Chapter 880 My Reputation Was at Stake
Outside, Miguel gave Rafael a thumbs up.
"You're the best, Rafael. Without lifting a finger, you've made Mateo a public enemy. Let's see how he bounces back from this."
Rafael's lips curled into a cold smile. 'Does Mateo really think he can compete with me? He's too naive!'
At Hugo's villa, Nora, knowing she was the subject of a scandal, didn't bother checking the news.
She didn't need to look to know it would be full of insults.
Nora didn't want to upset herself further.
Soon, Mateo called.
Seeing Mateo's call, Nora couldn't help but feel angry.
Her previously peaceful life had been disrupted by Mateo's sudden appearance.
It was really frustrating.
But since it had already happened, getting angry wouldn't help.
Taking a deep breath, Nora answered the call.
"Prince Mateo, please stop saying or texting things that can be easily misunderstood. I don't want to be scolded while walking down the streets of Hchilia."
Mateo was silent for a moment before saying, "I'm sorry, Nora. It's my fault for dragging you into this."
Faced with the suddenly serious Mateo, Nora was a bit taken aback and felt a little uneasy.
Thinking about it, Mateo was also a victim.
After all, the whole thing was aimed at him.
With that in mind, Nora softened her tone. "Is it your brother framing you again?"
Mateo smiled and replied, "You don't even need to ask."
Nora said, "So what now? Are you just going to let their plan succeed?"
Mateo replied, "Don't worry, I've already thought of a solution."
Nora's eyes lit up. "What solution?"
Mateo said, "My father will recognize you as his goddaughter. From now on, you'll be my sister."
Hearing this, Nora's eyes widened.
"King Tomas wants to recognize me as his goddaughter?"
Oh my God!
Did that mean she would become a princess of Hchilia?
Even if not by blood, she would still be a princess!
"Yes, my father has already agreed. He would summon you to the Royal palace soon," Mateo said.
After a brief moment of shock, Nora frowned slightly.
She knew the Royal family intended to use this method to dispel the rumors about her and Mateo.
Although becoming a royal princess was a highly honorable thing.
She didn't want it!
She really didn't want to be associated with the royal family.
"Prince Mateo, is there another way?"
Mateo laughed. "Nora, aren't you happy to become my sister? Hmm, we really are on the same wavelength."
Here he went again.
Nora couldn't help but roll her eyes. "Prince Mateo, it seems this lesson wasn't enough. You're joking again?"
Mateo chuckled. "Nora, let me be willful one more time. Once you become my sister, I won't have the chance to be willful anymore."
Although Mateo was laughing, Nora inexplicably heard a hint of bitterness.
Nora blinked. Ever since giving birth to Alex, Billy, and Samantha, her suitors had increased significantly.
Every man she met would be captivated by her.
She must have been influenced by Aaron!
"Alright, since you've thought of a solution, let's go with your plan."
Right now, Nora couldn't think of any other way to clear her name.
"Nora, you move on so quickly. I just started to feel sad."
Nora was speechless.
Mateo was really both infuriating and amusing.
Nora didn't waste any more words with Mateo and hung up.
As soon as she did, Aaron's call came in.
"Honey, who were you just talking to?" Aaron's tone was urgent; he must have been trying to reach her.
Nora knew Frederick and Noe must have reported the situation to him, so she didn't hide it.
"It was Prince Mateo."
"He still dares to call you? If he weren't a prince, I'd kill him!"
Aaron's tone was cold and full of murderous intent.
Nora laughed. "Alright, don't be angry. I have some good news for you."
Aaron asked, "What good news?"
Nora said, "Prince Mateo just called to say that King Tomas plans to recognize me as his goddaughter."
Aaron was stunned. "King Tomas wants to recognize you as his goddaughter? They plan to use this method to dispel the rumors?"
"Yes."
Aaron was silent for a moment. "Smart move. I'm already on my way to the airport. If King Tomas summons you, tell them to wait. I'll go to the Royal palace with you."
Nora rubbed her forehead. "No need, it's just a trivial matter. Do you really need to come to Hchilia?"
"My reputation is at stake, and you call it a trivial matter?" Aaron's tone was full of grievance.
Nora blinked. "That's just your imagination. There's nothing wrong with your reputation."
Aaron added, "Honey, don't joke with me. I'm really angry right now."
Nora laughed. "Alright, don't be angry. Isn't this a blessing in disguise?"
"A blessing in disguise?"
Nora's eyes sparkled. "Think about it. I'm about to become a princess, which makes you a prince. What an honor!"
Aaron snorted, "Do I care?"
Nora's eyes curved with a smile. "I care!"
Aaron laughed this time.
Aaron's laughter meant his anger had subsided a bit.
Nora breathed a sigh of relief and coaxed Aaron a bit more until his anger was completely gone.
Soon, she was summoned by Tomas.
Nora remembered Aaron's words and asked them to wait.
She would go to the Royal palace with Aaron once he arrived.
The leader of the royal delegation left two attendants behind and went back to report.
Not long after, Nora received a message from Mateo.
Mateo: [Nora, my father is going to announce you are his goddaughter. Why are you bringing Mr. Gordon?]
Nora: [He's my husband. I'm scared to go to the Royal palace alone. Can't he accompany me?]
Mateo: [Are you scared, or is he worried about you going alone?]
Nora: [Both.]
Mateo: [You two are just showing off your love.]
Nora didn't reply, treating Mateo's words as nonsense.
Three hours later, Aaron arrived in Hchilia on a private jet, and the two of them went to the royal palace.
In the grand and opulent hall, Tomas and Scarlett sat in the main seats, receiving Aaron and Nora.
Standing nearby were Rafael, Miguel, Mateo, and a translator.
"King Tomas, Queen Scarlett."
Aaron and Nora greeted them.
"Mr. Gordon, you're here too. Please, have a seat."
Tomas warmly invited them to sit, with the translator providing timely translations.
"Thank you."
Aaron didn't stand on ceremony and sat down with Nora.
"I'm sorry about the news. It must have caused you a lot of trouble," Tomas said.
"Indeed. I will find out who is behind the slander against my wife."
Aaron didn't mince words with Tomas, his demeanor cold and icy.
