Chapter 717 Many Women Around Him
Howard saw her relaxed demeanor and felt anxious.
"Miss Romero, how about the taste of these dishes?"
Rachel tossed the wiped napkin aside. "If we use a hundred-mark system, I would give the dishes a passing grade."
Just a passing grade!
Howard's heart sank a bit, his brows furrowed. "So, can you tell me what's lacking in the dishes?"
Rachel looked at him and smiled. "Dr. Hamilton, do you know how picky I am when it comes to food? The restaurants that can earn high marks from me are few and far between, so most places just get a passing grade from me."
So that was the reason.
Howard stared at Rachel. "So you mean the dishes I made are actually not bad?"
Rachel nodded. "They are indeed quite good. I didn't expect Doctor Hamilton to be skilled not only in medicine but also in cooking. How many days have you been learning to cook?"
Howard instinctively straightened his back, a bit proud. "Strictly speaking, I've only been learning for two or three days."
Rachel smiled and gave him a thumbs-up. "Unbelievable."
"Thank you."
Howard felt proud inside, but he remained modest outwardly.
He glanced at the dishes on the table to confirm.
"Miss Romero, are these dishes really good, or are you just flattering me?"
Rachel chuckled. "If you don't believe me, you taste them."
Howard had actually tasted the dishes before they were served.
But as a novice, he always felt unsure of himself.
Moreover, with repeated tastings, his taste would become numb.
Now that Howard had finished cooking, he could truly savor the taste of his dishes.
So he called the waiter over and asked for a new set of utensils.
The waiter quickly brought the utensils.
Rachel took a bowl first and served Howard some soup.
"Thank you."
Howard thanked her and started sipping the soup.
Rachel rested her chin on her hand, watching Howard with interest, a somewhat regretful look on her face.
"Dr. Hamilton, you are truly a talented man. You've grasped the essence of cooking in just two or three days. It's a pity that a high-quality man like you are already taken."
Howard now considered her as a friend, so he just took her teasing in stride.
After drinking a few sips of soup, Howard felt that his skills were indeed not bad.
"Don't you have any valuable advice for me?"
Seeing a bit of soup on Howard's lips, Rachel pulled out a few napkins and handed them to him.
"Of course, after all, it's just a passing grade."
"Please."
Howard wiped his mouth and listened attentively.
"This dish is a bit sweet, and it could be done with a modest reduction of ketchup. This boasts a pleasant crunch, but it's slightly over-salted."
Rachel, an expert in food, commented on each dish on the table.
Howard listened attentively and kept in his mind.
After Rachel finished her comments, he sincerely thanked her. "Thank you for your guidance. I'll remember that."
Rachel smiled. "You're welcome. After all, I got a free lunch today. You won't charge me, right?"
"Of course," Howard quickly replied.
Rachel nodded. "I should be paid, considering I played the role of a food critic for free today."
Howard knew she was joking. "Should I pay with PayPal?"
Rachel burst into laughter, and both of them laughed heartily.
Unnoticed by them, Joseph emerged from the private room and started recording a video with his phone.
With the guidance and praise from Rachel, the expert food critic, Howard gained great confidence in his cooking skills.
So when he arrived at Richard's apartment the next evening, he was particularly confident.
As the love guru for Howard and Evella, Nora was naturally on the guest list when Richard decided to sample Howard's culinary skills.
Nora gladly accepted the invitation for a free meal.
Although Nora didn't have much confidence in Howard's cooking skills, at least he was sincere. Even if his dishes weren't delicious, Evella wouldn't mind.
In the apartment, Evella pulled Howard aside and asked quietly, "Do you need help?"
She had planned to practice cooking with Howard again last night, but Maisie suddenly felt unwell, so she stayed by Maisie's side and didn't go to the Whispering Willow Restaurant.
Today, Howard had surgeries all day and didn't have time to practice.
Evella was genuinely worried for him.
"Evella, don't you trust me?" Howard remained calm.
"No, I just want to help you," Evella spoke softly, afraid of hurting his pride.
Howard reached out and patted her head. "You don't need to help. Go talk to Richard and Maisie."
With Howard's words, Evella nodded.
"Okay, then I'll just wait for you meal."
"Alright."
Watching Howard and Evella being affectionate, Joseph on the sofa pushed his glasses, a glint in his eyes.
Nora sipped her tea, quietly observing Joseph.
Seeing Joseph's expression unchanged, she pondered silently.
A person who narrowly escaped death may undergo a significant change in character.
Perhaps they became more open-minded, but this openness should lead to greater generosity.
But this Joseph seemed to become more narrow-minded.
Howard and Evella should marry soon to dispel his unreasonable thoughts.
With that in mind, Nora took out her phone and scrolled through it.
Evella sat beside her, curious about Nora looking at the calendar on her phone, and asked, "Nora, what are you looking at?"
"I'm looking for some auspicious dates."
Evella blinked. "Why are you suddenly looking for auspicious dates? Is something good happening?"
"For Howard. He needs to pick a good date so that you two can get engaged," Nora explained.
Evella hadn't expected that Nora was looking for auspicious dates for this reason, and her cheeks flushed instantly.
"Nora, you're kidding. I'm still young and don't want to get married so early."
Nora glanced at Evella and chuckled, "I know. I'm not asking you to get married right away. You can get engaged first. That way, we can ensure no one else sweeps you off your feet."
Evella blushed again. "Let's change the subject."
Nora laughed, and Richard beside her also chuckled.
"Evella, don't be shy. Your marriage with Howard is just a matter of time. Dr. Smith, I'm waiting for your brother to come and propose,"Richard said.
"Alright,"Nora replied.
"I object," Joseph suddenly spoke up.
Everyone fell silent.
Richard furrowed his brows.
"Richard, Dr. Smith, Evella, take a look at this video first." Joseph took out his phone and played a video.
It was the video he recorded at the Whispering Willow Restaurant yesterday.
Nora and the others gathered around to watch the video, in which Howard and Rachel were sitting face to face.
Rachel served Howard soup and handed him napkins, and they seemed very intimate and friendly.
"Richard, you see, Dr. Hamilton has a lot of female friends. While he's discussing marriage with Evella, he's also being affectionate with another woman. Are you still confident in marrying Evella to him?"
