn't hear what Marlon and Alvin were saying.
But it was clear that Alvin had bad intentions.
At a table behind Zephyr, people started talking.
"This poor girl is in trouble today."
"Why? Do you know that man?"
"Yes, I know him. He's a thug. I've heard he has a backer, so even if he gets into trouble, he comes out of it unscathed."
"Really?"
"Yes, I heard that he almost assaulted a female student working part-time at a restaurant. She reported it, but in the end, he was fine. The student was instead accused of attempting to seduce him for financial gain and then falsely accusing him when her plan failed. She was detained for half a month."
Zephyr and Jane exchanged glances, their faces darkening.
They simultaneously put down their forks and walked towards Marlon.
At that table, Alvin's lecherous eyes were shamelessly scanning Marlon's chest.
"Pretty girl, you did this on purpose. You said the dishes I ordered aren't available, but why can they eat them? Are you looking down on me?"
Marlon was both scared and anxious. "Sir, please let go. The dishes you ordered are our signature dishes, and we're sold out today. You can see they're crossed off the menu."
Marlon struggled to free herself from Alvin's grip, but his hand grabbed her tightly.
Then Alvin suddenly pulled her onto his lap, holding her tightly.
"Sold out? Then what should I do? I came all this way to eat your signature dishes. It's not fair to leave me disappointed, right?"
Marlon let out another cry, her face turning pale with fear.
"Let go of me! What do you want?"
Alvin smiled, revealing a mouthful of yellow teeth.
"Pretty girl, how about you let me kiss you? Just one kiss and I'll forgive you. I'll still pay for the food!"
Alvin's hands started to roam over her as he leaned in to kiss her.
Marlon was so scared that she started crying, desperately trying to avoid him.
Alvin's companions were all laughing and jeering.
"Let her go!"
Zephyr strode to the table and shouted sternly.
"Zephyr!"
Marlon called out to him tearfully.
Zephyr gave her a reassuring look and said coldly to Alvin, "I'll say it one more time, let her go now!"
Of course, Alvin wouldn't let Marlon go. He looked Zephyr up and down, a hint of contempt in his eyes.
"Who do we have here? Isn't this the Wright family's illegitimate son? An illegitimate son trying to play hero? What, you got a thing for this woman too?"
Alvin recognized him.
Zephyr's face tightened, and a hint of doubt was in his eyes. Just as he was about to speak, Jane, who had followed him, suddenly grabbed Alvin's hand from Marlon's waist and twisted it hard.
Alvin cried out in pain and instinctively let go of Marlon.
Jane, with a cold expression, pulled Marlon behind her and kicked Alvin hard.
Alvin fell to the ground with his chair, grimacing in pain.
The smiles on his companions' faces froze.
Someone helped Alvin up while the others stood up, glaring at Jane.
"You bitch, how dare you hit our boss? You're asking for trouble!"
Jane's face was cold as she scanned them and said sternly, "What? Are you guys a gang? Daring to insult women in broad daylight? Looks like you don't want to live peacefully!"
