Chapter 599 Taking Advantage Again

Evella choked up, biting her lip as she said, "Even if an acquaintancewere to skip meals to watch the meteor shower with me, I would still feel sorry."

Howard looked at her steadily and said, "Evella, do you really not like me at all?"

Evella's gaze flickered; she lowered her eyes, unable to meet his gaze.

She replied, "I said I'm not ready to settle down so soon."

Howard faced her, holding her shoulders. "I also said, I'm not asking you to marry me right away. I'm asking, do you have even a tiny bit of liking for me?"

His brown eyes were deep, with a hint of anticipation.

Evella's heart raced as she thought about her conversations and interactions with Howard, and she bit her lip nervously.

She must have some feelings for Howard. But she didn't want to admit it.

She said, "I see you as a good buddy."

She saw him as a good buddy!

Howard was speechless, lifting Evella's chin and saying, "Evella, look at me and tell me, do you really see me only as a good buddy?"

Evella was forced to raise her eyes, reluctantly nodding.

Howard stared at her red lips and suddenly leaned in to kiss her.

Evella was stunned, her eyes widening in an instant.

Howard actually kissed her!

Howard released her after a gentle kiss and asked, "Tell me, how did you feel when I kissed you, disgusted or did your heart race?"

His brown eyes fixed on her, his voice slightly hoarse.

Evella's heart was racing.

Of course, it was the latter!

But what was Howard doing?

Evella pushed him away, saying, "Howard, you're taking advantage of me again!"

Howard wanted to say something, but then he saw Evella's eyes light up as she pointed upwards.

"Look, there's a meteor shower!" she said.

Howard followed her gaze and saw a streak of silver flash across the sky, tearing through the horizon.

It really was a meteor shower!

He smirked and said, "Aren't you going to make a wish?"

"Okay!" Evella quickly closed her eyes, clasping her hands to make a wish.

Howard glanced at her, also closing his eyes to make a wish.

Surrounded by silence, only the gentle breeze tousled their hair.

After making her wish, Evella opened her eyes and saw Howard also making a wish, asking curiously, "Did you make a wish, too?"

He said, "Yes."

"What did you wish for?" Evella asked involuntarily.

Howard's brown eyes fixed on her, saying, "Do you really want me to say it?"

His gaze was intense, making Evella feel uneasy.

Evella looked away, saying, "If you say it, it won't come true, so maybe it's better not to say it."

Fearing that Howard's wish might be about her, she decided not to hear it.

Howard chuckled, "I believe sincerity yields results."

He made his wish, hoping for his desires to come true tonight.

"The meteor shower is over, let's go." Evella tucked her wind-blown hair behind her ear and turned to leave.

But as she felt a weight on her arm, Howard suddenly pulled her into his arms.

"Evella, I'll ask you again, do you really want to break up with me?" he asked.

Evella's gaze flickered.

Howard saw her hesitation and suddenly clutched his stomach, a look of pain on his face.

Evella was startled, quickly supporting him.

"Howard, what's wrong? Is it a stomachache?" she asked.

"Yes, it hurts a lot." Howard frowned.

"Let's go down the mountain quickly; I'll take you to the hospital right away." Evella was on the verge of tears.

Howard caught the anxious look on her face.

Instead of moving, he said, "Evella, this is the first time I've confessed to a girl, the first time I've liked a girl, but it seems like the outcome isn't too good. I'll ask you one last time: Do you really want to break up with me? If you do, I won't bother you anymore; whatever happens to me, it has nothing to do with you."

Howard's bony hands held Evella's small hand tightly.

Evella could feel a thin layer of sweat in his palm.

He seemed to be sweating from the pain.

Of course, Evella didn't know that Howard's sweat wasn't from pain but from nervousness.

He was nervous because he was pretending to have a stomachache, afraid that he couldn't get what he wanted.

"Okay, okay, I won't break up." Evella was flustered.

She changed her mind!

Howard felt relieved and asked, "So, are you willing to be my girlfriend now?"

Evella bit her lip, saying, "Yes, but just pretend."

Howard shook his head and said, "No more pretending; this time, I want to be your real boyfriend."

"What?" she asked.

"Why not? Just now, you were so anxious; dare you say you don't have even a bit of liking for me?" Howard said.

A hint of a smile flashed in his eyes as he pulled Evella into his arms again.

He said, "I kissed you just now, and you didn't seem to mind."

Thinking of the kiss just now, Evella's ears felt hot.

She was about to say something when Howard once again held her chin.

He said, "Evella, I like you, let's date seriously."

Saying that, Howard's kiss descended once again before she could react, a light and tender kiss filled with a hint of tenderness.

Evella's heart pounded, involuntarily gripping Howard's clothes.

Howard's lips were slightly parted. Looking at Evella's widened eyes, he chuckled softly, "Close your eyes."

Evella instinctively obeyed, closing her eyes for a second.

Howard's eyes were full of amusement; he said, "Good girl."

Once again, a warm feeling was on her red lips, Evella's eyelashes trembling lightly as she responded awkwardly.

Howard said it was his first date, and it was her first date, too.

Finally, they blurred the line bwtween reality and pretense.

Suddenly, Evella realized that Howard had fooled her.

She was being fooled by him bit by bit from the moment she agreed to pretend to be his girlfriend.

That was how she was tricked into his hands.

The sudden ringtone of a phone interrupted the ambiguous moment.

Evella flinched, breathing softly and saying, "My phone is ringing."

Howard's throat moved slightly, and his eyes, which had been soft and affectionate, suddenly turned cold.

It absolutely couldn't be Richard calling.

He took Evella's phone.

As he saw the caller ID, the coldness in his eyes dissipated slightly.

It wasn't Richard calling; it was Maisie.

"Howard, give me the phone," Evella protested.

"It's your grandmother calling; let's listen together." Howard put the phone on speaker and handed it to her.

With no time to argue with him, she softened her tone and called out into the phone, "Grandma."

Maisie said, "Evella, why haven't you come back yet? Are you still at Rachel's birthday party?"

"Grandma, it's me, Howard. Evella isn't at the party anymore; she's with me watching the meteor shower on the mountaintop." Before Evella could speak, Howard leaned in.

There was a moment of silence on the line, then Maisie's voice became more stern.

"Howard, since you're dating our Evella, treat her well, don't bully her, or else I won't let you off!" Maisie said.

Howard smirked and said, "Don't worry, Grandma, I'll treat her well."

"Good, no sex before marriage," Maisie added.
