Chapter 720 Making His Presence
Nora hung up the phone and quickly received a photo from Alex.
In the photo, Jerry was tall and strong, with a fierce look in his eyes.
Jerry's hair was a dark brown, and his skin was wheat-colored.
Nora stared at the photo, wondering why Jerry wanted to get close to Joseph.
"Nora, it's time for dinner."
Evella opened the balcony door and called out to her.
Nora snapped out of it and put away her phone. For now, she didn't plan to tell Evella about this because Evella was an innocent girl. She was afraid that Evella couldn't handle the shock. If she accidentally slipped up in front of Joseph, it might alert him.
"Let's go."
They entered the dining room.
At that moment, Howard was serving soup to everyone.
"This is cream of mushroom soup. Evella likes corn, so I added some corn to the soup. Richard, Nora, please try it."
Howard served everyone a small bowl.
Joseph picked up the spoon and stirred the surface of the soup, smiling sarcastically.
"Dr. Hamilton, is it Evella who likes it, or does Miss Romero from the Romero family like it? What was Miss Romero's reaction after tasting the soup, and what feedback did she give you?"
Joseph's words were unsettling, making people uncomfortable.
Howard's expression wasn't great, and he was already regretting it.
He had really made a rash decision to let Rachel be a taster.
He didn't mean anything else. He just wanted to give a perfect dinner tonight!
If he had known that Evella would misunderstand, he would rather have messed up the whole thing than let Rachel taste it.
"Joseph, please be quiet," Richard spoke up and then took a sip of the soup.
"The soup tastes good."
Howard should have been happy to receive Richard's praise, but now he couldn't find any joy.
He looked at Evella, who was quietly sipping the soup, her face expressionless. He felt a bit guilty.
He didn't know what Evella was thinking, but she was definitely not happy.
Nora sipped the soup, feeling distracted, and had no interest in Howard and Rachel's affairs.
In the face of life and death, these love affairs were trivial.
Right now, Nora just wanted to figure out the relationship between Joseph and the man behind Jerry.
Richard said Joseph had changed since he returned.
Why did he change?
Could it be related to Jerry?
Could it be that Jerry did something to Joseph?
"Nora, try this dish. Evella taught me how to make it, and it should suit the people of Youston. Give it a try?"
Howard's voice came from beside her.
Nora came back to reality and raised her eyes to look at him.
She saw Howard wink at her.
Nora paused for a moment, understanding a bit.
Howard was getting anxious because she wasn't speaking up.
He probably wanted her to say a few good words for him.
Fine.
As a witness to their love, she had to make sure that things went on well between Howard and Evella.
Nora took a bite of the dish Howard served her and raised an eyebrow.
"It tastes good, Evella. Have you tried it?"
Evella smiled. "Yes, I have."
Nora asked, "Does it have a distinct Youston flavor?"
Evella nodded. "Yeah, it's a unique dish."
Nora swallowed the food in her mouth, glanced at Howard, and began to boost his presence.
"I've been with the Hamilton family for so long, and it's the first time I've seen him put so much effort into something unrelated to medicine. Howard, how's the burn on your hand?"
Howard glanced at his hand and smiled. "It's nothing, just a minor injury."
Nora said, "Howard, don't take it lightly. You're a doctor, and you should know what could happen if the wound gets infected. It could lead to redness, swelling, inflammation, or even tachycardia, shortness of breath, or abnormal blood pressure due to inflammation. You should rest these days and not be too busy on the operating table."
Nora's words were meant for Evella.
She needed Evella to remember the video Howard had sent her before, showing how he got burned while cooking.
Evella glanced at Howard, a hint of pity flashing in her eyes.
"Did you hear what Nora said? Take care and rest more during this time."
Howard smiled. "I got it."
Indeed, Nora was exceptional, making a difference as soon as she spoke.
Joseph looked deeply at Nora, mocking. "Dr. Hamilton is quite lucky to have a sister who is so articulate, and I am truly enviable."
Upon hearing Joseph's words, Howard didn't deny it. "I am indeed very lucky."
He served more food to Nora and Evella, smiling softly and gratefully at Nora.
Nora glanced at Joseph and moved her red lips.
"Joseph, you're actually quite lucky too."
Joseph looked at Nora. "Me?"
Nora nodded. "Yes, Richard said you're an orphan, but you've met Richard and Evella. One is your uncle, the other your sister. Although you're not related by blood, they are your closest family."
Nora was reminding Joseph that Evella was just his sister and that he shouldn't have any inappropriate thoughts about her.
Joseph naturally understood the implication in Nora's words, his smile stiffening slightly.
Nora then looked at Evella and asked, "Evella, you will always treat Joseph as your real brother, right?"
Evella nodded sincerely. "Yes, Joseph is my savior, and I will always treat him as my real brother."
Joseph remained silent, his hand holding the fork tightening, his expression unreadable.
Nora's words quickly reinforced the fact that he was just her brother to Evella.
Joseph glanced at Nora again and decided not to pursue the matter further.
After finishing her meal, Nora casually looked up and saw Howard smiling at her and discreetly giving her a thumbs-up.
Nora chuckled, and when she was almost done eating, she sent a message.
Nora: [You goof. You must talk to Evella tonight, and make sure she isn't upset about what you did.]
Upon hearing the message alert, Howard quickly typed a response.
Howard: [Nora, how should I talk to her?]
Nora was speechless and replied: [Figure it out yourself.]
Howard looked pitifully at her, and when Nora didn't respond, he thought for a moment, opened Facebook, and posted on his Moments.
"Made my girlfriend angry, how should I make her happy again? Collecting opinions."
If he couldn't figure it out, he would seek ideas from Facebook.
Across from him, Evella noticed Howard's distraction as he kept checking his phone and asked, "Howard, do you have surgery to do?"
"No," Howard replied.
"Is Miss Romero contacting you?" Evella blurted out, then looked embarrassed.
Evella admitted that she felt a bit uncomfortable about Howard having Rachel as the taster.
"How could that be? Look, I don't even know her Facebook. I was just chatting with Nora."
Howard quickly opened Facebook to show Evella.
